Very bad experience from the Netherlands. Tried booking a car over a Dutch website where I got connected to holidayautos. I Was looking for a convertible car on Rhodes, Greece. Within 48 hours I would get a confirmation of the availability of the car, but did not receive a reply. “Battered Car 75000 Klms”

I paid in advance with Holiday Autos for a 4 door Fiesta size car, paying for the full protected insurance. Landed at Pisa at 21:45. Holiday Autos had booked the hire with Firefly. At the desk I was informed that the insurance excess paid to Holiday Autos didn't apply to their cars. I was faced with Firefly BLOCKING my credit card for 1,500 Euros (which they would release, assuming no new damage) or paying 'their' own insurance. I have also hired a car through Holiday Autos fulfilled by Firefly at Pisa and whilst I agree about the quality of the car (but to be honest, what do you expect when this supplier is half the price of the main brands?) I would say that it is the above reviewer's fault for paying the additional excess waiver.

The deal is clearly that you allow yourself full excess liability at the supplier's end and HA will then refund you any payment you have had to make if any damage is caused, provided you have paid for their total excess waiver on booking. You just ignore the supplier trying to sell you the duplicate product. Surely any consumer should be aware of what they have already paid for and recognise where further payments are unnecessary. I think that asking HA to refund you for this is outrageous.

I have used HA/Firefly (previously Advantage) many times at Pisa and the arrangement is good. I have also had cause to go through their claims process (helpful staff, regardless of where they are based) following a puncture and again found this straightforward and easy, with payment received in less than a calendar month.

I would recommend HA provided that you understand what you are signing up for. Reliable & good value compared to the other options.

Recently used this company, problems noted, vague directions as to where to pick up the shuttle transport to the selected car hire firm, 15 mins wait until picked up to take us to the car hire premises. At the car hire premises 25-30 min wait until dealt with (lack of staff). Offered a change of car ( smaller car than booked --- declined ) the car that I eventually received had a front panel hanging off !!! declined -- more wait until paper work changed, second car offered had dents all over... “Joke at Gatwick Airport”

booked a car through Holiday Autos for Gatwick Airport. You pay up front then find out that it is a company called Easirent who are not even based at the airport. Easirent are supposed to send a driver to take you to the car. We waited in the cold for 1h20 minutes before we gave up and booked with Hertz. Waste of time and money - avoid like the plague. We rented a car in Lisabon airport. The agent Jardin said that they didn't had any cars altough we hade a correct voucher. The local sales rep called the local boss and suddenly we got a car. What a car? Hyunday Getz with more than 100.000km on the trip meter. The clutz barely worked and after 1 hour of driving the car went dead. We rented a car at Vienna airport for a whole week from Holiday Autos. The company they brokered us with was Mega Drive, a branch of the locally renowned Buchbinder rental company. Their desks are hidden away in a container inside a park house, well away from the arrivals area and impossible to find due to lack of signage. i booked a car through holiday autos and whilst on holiday my only card declined ....we were completely embarrassed as we don't use credit cards..... when i got back to the UK this company had debited my account for the car hire 7 times !!! We booked a car for our arrival in Malaga airport on Sat 4 May. We spent 2 hours in the queue to pick up a car from The Goldcar Spain desk. If Holiday Autos has a collaboration with so many companies I do not understand why all the bookings then go to one company at the same time. I booked a car to pick up in Funchal just before we left on holiday and received an email back which said - 'We've received your booking for car hire, but we need to check that the car you have selected is available. Just a warning to everyone re the crazy fuel policy in Southern Spain. We just rented a tiny compact car for 1 week in Malaga. Total rental €120 - total fuel charged on top of this? €94!!! We had no choice but to pay for a full tank (or indeed that of a much larger car), despite knowing that we would only be driving 100km or so. “Never us this company”

