    I dont what prompted me to use their service. It was a total mistake from the time i started to book it to the time we gave the car back. Never have i had so many problems with a car hire before. Rude customer service rep, closed on sundays (no notifications given), no one answers the phone even when they are next to it!! (argus is an online operator, National Car Hire was the company)
    Tried calling Argus as well but they wont answer too!

    Got the car delivery after waiting an hour in the queue !!!! they didnt have any cars, and apparently cars were on 'their way' from Glasgow! I know one place where im never going back again!

    I BOOKED A VEHICLE BACK IN SEPTEMBER BUT NOT USING IT TILL THIS NOVEMBER 2009. DUE TO FAMILY REASONS I HAVE HAD TO CANCEL MY BOOKING THEY GAVE ME A REFUND OF ONLY 1/2 THEY ARE A RIP OFF I AM STILL WAITING I WAS WILL WITHIN THE 48 HOURS FOR A FULL REFUND I THINK 5 WEEKS CANCELLATION IS ENOUGH TIME.

    Gold Car Rental, Palma Airport 28th Sept. 2009
    1. They could not supply the car booked and charged 2Euros per day extra for a diesel, which was the only car they had. I think they should have waived this as they accepted the booking but could not fullfil it.
    2. The charge for petrol was 12c / litre dearer than anywhere else on the Island.
    3. They charged for 5 litres more fuel than the car holds (checked with Ford)

    DO NOT BOOK A CAR WITH ARGUS CAR HIRE.I booked a car for 137 EUR and when i collected car from gold car the total cost was 270 EUR YES 270 EUR.


    DO NOT USE THIS CAR HIRE COMPANY
    FUEL COST ON A BELINGO WAS 103 EUR IN A 59 LITRE TANK!

    I hired my car through Argus Car Hire and took out their 'peace of mind' insurance.
    The car was via Europcar and was a very nice Lancia.
    At the desk I was asked whether I wanted insurance, I said no as I had already purchased it via Argus Car Hire. When I returned home I was charged £370 from Europcar for Insurance I didn't buy.
    Argus Car Hire said it was nothing to do with them and could not even assist. Their customer service is appalling and slow.

    Booked car through this company via internet. Charged an extra 100 euros deposit when picking up car from the most unhelpful staff I have ever come across. Returned the vehicle on 23.07.2009 with full tank of fuel, undamaged. 100 euros never returned and an additional 172 euros charged on credit card for allegedly filling up with wrong type of fuel which is not the case.     I only awarded a star because I had to. Argus Car Hire will hire you a car that the depot has not even heard of let alone have stock. You will be palmed off with 'or similar' which will not be even remotely similar and completely impractical for the purpose you hire it for. And if you complain you will be kept hanging around for at least 2 hours while "they are on the phone and will call you back in 10 minutes" Don't let these people ruin your weekend like they did mine and several others.

    Booked a car through Argus!
    Arrived at Las Palmas, Gran Canaria and went to collect our car from Gold Car Rentals. !I had to pay an extra £100 for extra's including a full tank of fuel.
    After getting home I complained to Argus who did absolutley nothing to help with my query. I requested a break down of my bill but they just kept saying the charge of £100 was for fuel.
    Reminds me of bad old timeshare moved into the car rental market

    Struggled with other companies to get a car over the internet at Easter but got one with Argus who acted as an agent for Auriga Crown. Had to pay extra for insurance and a full tank of petrol though! (You are told to return the car as empty as possible, which is almost impossible on a short rental!) Therefore Auriga Crown always end up winners! Still we were pleased with the the car which was exactly as booked and in a lovely condition. We enjoyed our travels around the island in it.

    Argus Car Hire take your deposit money not knowing whether they can get you a car or not!!!!. I booked with them on 25 July 09 for my holiday which was on 6 Aug 09 they e-mailed me on 1 Aug 09 to say they couldnt provide a car for us leaving us no time to book another one. It is now the 3 Sep 09 and I am still waiting for my refund I would definately think twice about using this company yes they might be the cheapest but that isnt always a good thing we I have now found out.

    Hired a Ford Fiesta from Argus Car Hire, at the collection desk i was asked if i was interested in a special offer. I could have a Citroen Picasso for 1 euro a day extra, it turned out to be the Exclusive Model, with Auto/Manual and F1 paddle shifts, and fully loaded with all extras. I could not believe my luck,Probably will never happen again but it made my day, This is a true version of what occured.     Avis would not take the voucher saying that they have no agreement with Argus. Luckily there were other cars available and I hired directly through Avis on the spot.

    However, getting a refund on the deposit I paid to Argus is impossible. I have been in contact with Argus - for the first 2 months they kept forwarding my e-mails to Avis themselves (after I told Argus I wished to deal directly with them) and now 4 months later there is still no sign of a refund and my case is still 'in progress'. ...

    Showed up and there was no car, called Argus Car Hire and they told me they could do nothing about it. Then offered to book me another one for twice the price and not available for 12 hours, were not able to tell me what rights I had under my contract though I could find them in 10 seconds on their webpage.     I went on holiday to Alicante - Spain with two other families. Two of us booked vehicles through Argus Car Hire. We received bookings for 2 different car hire outlets. When we arrived the other family were told that there was no car available (Even though they had paid a deposit). They rung Argus Car Hire from the airport who were unable to assist even when it was pointed out that they had two children with them.     I ordered and payed for a ford focus stationwagon 6 month before we arrived.

    Arriving at Alghero airport they us they did not have the car.

    What can one do at that time?

    We could get a much smaller:(

    After 19 days they have not refunded any money.

    Do not use this Argus Car Hire.

    I used Argus Car Hire/ Cartrawler to hire a car in Faro, Portugal. When checking the car, supplied by Travel Rent, I noticed that one tyre had very little tread left. When I pointed this out I was told it would be ok as long as the weather remained hot! I wasn't happy about this and asked for another staff member - he agreed that the tyre was unsafe and showed me another car, again one tyre was without tread and I got the same response that it would be safe in hot weather.     Got charged twice because I had the incorrect voucher, first by Argus Rental then by local car-hire company. Unlike other on-line providers you have to click through to a multiplicity of links to get to the right voucher. They also gave me the wrong car. Turned out to be the most expensive car-hire ever, avoid them no value-add just go direct to the supplier.

    Argus simply guarantee the best price for the vehicle type you book . I use them frequently and have never had a problem. you dont get the best car available but you get what you order at the best price withoutfail.
