do not pick up pet hair..or anything basically. got it about 3 years ago, turbo tool stopped working after a month. main component pick up ok on bare floor, not so good on carpets. you basically end up picking most of it by hand. Just finished hoovering my bedroom 4/3 square metres and took me 45 minutes. Very frustrating taking it's awfully heavy! i'll definitely stick with some other brand in future. (read more)

Can't remember which model it was as I thrown it! It's was a vacuum cleaner with the pet hair thing. Very powerful at start and was quite impressed. But quickly lost power, height setting broke very quickly as plastic parts are cheap and flimsy. My sons toys are better quality. Kept cutting out after hoovering one room. Power button broke and went into machine and then started smoking and now won't work. Couldn't use it to do stairs as too heavy and unstable. Would never ever buy any of... (read more)

I have owned my vax turboforce since 2007(nearly 5 years) and it has been great I had to replace a belt on it for the first time last year and now the bearing has gone in the brushbar a new one will cost me £15 but worth it as the vacuum is still going strong I agree with other comments about this hoover it is heavy and very noisy but it keeps my house clean all in all a good product from vax (read more)

Cable gets in the way
Difficult to use on the stairs

Only works well on floorboard setting
Thermal cut out has a problem and the cleaner has now broken after 18 months as a result of this. It now cuts out after 5 minutes and stays off for 30 minutes.
On the positive side, it is powerful and Vax has an efficient customer service but of course, it has they say now past it's guarantee by 6 months so tough.

Will never buy a vax product again.
There is nothing positive about this product except I managed to purchase it from the shop across the road, so I didn't have far to carry it. However, I am not able to return it there as the sticker on the top of it informs me. The fact that Vax have put a sticker on each of their products instructing customers to "not take it back to the shop" would...

The worst vacuum I have ever had. It is very heavy and the turbo tool has never lived up to its expectations as it blocks very quickly after only vacuuming the mat which the pets lie on, and yet it is supposed to be excellent for pet hair. Also the hose does not stretch very far on stairs like it stated it would in the sales jargon. (read more)

Suction is quite good. especially on a wooden floor. Hard work hoovering the stairs due the weight of the thing. Major problem with overheating on my hoover causing it to cut out, it won't work for an hour then it will for 10 minutes, then it won't work for an hour and so on! Very frustrating! (read more)

I have read some reviews on this hoover and must say some people are rather stupid, I mean no offence but seriously.
First the person that complained about blocked hose, burned out belts, running over the cable and it cutting out. lets take this one at a time.

When my Dyson broke I was reluctant to pay out for a new one and saw this online - I thought "what a great bargain!" however 1 month down the line when I attempted to vacuum up the Christmas tree pine needles I realised I should have splashed out on a new Dyson. The VAX cuts out at the drop of a hat and will not start for any time between 10 mins and an hour - I don't know why the time changes! The VAX 1700 WATT V006 is relatively cheap to buy, but very poor pick up from day one. Has to be set to lowest level to have any effect on carpet, but this makes it almost impossible to push. Cheap build quality, first broke down two days after guarantee ran out. Sent back to Vax for repair, cost £30.
Has got through four brush rollers at £13 a time (each has split inn the same place, suggesting a design fault), and at least eight drive belts at £3 a time. Bought for £80, and in seven...

This VAX 1700 WATT V006 is the best hoover ive used to date. Its suction capacity is so good, its a pleasure to use although be warned "it will suck up anything in its path". It is heavy to lift and can be a bit heavy to push, but on the whole thats the only negative point.i personally find. Theres ample cord so u can hoover the upstairs whilst plugged in downstairs. I decided to vacuum all the little crevices that you only do every so often. Imagine my horror when I returned to move the Vax, when I found that it had burnt a hole in the middl eof my lounge carpet.! Beware, make sure the setting is really high & the extra middle wheels are set so that you can avoid the same problem. (read more)

