“Savings Account Maturity”

Written on: 10/07/2014

It has taken me many weeks and much time to, finally, get Halifax to pay the maturing proceeds of my fixed term savings a/c into my current a/c at another bank. I tried writing, phoning, e-mailing and on-line updating my maturity instructions but, at every turn, I was thwarted by Halifax's inability to deal with that mode of communication and/or do so at that time and/or their requirement for "just another security step that can only be done by some other form of communication". My belief is… Read Full Review

“Online Banking”

Written on: 30/04/2014 by 38Briggs (1 review written)

I tried to log onto my online banking account and it would not work after trying to re set my password nothing would work. I called their call centre who tried to help me do it step by step and that still did not work and the woman on the phone hung up. I called back and was told I would receive something in the post that will help me re set my password but I will have to wait 5 days, or I could go into my local branch. I can't go to the branch as I have to work and 5 days is too long to wait… Read Full Review

“Why am I still with them!!”

Written on: 12/04/2014 by McNeil140 (1 review written)

I had an account with Halifax year ago and had nothing but problems. Never experience anything like what I experience with them in my life. So I closed my account and moved to another bank. I still have my mortgage with them so I decide I want to get online to see it, tried to set it up whilst I was in work and got told to phone a certain number to authenticate who I was as I was unable to take the automated call at home. Oh no they can't do it because it's a mortgage account, They can't… Read Full Review

“Do they really care?”

Written on: 17/02/2014

I have had a Halifax account for about 20 years and some time recently I started using Halifax online. Its a nightmare! Twice I have changed my registered mobile phone number. I should take a couple of days to be updated, The first time it took months. Okay Halifax agreed that I could send the money abroad by telephone banking but thats not the point- I want to use internet banking. I am now stuck because their banking system does not recognise the IBAN number of my account in Italy. Why not?… Read Full Review

“Useless, dysfunctional and thoughtless”

Written on: 27/10/2013 by barrytoogood (2 reviews written)

What on earth is the point of an "online" service that tells you to call on 0845 number to do anything except look at your account? I simply wanted to tell Halifax tat I'd be using my credit card abroad but can't do that online. Call centre has a huge string of time-wasting options just to get to a queue of "at least ten minutes". I hope someone there listened to my response before I rang off. Lost my business then… Read Full Review

“Halifax Abroad+”

Written on: 05/10/2013

Recently applied for a Halifax credit card as Which stated it was the best to use abroad. First and second times I tried to use in Italy in September 2013 both transactions rejected. Tried to sign in on line whilst in Italy and my username was rejected; a username I had previously used for 3 years. Finally, on my return to the UK established my user name had been changed by Halifax to numbers not letters. Would have appreciated the courtesy of a notification. A telephone call to them to… Read Full Review

“Halifax Online Banking losing the plot”

Written on: 03/07/2013

Logged a complaint so that it will go on Ombudsman statistic. I locked myself out of my account, not even sure whether it's the password or the memorable word. Perfect. Found the reset password link. Went through numerous internet banking hoops only asked to call with a reference number. The phone security repeats the whole thing again but I couldn't reset it over the phone because I don't have a phone banking security code. I do not use phone banking but just internet banking I need to get… Read Full Review

“Beaurocracy at its worst”

Written on: 26/06/2013

Following death of brother went to pay in to our joint account £150 from his closing energy and tv licence accounts. Took death certificate, original will and id proving I am his executor. Cheques payable to "executor of Mr (followed by deceased's name)". Told I would need to open an account to receive this amount with the exact title as shown on cheque and make an appointment to do this as noone available then. I expressed disbelief as this account would simply receive funds and then be… Read Full Review

Best thing to do is log a complain so that it will go on Ombudsman statistic. I just had the same issue. The process is poorly designed.

I couldn't reset it over the phone because I don't have a phone banking password where I only bank online (Get the message?)

I can't transfer money out without keying in the 4 digit security code via my phone anyway so a message to whoever that design this process. Absolutely poor zealots.

“Most dreadful beaurocracy ever!”

