On landing in Valencia airport I followed the instructions to meet the bus, although it wasn't there at the time but after a 5 min wait it arrived,it took me to the office situated across the road. There I was greeted by a friendly Spanish man who without any fuss took my details and payment ( £175 for 9 days full-full contract) and showed me to the car ( ford focus 1.8tdi) and off I went on my merry way. That evening I suddenly realised that my driving license was missing in a blaze of... (read more)

I hire a car 5 times a year in the costa blanca and always get ripped of by the rental companies with the full to empty policy. Last time i was charged £90 for a full tank of fuel. Used Solamar in Alicante in April with a full to full fuel fuel policy, the rental cost was 5 more than the cheapestther rental company but there's was a full to empty, so in effect I made a considerable saving as I only do 200km's. My wife and I booked this car with an agent in the UK for a 4 day trip on the 28th February 2013. The car was collected from Barcelona airport for our trip to Andorra. The car collection point is quite away from the airport but they did pick us up from the airport arrivals in a mini bus. This was a 10 minute drive. Although we had paid all insurance excesses and cdw charges in the UK we were advised this was not really suitable as we had not insured the car with Sol-Mar directly. And... (read more)

As a former employee I feel obligated to inform furture customers of Solmar. I don't feel any resentment to my former employer as they we're good to us in better times, but the economic crisis hit this spanish company hard which resulted in poor customer service. 1. Lack of employees results in long waiting times for pick-up, unclean cars, quality failures, unanswered phone calls, unfriendly (stressed) staff, etc 2. Unanswered phone calls. Hello,
I would take a look at Solmars facebook page, they have totally replaced their car hire fleet this year with some top end cars including a lot of fashionable cars. I think they are making an effort. I have always used them and yes I have always had an old car with silly mileage but this year I have been guaranteed a 2013 s-max or Zafira.

Used them because they offered full/full.However the petrol gauge did'nt work,so how do I know it was full.Tyres close to illegal,no rear wiper blade,no washer fluid,85k on the clock,I know diesels are a little noisy but this one sounded like a box of nails. (read more)

We hired a car through Bravo car hire from Alicante airport for October 2012, we were sent a voucher for sol-mar. When we arrived at the airport there was no desk in the terminal, so we had to proceed downstairs to the coach pick up point and look out for a sol-mar shuttle, which we just had to wait until it turned up? We were then taken on a 15-20 minute drive, to the furthest compound for all the off airport car hire companies. We then got out the shuttle handling our cases yet again out... (read more)

I can see why people review this company so badly but I do not agree with most of the reviews. Solmar are very different to the likes of Drivalia or Centauro in the way that their cars are not new. In fact the car we had was 3 years old, had a few scrapes etc but was totally legal. The car had all the legal paperwork, the triangle and yellow jackets, the tyres were all new and the car was clean. I can understand some peoples issues that the cars have done some silly mileages (Ours had... (read more)

This is my own review but I thought I would update it since i have booked a car from 20th May for 2 weeks with solmar again. I joined their facebook page and it clearly shows they wish to stay competitive as they have totally replaced their old fleet with some nice looking stuff like Citroen DS3, Mini coopers and new Lancias. I cannot wait to drive the new 2013 S-max or Zafira that they have booked me.

Agency is not located in the airport. Even if you take a full insurance through whatever site you are booking, they are making you signing for an additional insurance to cover excess which is quite high (and higlhy recommended if you are in Spain) Car fleet is old, smelly (tobacco) and car does not function properly to the point of being really not safe.
