Good Points: turbo tool attachement.
Bad Points: everything: very loud sounds like a tank, filter clogs instantly, difficult to maneuver.
General comments: A very poor performace hoover. This model is more of a hindrance than a help. The thought of just getting it out and using it. Is far worse than any other household chore.

The Hoover DM4520 Dust Manager is the most non user friendly cleaner I have ever owned.
If this is the best that Hoover can do I would suggest that you buy a different make. Filters clogged constantly causing the motor to cut out. It was impossible to use the cleaner for more than 10 / 15 minutes without the engine cutting out. When we complained Hoover sent an engineer out who stated that it was badly designed and had to drill 2 holes in the back of the Hoover to allow more air flow.- Read Guest's review (142 words)

It cuts out after a few minuted , gets blocked and needs emptying 3-4 times you hoover the house, I would advise people to get a good brush and shovel before wasting any money on the worst thing i think i ever bought.- Read Steve Breck's review (55 words)

This Hoover is not lightweight, try carrying it up the stairs with one hand. The suction doesn't seem to be very good, but worse of all it cuts out due to overheating after about 10 minutes and you have to wait around 20-30 minutes before it will work again. A 30 minute Hoover of my house has just taken 2.5 hours, no fun (and it's Christmas!).- Read Guest's review (69 words and 2 comments)

Keeps cutting out.
Foot break will not hold handle upright, very bad design.
Heavy.
Noisy. Why don't hoover admit its got major faults instead of advising you to keep cleaning out.
Had to buy another cleaner to clean this one , hoover should sell one get one free.
Stick to Dyson!- Read nottsruss's review (55 words)

For a Hoover model I am very disappointed in it. I specifically spent a bit more money on this one believing that the make and model would keep going for years. My previous vacuum of a different make and cheaper, with a bag, had been going without a problem for at least 5 years. It's not very lightweight, the hose is not long enough, and the general cleaning power is not good. I won't be buying another Hoover model again, I've lost faith in them!- Read elizabethascua's review (152 words)

I was relieved to read that Sarah W had given up on this machine after only a year, because I did exactly the same and felt slightly guilty at not persevering. This model was so badly designed and the constant emptying was such a nuisance that I had begun to put off doing any vacuuming at all. I actually gave the Hoover away in disgust. I have now acquired a Sebo and it's wonderful.- Read Jeanoc's review (130 words)

Although we have had this machine for two years my wife has used it as little as possible preferring a non electric carpet cleaner. It is very heavy and extremely noisy. It cuts out frequently although I have cleaned it is accordance with instructions. Having cleaned it a couple of days ago and set it up again it still makes a hell of a noise and has cut out after about ten minutes. I am afraid we shall not use it again and cannot offer it for sale second hand as it would be unfair to a purchase ...- Read Molinuex's review (118 words)

Hoover have tried to get this product right and they so nearly have producing a lightweight inexpensive cleaner that has good filtration (at first) and great suction - however the latter two compromise one another causing regular overheating and shutdown. They need some sort of stainless steel filter than dries in seconds / minutes not the days of the current paper filters.- Read kristorg's review (173 words)

The Hoover DM4520 is absolute rubbish - it cannot even pick up the most basic things that one expects a vacuum cleaner to deal with. It keeps on overheating and when asked about it both the service line and the repair technician admit that it is badly designed and cannot cope with the "power" of the motor. After sales service is shocking, it took me more that 30 minutes to get an intelligent person on the line. Don't buy it.- Read Hadenough's review (78 words)

Never will I buy another Hoover. Only used downstairs and it can't even handle that. This is just a pile of junk, soon to be replace with our second cheap and cheerful, and very effective Vax bubble- Read whitemj's review (57 words)

The Hoover DM4520 Dust Manager looked stylish in the showroom, and it was a good price, but it is AWFUL.
It is so bad a vacuum cleaner I end up using a dustpan and brush more.
The first use the slide attachment which controls the carpet depth cleaning height broke off and snapped in two, and it just got worse.
Main complaint - it cuts out and overheats every 5 minutes, then it won't switch back on for half an hour, so no quick hoover up before friends/relatives come round - you'll be on ...- Read bbdebs's review (297 words)

Please do not waste your money on this pile of utter rubbish. The worst machine I have ever had without a doubt. The filters bock within minutes and although the manufacturer states the filters should be cleaned after every five uses, the reality is that it must be cleaned after every use. I reside in a small two bedroomed house, no kids, no animals and yet the filter continually blocks. Although the suction appears good, the pick up of threads etc is very poor. Additionally, the cord is too sho ...- Read foxeye1's review (142 words)

I selected this vacuum cleaner because it was lightweight and had a 3 litre capacity. 3 litre capacity - that's a joke! The filters clog so easily, it barely gets half full. I have three medium sized carpets, no pets, no kids; just me and my OH out at work all day, and the vacuum cleaner can't cope!!! The dust container is messy to empty, and there are four filters. All of which need cleaning and/or washing. The service and support from the retailer and from Hoover was appalling.- Read mollie anne's review (109 words)

This DM4520 is the WORST possible Hoover on the market. I fancied a change when my ancient Dyson died - big mistake! It doesn't suck up, you have to clean the filter cylinder every 5 minutes, the Hoover cuts out at least 10 times if you try and clean a whole house in one go as it overheats because the filters get blocked. After every 5 bin empties you have to wash the filter sponge and box and dry for 24 hour ! wow speedy or not. It cost over £130 - and is less than 6 months old - desp ...- Read Naughton's review (129 words)

I would not buy another upright Hoover. The catch on my Hoover DM4520 Dust Manager has broken for the second time (this leads to walls being scratched, and a damaged car due to the hoover unclipping and falling on it!!) I have two dogs and it struggles with pet hair! I'm getting a Miele CAT & DOG Cleaner, as these seem to have high respect.
I will never return to this design again.- Read carl Groombridge's review (84 words)
