Everything was very straight forward and very efficient at pick up and delivery back. All very smooth and easy. My one quibble would be that the card advertised was different to that confirmed when I made the booking online! The car we received was different again Fiat Panda! Fine inside but the tiniest of boots and just about got our luggage (3 friends for 3 nights) into it! I had no problems. Tank was full when I picked up & I returned with tank full. Had accident in Paris and was assessed 800 euro for fix which I recovered from credit card. We have hired through Argus about 10 times over 3 months in Spain and have have varying results. The full to full hires have been the cheapest, even though the initial outlay has been more. Full to empty hires you have to add another 78 to 107 Euro to your hire cost. If Argus & Cartrawler would add these costs to their web site you could make an informed decision. The other trap to watch for is the out of hours additional cost, which again Argus & Cartrawler do not include on their web site.... (read more)

I have used Argus to rent several cars with airport locations in UK over the past few months. The site is easy to use and does seem to come up with good deals (I've compared costs with other search sites and the hire companies direct). Be careful over choice of on or off airport location unless you are happy for a potentially long wait/bus ride which you may have to pay for, negating the saving of airport surcharge. “Payment for full tank of petrol”

86 euros for a full tank of petrol in a Ford Fiesta is extortionate. There is no option to return the car with a full tank. All cars have to be returned with an empty tank. If you don't use all the fuel you are not reimbursed for any unused petrol. I had no option but to return the car with a half tank of petrol, thereby giving the rental company over 40 euros worth of petrol. I'll be using the shuttle bus in future. Argus have by far best website in terms of use. But let down by partner car suppliers. We hired in Portugal a small car from Goldstar... The worst company in the business! Delightful new car, but their customer service was slow, and rude when we didn't want to use their own insurance (we purchased overseas insurance here in England). This was the cheapest provider for my trip to Switzerland so I went with it. The car was slightly bigger than I expected, clean, in great condition. The only downside was that I had reserved the car for a specific time and had to wait 30min after that until they had a car available for me. That was the only downside. I have been using Argus Car hire for years and I use them about 12 times a year. I am very happy and I'll continue renting through them and I would recommend them to anybody. Argus appear to be one of the best car hire web sites but they do not care for their customers if there is a problem - they simply refer you to Cartrawler to respond. Argus do not give any information about who the hire agreement is with prior to making a booking nor out of hour additional charges nor any fuel costs incurred when booking a full to empty hire. I have used Argus Carhire for years. The site is very reliable. I have had different experiences with the different car hire company's, though. Latest, a mislaid key couldn't be replaced by the car hire company in Dublin - as the the replacement key was in Limerick and not in Dublin! Car Hire company was fine, no problems there. Angus is basically a brokers and not a hire company itself. However; when we got to the car hire place they suggested that we pay 20 Euros for motorway tolls. Don't bother- at present Portugal motorway tolls are in a mess and foreign car hirers don't seem to be being charged. I guess this may change in future but we would have been 20Euros better off. I booked tonight on Arguscarhire for a Ford Focus Auto or similar in Cyprus, using the Dollar/Thrifty car rental the price was good and I included the insurance cover. When the booking came through it was a Ford Fusion, I queried straight away as the Fusion is a Group C and the Focus is a Group D car. However they came back and said it was similar. I booked our car via internet a reprisentative called me who was very helpfull. The price was the cheapest the security deposit was just 250 pounds, and the car was almost brand new. Please do not use this firm. An utter rip off when I recently booked with them. Firstly the insurance they sell you to reduce excess was refused as not of any use so had to buy a rip off one or no be able to hire the car. I compained on my return - no refund offered, waht a joke. I respect the fact Argus confirm price with dealer before booking car, but i would prefer they offer accidental insurance in package ahead of time so you have choices. Do not rent from island car rental their car is in poor condition and they blame customer for their damages. Staff is very unprofessional and be careful they add your price higher when you get their. Never would i rent from such business again. Hertz is the way to go. (read more)
