Good Points: Cheap (but then again I didn't get anything for my money really so actually expensive!)
Bad Points: They were unreliable in my case and I was let down big time.
General comments: I had same problems with Argus Car Hire as Brundle but this time in Croatia. Am trying to get deposit back but appears to be impossible to speak to anyone and I have not received a response to my emails - who do I complain to?

I have had an all round bad experience with this company having used them several times in Dublin. I only used them again because of the cheap prices and the pick up and drop location is close to where we stay. However, I had forgotten how awful it is dealing with them. This year, they unapologetically messed up the pick up and drop off for their convenience and totally without view to the cost and time lost to us. Simple questions to them about why they couldn't have done things the way we boo ...

I booked a car for my family of 6 in April 2008 paying (fortunately) only the £31.00 deposit, to find out when I arrived in Menorca on the 22/08 my car was not available and I was left stranded at the airport. Since my return I have had no response or acknowledgement from my 3 emails and the irritating call centre personnel tell me the Customer Service centres apparently do not have phones in the building and that I cannot write a letter to them. What incredulous rubbish!

Customer service was non existent. I made a typo when booking which meant I paid for 4 days rental not 3. When I tried to amend the booking it proved impossible. When I tried to cancel they would not let me. When I complained that they overcharged me I got nowhere. Do not recommend using Argus Car Hire.

I do NOT recommend these people to anyone, when challenged at the airport on our return of the vehicle we were greeted with the same snooty response, with a complete disregard for our customer concerns. I have been unable to contact them since our return, but will persevere.

We were given a lower graded car by Advantage in Orlando and was not consulted if this was acceptable. By the time the car was delivered and we realised it was the wrong grade. We were too tired to queue up and make our complain. We have since complained by e-mail and by post some weeks ago and have received no acknowledgement or response to either.

I rented a car with Budget through this company. The price I paid bore no relation to what I was charged.
1. I had to pay 9 euros per day extra to top up the so called "comprehensive insurance"
2. I had to leave a credit card imprint for 800 euro in case they found anything not right. When I challenged these extras I was just treated to a shrug.
3. The vehicle (admittedly an upgrade from what I ordered) was a Corsa. Never again. I don't think I've ever had to change gear so many time just to ge ...

It may seem cheap on face value but don't do it. Whatever quote you get given is not what you pay... mine jumped from 88 euro to 177 euro when I picked up a Goldcar in Spain and i was charged 65 euro for a full tank of petrol but also 10 euro for a diesel when I didn't request one.

Recently hired a car in Ireland through this Europcar which I booked through Argus Car Ireland. Have used many car hire companies in the past (including Europecar) and they are truly the most rude and unhelpful company. Their representative was not helpful when I queried something in the contract when we arrived.

I have used Argus Car Hire twice now and both times I have had problems. They have over charged my card for a deposit which I have to get Visa to sort out.
They also advertise example for each category which weren't even close to what I got in terms of size and spec.

I have been driving accident free, all over the world, for 50 years and a similar length of time hiring cars. My current experience with Thrifty Car Rental in Ireland which was set up by Argus Car Hire is the worst experience I've had in 50 years of driving. I only wish they could show the supplier on their car select screen. they have free cancellations so feasibly you could ring them and talk through the suppliers changing it to your preference but why can't they show them on the select screen? I personally had a bad experience with a car company in Tenerife called Orlando and would never want to go with them again - anyway the car I got in Nice was with Europcar so I had no need to worry.

I booked a vehicle through Argus Car Hire and received confirmation of availability & cost. Two months later I was advised it was in fact not available and was offered the same vehicle via a different supplier but for 3 times the price. Their call centre would not let me speak to a supervisor or offer me the alternative at the agreed original price.
These people are amateurs and liars - their customer service is appalling, their prices are NOT guaranteed after all - AVOID AT ALL COST

I booked a hire car in Spain and the quote was 66.40 euros. When I checked the credit card a few weeks later they had taken almost £120 of my credit card. I returned the call with a full tank of full no damage etc, not sure why I have been charged this much, still investigating, not happy and wont use them ever again, no customer service, all I can do is send an email.

Argus Trawler website has Laser Maestro as an option on its payment screen. In reality you have to use Visa or other credit card when picking up car. This was not on the list of items to bring to the airport.

We all know car hire in Spain is very cheap. I found Argus car hire the cheapest and I did like the deposit pay the rest at the counter angle. I mean the longer the money is in my account the better!
Got there and the local agent was spot on - even gave friendly advice on a better route to the villa we had booked.
Car was spotless and next to new - would definately use them again.

Booked two months before departure. Booking confirmed. Upon arrival, no car available and advised that the booking had been cancelled. No apology. Took two weeks to have refund from company and no explanation to date. In future I will avoid this company, the entire experience was bad.

After getting cheap flights to Malaga and the free use of a friend's Marbella apartment, I decided to treat myself to a hire car to arrive in style at my plush new home for a week. Checking out some other car hire sites, I found it difficult to locate a car for the time that I would be landing. I then stumbled upon arguscarhire.com and found a perfect car. I just wanted the car for 24 hours and got a great deal. The whole holiday turned out to be a bargain!

Booked car online, at collection no car available, requested refund from Argus, Cartrawler, as had to hire elsewhere.
Two months later no refund, no reply from numerous emails to customer services, no contact number for them either.
Could only speak to sales in Dublin and the sales girl would not put me through to anybody who could deal with the problem.
Just read the small print in the terms and conditions, it does not offer confidence or security, I wish I had read before dealing with them, ...

Booked a four door Punto and got a nice upgrade to a four door Focus. Shuttle bus was an extra 15 minutes on the check out time but the staff were very friendly and the car was spotless. Not a hiccup on the drive to the villa and when I brought it back it was a quick sign off and on our way.
Loved the deposit angle - why pay everything up front? Secure your car and save your credit card the pain of fully paying up front.