I booked a car with this company and when the booking came it was not what I wanted so I phoned them straight back to cancel the booking. They canceld the booking but they did not return my payment to my card I have to make loads of phone calls and sent a few email before getting anywhere. The car was fine, but it took ages for the one person at Goldcar to deal with a short queue. Then he pointed at the long list of exclusions from the insurance cover - tyres, wheels, mirrors, clutch, just about everything except the body of the car - would we like to have insurance for these? I ordered a Corsa which cost more than a fiat panda but got a fiat panda. I also took the total collision waiver and was told by the car rental company that it was worthless and I would either have to leave a €500 deposit or pay their total collision waiver. The Fiat panda's front windscreen wipers were in poor condition and the rubber was split.The rear windscreen wiper was missing. Hired a car from via Holiday Autos, to be fair the hire company Buchbinder are the sharks but Holiday Autos sell their cars. I booked a compact car to collect at Miami Airport. On the HA website this is clearly indicated as a Ford Focus or similar size. On their website, Snow tyres are a optional extra. Not going anywhere snowy, I didn't buy optional snow tires. When I turn up, I am told I have to have snow tyres at a charge of £41.25 for 6 days!!! Holiday Autos used to be a highly reputable company. Now they seem to be screwing thier customers left, right and centre. Just returned from Faro, yes, you've guessed it, the great Iberian rip off, fuel. Economy car 75 euros for fuel + 12 for filling it up + tax on top!! I have used Holiday Autos, and have been satisfied with the price and service. However, I ceased using them, in Spain, when they became part of the great "Spanish fuel rip off"! It was not clear until after I had paid that the rental agent was located off the airport, this made what looked like a good price actually poor value. Used them twice - worst experience in St Lucia. Car not as ordered - too small for 4 aunts with luggage. Cars old and with illegal tyres. They only use agents and the one in St Lucia was positively hostile. Arrived at Geneva with instructions to go to the car park. When we did so it was deserted. We rang to be told to get a shuttle bus to a local hotel. hire was subcontracted out to some dodgy sub contractor. My voucher told me to go to level -6 pink area at the airport to be met by a rep. I did this with bags and 3 kids in tow . No one there. I have just booked a car for New Zealand for 5 weeks. The quoted rated and authorised amount to be taken out of my bank account was £1052-74. Holiday Autos promly took £ 1268-26 out of my account. I have a terribler problem trying to obtain a refund through their Indian call centre.
This is against the law as a conract was formed and the company broke the agreement. Totally dispicable. What a way to do business!!

I hired my car for first time with Holiday autos last Christmas (2012) for my trip to Barcelona. The flight was delayed because of the weather and I was ready to pic up my assigned car at 10 p.m. Although that was the time when they officially closed, they waited for me to arrive. I hired a car thru holidays auto, paid at full in advance, when car returned ,one hour before the due time, company charged me out of my credit card because they just closed the time one hour and half later, holiday auto doesn't protect customers from overcharges or frauds beware!!! I paid holiday auto's for a weeks car hire in Portugal, when I got to the hire desk the times were wrong, despite being clearly printed on my hire voucher,the hire firm showed me the times holiday auto's had requested, I had to pay extra, a LOT extra, over £150 in addition to the quoted price (that holiday auto's had already taken in payment) I believe it would have been cheaper, in fact, no, I KNOW it would have been cheaper to go to any car hire place in Portugal instead of through... The last time i used this company was on a holiday to Portugal and when i went to pick up my car they had never heard of me and after many phone calls i found they had booked me with another car hire firm 5 mlies from the airportand the car they had for me was unsuitable so i had to upgrade at an extra cost to myself. It was more expensive than if it booked directly. Indian customer service is also appalling. They did not understand what I was saying. I was also quoted a lower price for extra cover at the time of booking which I discover when arrived to the distention. When came back I tried to complain about it within holiday autos but they did not see anything that they did wrong. last used this site to book a car while on holiday to Portugal but when i got to the airport the hire company had never heard of me and after 2 hours phoning back and forth to the uk i was given a car 5 miles from the airport that was too small and that had to upgrade at an extra cost to myself. later that year money was taken from my credit card account without my consent which after much toing and froing with my bank i have finaly been reimbursed. i will never use this site again and would try to disuade anyone else from using it.