I also purchased online VAX 1700 WATT V006 regraded stock, was happy till it stopped working after 6 months of light use. Seems the motor is overheating, which it appears they are prone to do. Don't know how this will be resolved as yet but am not going to hold my breath. Since purchasing this I have learned that Vax seem to have a major reliability problem. Would not recommend. I purchased the VAX 1700 WATT V006 about 10 months ago. I paid a very minimal price for this, at just £49 (from a Vax graded online company) compared to the usual retail price of £129. Bargain, I have to say. I was so impressed with this product I bought a second one from the same company at just £32 for a friend.
This vacuum cleaner is amazing. I can't rate it enough. The suction power is awesom. The onboard tools are handy with quick access and it's just such a mean machine. Any blockages...

I bought this vacuum on-line and really got what I paid for - it was very cheap. If you are looking to buy a bagless vac don't do what I did and think you will be getting a Dyson on the cheap because you wont. There is just no comparison and I can see now I should have saved my money and waited until I could afford the genuine article. (read more)

Mine has given up after two months and Vax insist on having it sent to them for repair by courier. Currys informeed me that other manufacturers would simply have exchanged it for a new model as it is so new, but not Vax - so check this aspect of the warranty before purchase!
I will have to take 2 days off work to await pick up and then delivery back of the thing.
Buy one at your peril.

I was a bit shocked by the low scores in these reviews. A Dyson only seems to last about a year or so, and I appreciate their after sales care is pretty good, but I could do without the hassle to be honest.

I have/had the VAX 1700 V-006 1850 model until earlier today. Like yours, mine would run for no longer than three minutes before the motor overheated. It would take another 40 or 50 minutes before it cooled down, when I could get another 3 minutes out of it again!<br/><br/>Again, like you, I returned the vacuum to Curry's (see separate review of their appalling after-sales) who would only offer a repair as, despite only being used TWICE, it was 6 weeks old and therefore beyond their 28 day refund policy. <br/><br/>Curry + Vax = a shocking combination!

My wife bought the Vax 1700 Watt V006 vacuum cleaner to replace a 15 year old, 550W Electrolux upright. My first impressions on opening the box was that Vax had given me a box of spare parts. Almost everything, apart from the motor, had to be screwed together. While doing this I noticed that there are lots of things in the design that don't add up: The plastic 'spine' of the machine is big and chunky, but it's only function is to accommodate the handle of the dust container. I have a Vax V006 and it's an absolute disappointment. It easily overheats so needs filter cleaning every couple of months, and the recommendation is to change the filter each year!!
The belts snap very easily when the hoover gets warm, and the belts cost about £4.00. Add that to the cost of filters, and this model is like an old car - pricey to keep running!
I do miss my old Henry vac, which I gave away when I bought my wife the Vax v006. The Henry vac was 7 years old, and was still...

The hose on the Vax 1700 Watt V006 that I purchased collapsed when using the hand tools due to the fact that the hose is not strong enough to resist the suction. It restricted the air flow so much that the motor over-heated and tripped out. I didn't even get through one room. It has been returned for a refund. No point in trying another one as this is clearly a design fault. (read more)

I bought the VAX 1700 WATT V006 to replace a Bosh hoover that blew up and I have found it to be excellent. Its cleaning power is superb, better than any 2000 watt machines. It has a big light on the front which is a little unsightly, however really helps to see in dark spots, like under the bed. Its so powerful then when you push is it it sort of propells itself, which is great. It lifts the carpet with its suction and gets into all the corners. The dust bag is very easy to take off and... I bought my vax 1700 after reading some excellent reviews. I have only had it for a week and I find that it cuts out when it gets hot. I can only hoover upstairs and the stairs and then it cuts out. I have to wait until the motor has completely cooled down before I can hoover downstairs.
<br>Has anyone else experienced this problem. It's not as if I live in a mansion as we only have 3 bedrooms.

Hi I think your vax must be faulty as I can hoover for over an hour without any problems, it doesn't even get too hot. I suggest you take it back and get another as it really is a good hoover...
