Bad Points: Does not have a non rotating extractor although this is of little consequence to reliability of the action. I own two 700's and have yet to have the case head pulled off, or any failure to extract. I do find small shavings of brass occasionally around the bolt face, but nothing I can't remove with a toothbrush.
General comments: Heavy! It was designed to be heavy to give it stability in turn allowing more accurate long distance shots. If you want a light rifle, get yourself a 700 BDL sporter to carry around. This rifle is very nice to look at. I get laughed at by some for valuing aesthetics when it comes to firearms, But... it's darn good looking! The laminated wood is a big part of this aesthetics thing. Wood feels good in all different temperatures. I have picked up some black synthetic stocked guns on a hot day, and .. well.... I like to handle a gun when I need to, not fry an egg.
Very good quality, and nice feel. These two go hand in hand. You can feel the quality when you handle it. Well designed for its purpose.

Gun is very accurate, at all ranges. Well worth the price. Very accurate gun, can reach out and touch something.

The Remington VLS is a great long range rifle for any style of varmint hunting. This is the perfect coyote rifle and will not let you down in the accuracy department. I have grouped 1" at 100 yards easily with handloads and even with factory ammo will easily be adequate for most situations. If you can afford it and need a straight shooting varminter, go for it. The best in its price range.

Fitted with a Nikko-Sterling 'Nighteater' 4-16 x 50 scope and a Harris 6-9" bipod, this weapon was purchased for its versatility, as both a competition and a hunting rifle. Ammuntition tested in the Remington Model 700 VLS .223 weapon were PMC 55gr SP and Reminton Express 55gr PSP. It produced consistent groups at range (200m+) after 40 rounds had passed through (with both types of ammo, remington PSP produced marginally better groups), undoubtedly the heavy barrel config of this model aided in ...
