This went on well & smelled OK. But now I'm looking at the result, I wouldn't buy it again. It's certainly no better than any other fake tan product... and it IS more 'fake tan' than gradual tan. As with so many other fake tanners, the result is very YELLOW - I prefer a less yellow/brown tone, but finding a fake tan that isn't yellow-based is like finding a needle in a haystack. (the best one is Avon 'skin so soft' soft & glow but sadly this has been discontinued). However, if you get... (read more)

This product is ok if you understand that it is not going to bronze you. You're going to look like you've been out in the sun for a little while, but you aren't going to be a "footballers wife". Yeap you can double up and get it to go darker, but this means more money and more importantly - More time. If you want a good colour by the weekend you need to start thinking about it on Monday. If you have no illusions about what this'll do then you'll get on with this fine - but if you're like me... (read more)

I'm not sure if it works as a gradual tanner, to be honest, because the acrid chemical pong had me give up on it after a couple of days. I guess most fake tanners are full of nasty chemicals - this one just doesn't manage to disguise it. (read more)

Bought a bottle to try out as I usually burn in the sun and this really does work I have a lovely tan building and at only £1.99 a bottle I thought I would try it cannot fault it one bit I don't mind the smell, it isn't as bad as some fake tans I've tried so after this I went back and bought two more to stock up as its nearly winter and no doubt I'll buy a few more to put in my cupboard! I am getting married in 6 weeks and have been uming and ahing over sunbeds / spray tan or fake tan..... I would usually use sunbeds a few weeks before but i dont fancy the idea of possibly peeling on my wedding day!! (I always peel) I cant really afford a fake tan and a trial of a fake tan (as i don't really trust them. Some look soooo orangey and how do you tell which ones will turn out ok). I love this product, i have always been scared of fake tans but this is brilliant, i moisturize first and then apply and i have never had streaks of blotches.
I have recommended this to many people and they all love it AND it looks totally real.
I have a few bottles now for safe keeping ;)
Easy to use and great finish, i love being able to show off my legs and not be embarrassed about the brighter shade of white that i carry around with me all year round.

I put it on after a bath, all over my body and waited for about an hour before putting clothes back on, as I know it can go streaky, it didn't feel very absorbed but I thought an hour was long enough. The next morning I woke up with streaky arms and legs, so I used it that night after a bath, but waited 2 hours and used a hair dryer, it still didn't feel fully absorbed, but I still turned out blotchy in the morning, I wouldn't recommend this product. I used the overnight one and I would advise anyone who is going to use it for the first time to do a skin test. I wish I had. The day after I used it my arms, legs, chest area - basically where I had put it - came out in a horrible rash with huge itchy bumps. The doctor gave me anti-histamine tablets and for a second opinion I asked the pharmasist who coincidently suffered the same outcome as me, so she knew it was from using Johnstons Holiday skin lotion. WARNING! The horrible smell doesn't come out of your clothes/towels! I've used Johnsons Holiday Skin Lotion for a few yrs now. The first one had that familiar fake tan smell, but it disappeared after a shower & gave a beautiful tan for days! The new one last year was AWFUL! The new aloe vera added didn't help. The original smell was sweet, but a lingering annoying smell afterwards, loads of blobs on my skin as the product NEVER absorbed right & not as good a tan either. I decided to give it... (read more)

I totally agree! Glad its not just me. The smell going on was lovely, but two days (and a shower and a bath) later I have this really weird smell on my skin and it's not nice. It's a strange smell, not even a fake tan smell, more like mouldy water smell. I won't be using it again!

Okay , Im writing this review in April 2011.
The Positives first- I am confused by all these comments abut smell! The scent is a very nice, quite fruity almost vanilla smell which I find very pleasant and when I opened it up to smell it in Boots (yes I am one of those people) Me and my friend both thought it smelled divine. Now the colour is also very good, I used fair to medium skin. The colour is Browny Golden with absolutely no orange tone. It developed after about an hour and I reckon...

i had heard so many mixed reviews about this product, and nearly every single one commented on the smell of the product- so heres my review for the fair-medium one
packaging- okay, so it comes in a yellow bottle so it is very noticible on the shelves in the store. it is quite bright and summery and on the front it just says what it is and at the very top it says - no more streaks* .. so theres me thinking that the asterix means that there is a massive hidden catch but no- it tells you why...

I've used this since it first came out and think it is very good and easy to use, however the smell is horrible it's like how the old fake tan used to smell and the smell doesn't wear off during the day. I would recommend it but I would have to warn about the smell as it can be quite off putting. (read more)

I've used the old Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion before, and it was really great- no smell, even colour, just generally looked like an actual tan without being orange. However, I used the new one this morning, and it absoloutely stank. Can't stand the smell! One plus was that my colour was slightly darker within an hour, which is great, but my legs did feel sticky for about half an hour after applying it. I don't know why everyone's complaining about the smell. It isn't really a smell like you'd smell on a human like...it's more like a car air freshener, but it doesn't smell bad and it isn't too strong. I got mine out of Poundland, so it was only a quid, which was good, and it already, after a few hours, has a very light brownish tan, which is all I wanted. Not for those who want a self tan that's odourless or has a really strong and quick effect. (read more)

I don't really feel that your your allergy is the products fault, anyone with sensative skin knows you should allways do a patch test for any product you are thinking of applying to your skin. If you are sneaky, you could even do it in the store, just put a tiny amount somewhere out of sight (like behind your ear) and after a day if there is no reaction go buy it.

i dont agree!
if you turn orange youve put it on too much ,using this product once maybe twice will bring out your highest tan colour for your body,if you apply more than this and it turns orange it means that the tan you had before you went orange is you darkest sun colour!
its a good product although the ONLY problem is it can turn very streaky if you dont apply well !
i wnt orange first few times i used it and then got told about my darkest colour!