Written on: 27/05/2013

Living in Germany in my 3rd address. Tried to change address, not able to online as the forms only take UK addresses. Sent a letter, which was 'lost'. Sent a second, received a reply to my new address stating that this address change could not be done without a copy (verified by a solicitor)of my passport and a recent utility bill (translated). Apparently I need a telephone banking codeword?? It is being sent in the post to my old address (good security eh?) Tried to get online a few… Read Full Review

“Unreliable”

Written on: 06/05/2013 by ---RH--- (1 review written)

Incredibly slow to update balances (a week later, still waiting for mortgage balance to update after payments). More often that not it's unavailable. ('Come back later') Renaming accounts doesn't work properly. When they did a recent upgrade, they simply took accounts offline and asked users to 'come back in a few weeks'. What?!… Read Full Review

“A lot of security but I like that in my bank”

Written on: 16/04/2013

Pros- You can do more with your account online compared to many other banks They call you whenever a new payment is set up online regardless of amount simple to use and clear language additional accounts opened online quickly (no need for full applications) Very secure Cons- Username is just random numbers which I write down (not my passwords) but then other banks also do this. Halifax will give you a card to carry with you so you can write your username (only) down free of charge To be… Read Full Review

You also need to set up a phone based security code just in case your account is locked. The online reset function will just finish you off with a reference number and phone number to call. That code will be needed then to verify your identity and forget the voice message reminder about getting your debit card, it's a fraudulent belief.

If you havent set the code up, then you have to wait 5 days, otherwise go to branch with 2 IDs - passport and driving licence. What a safe bank! Just staying for the £5/month.

“Unable to open cash ISA online”

Written on: 14/03/2013

Tried to open a Halifax cash ISA online today but having entered all my details it said there was a problem and my account could not be opened. Rang the Halifax website helpline, female customer assistant could not have cared less. Said yes there was a technical problem with opening new Halifax accounts online, no idea when it would be resolved, advised me to go to a branch or telephone service. I asked why there was nothing on the website to alert customers to the fact there was a technical… Read Full Review

“Dreadful”

I have three online banking accounts with different providers and this is by far the least easy to use, every time I end up getting locked out, as there is so much information to remember and as youre not supposed to write it down, I dont! Even the username is a load of numbers not something easy to remember. I dread having to access my Halifax online… Read Full Review

“Halifax online banking payment agony”

Written on: 24/02/2013

Registering a telephone number so Halifax can phone you and get your confirmation code... takes days. I telephoned Halifax because they couldn't seem to telephone me, went through all the security questions correctly except: "what was the date you opened your Halifax account?" Erm, 'years ago!', how the hell would I remember that.... No online payment made... Hate this outfit… Read Full Review

“Great Bank”

Was with The Halifax when I was younger and have recently joined them again but now with them being owned by Lloyds Banking Group. Had a few problems on opening the account On-line as I wanted to claim the Reward they had at the time of opening. I was given a PDF which I saved. The next day I rang Halifax up and then had nothing with my name on it on there systems and asked to wait till Wednesday. Phoned Wednesday still nothing with my name on it. So I went into local Branch that Wednesday and… Read Full Review

“Woeful Online Service”

Written on: 27/01/2013

My memorable answer for my online account failed. So the website took me through a long process of asking for personal information before generating a reference number asking to phone an 0845 number. On the 0845 line, I was asked the same personal questions again, before being put on hold for 20 minutes, before finally speaking to an advisor, who informed me my online account was now reset . I went through this whole process 3 times before I gave up. A really shoddy online service compared to… Read Full Review

Absolutely terrible online banking system and am considering moving back to Santander (i know, right!?) just to get away from how basic and awful their system is. All you can do on it is check your balance and make a transfer. That's it. Nothing else. The same goes for their Mobile Apps - they're not proper apps, they just forward you onto their online banking mobile website - identical to the one which i can access through my regular browser!

Really, really disappointed with how little effort Halifax have put into these systems, considering how much people are using mobile apps and online banking these days. If Halifax are reading this, have a look at Nationwide for inspiration. Or Natwest. Or Santander. Or Barclays. Or First Direct. Ok, just look at any other bank and you will have inspiration as to how you can back your online system better.
