Well, well, well. Ben Elton in use popular songs people love and write a story around it shocker! I had reservations about this from the beginning, but decided to give it a fair shot, afterall the ticket was free. Good thing really. Okay let's start with the good (and the only reasons I have for giving it 2 stars instead of one). The music from the orchestra is cracking, they really capture the instrumental essence of Queen. The Killer Queen and Scaramouch (cringe) have really good voices.... (read more)

If only I had read these reviews before going to see it. I've never felt so bored during a show... I was taking more notice of the theatre decor than what was going on on stage. The story line was ridiculous. The acting terrible. The jokes... what jokes? Rather than write a story which included the music (Take Mama Mia... which id recommend seeing than this!) it was as if the songs were in place and some stupid storyline written to shoe horn in as many songs as possible... and nothing made... Terrible show, if you can call it that! My husband had to ask me what it was all about after the first half! Cheesy acting, rubbish jokes (jokes, no I don't think so), it was my birthday treat, really disappointing. We were seated behind two really tall people and struggled to see the stage and actors, however, they must have felt the same as they left after the first half, leaving us to be able to see the entire show.......we wished they would have come back, it was so appalling! I must admit I wasn't expecting to enjoy this show booked by my wife but as with all things you have to go into it with an open mind . After a shaky first 5 minutes the show began to take shape and must admit after the first few songs I was hooked , yes it's very cheesy at times but unless you have booked for one of the classics what do you expect . There were some exceptional performances especially from the leading couple and the guy playing Britney Spears ( don't ask ) . However the real... (read more)

Really good entertainment. Musical pantomime comedy for all. No not a tribute show and thank goodness for that. But the music , singing and above all the stage spectacle is first class and everyone enjoyed it old and young. Also theatre itself roomy, cool and seats comfortable and large. It is hard to dislike this musical in any way. It's visually stunning, and creates a a beautiful musical experience. Although, as other reviews state, the lyrics and music have been slightly changed, how else on earth do you think the writers (Queen and Ben Elton) would have been able to fit 25+ songs from one artist into a musical. I know how the original production was like and see little difference except location related or extra humorous points. If you want to watch some of the... (read more)

On a par with an am dram performance in the village hall. The story line was a disgrace. The jokes were archaic. The acting, unnecessary accents and singing were all diabolical. Having read the negative reviews on this site I can see what they mean. The story line is absolute dross, the acting is wooden and the music and lyrics have been mucked around with but I think that those who criticise it have missed the point. I gave it 1 star because that's the minimum I could give. The only reason why I stayed in, not walking out after half an hour is because I thought my girlfriend was having a better time but afterwards, she told me she didn't enjoyed it too much either. Actors couldn't sing, no emotional connection what so ever and whatever that was left got crushed by the loudness of the music, which in total killed every note, every song as well. Instead, the setting is iPlanet. The time is the future, or now.. it's not very clear. The lead male's name is Gallileo Figaro and the lead female Scaramouche. How the hell has this been going for 10 years? I was speechless really. As others have said, Glee does Queen sums the music side up. However, it's not rocket science - people seeing this dross will generally like Queens music, which is Rock music (albeit soft / pop rock). Sept. '11. A very full Dominion theatre. This is a slightly sanitised version of Queens hits, it is a play with music, and a little comedy. You will not see a band on the stage but a group of dancers who all sing, the lead roles being taken by several singers, they all play their part well and appear to enjoy what they do. There is very little attempt to interact with the audience until the final 15 mins of the show, when hand clapping is encouraged. It was apparent that some in the... (read more)

This is a great musical for kids and carefree adults. As someone said earlier it is basically a remake of "Glee" or "Grease" but using the music of Queen. Quite camp.
But it is definitely not made for real "Queen" fans, or indeed any "rock music" type of people, who would regard this musical as an insult or at very least a sissy adaptation (who wants to see Justin Bieber or Britney Spears types of people, when they were hoping for Ozzie Osborne or Iggy Pop)

The storyline was nothing like I expected. It's futuristic and reminiscent of Rush's '2112' where rock music is banned. I wonder if that's where Ben Elton got the inspiration for it?
