Car was first class. My only comment is similar to others I have read. I flew in on Easyjet who have a tie up with Europcar. So everyone was queueing for a Europcar vehicle. The other rental desks were empty. The lesson is if you are in a hurry and fly Easyjet, dont book Europcar! Otherwise Europcar is no problem at all. (read more)

The car rentals website is easy to use, very clear to understand, but there is one big issue/missmatch remaining - while booking you can indicate and submit one driver, but payment may be executed from anothers person credit card. That is fine until you finally come to car pick up office and they request that particularly driver would guarantee deposit of about 900eur with his credit card. The vehicle supplied was in a pristine condition and was a pleasure to drive. It was a Ford Focus hatch and whilst a small car by Australian standards it had more than enough space for our 2 large and 2 small cases whilst carrying 2 additional passengers . Car died on the third day when all the oil drained out. It was a long way from a National office in a fairly remote area. It took 1 1/4 hours on a borrowed landline phone as we were out of cell phone coverage, and a 4 hour delay before the car was towed and a replacement vehicle obtained. National service people were great and worked very hard to get it sorted as quickly as possible by working in with other rental car companies and local breakdown services. Only thing that I was not satisfied with was that I could not return car with full gas tank because I can not come on reserve back and use all gasoline in tank that I have payed for and also gas thank was not full when I took car and price for full tank was lower then charged because I filled car on gas pump and diference was around 15 €. We hired a Renault Kangoo for our holiday in Fuerteventura. We had to ask at a help desk in the airport where to take the shuttle bus from as the collection point was not actually at the airport (although this is what we booked for)and no instructions were on our booking. The booking actually said we would be met by a representative. After reviewing many deals on line, we found this to the cheapest but were hesitant because we didn't know the company we would be getting the vehicle from. The process of picking up the car, the cleanliness of the car, type of car requested, were all very good. The car was nearly new, it had only done 140 miles. However, whilst on holiday we filled up the almost empty tank with petrol for $30 but were charged $55 on our credit card to have the car tank full on collection. We booked a Citroen Berlingo or similar as we would be hiring bikes. But there were none of this type of vehicle left when we arrived at Palma so we were given the next class up for the same price. While this was a very nice car it was not nearly as practical for bikes. The on-line booking form had not allowed us to make the stipulation about bike transport so we cannot see how we could avoid a similar problem in the future. (read more)

No problems at all. Car was waiting for us. We paid extra(around €7 per day) - I think it was some sort of CDW but was not very well explained. We were able to return the car late at night and put the key through the letter box (saved us having to get up early the next morning to return the car) The price we paid seemed less that we would have paid locally. “Beware the "quarter tank" operators”

Any reputable care hire firm will hire cars with a full tank, and if you don't return it full you pay the difference. Of course with high fuel prices of course that is too simple for some, who provide a quarter tank so that they can pump out the excess when you return it. This is a great way for hire companies to make an extra £30 out of you. Rentalcars.com don't mind working with companies who do this, and don't give you any way to find out until you have paid. On first appearance the Citroen Kangoo appeared quite big and our expectations were not very high. How wrong we were. It turned out to be a great vehicle, very roomy but easy to drive and park. It looks a bit like a loaf of bread, very rectangular and not particularly aerodynamic. It had no problem taking the four of us around the South of France and up some steep and windy mountain roads. We booked a minibus from Cagliary airport in Sardinia. Everything went without a hitch - except the company which rentalcars.com had told us we were booking from had cancelled our booking. The staff at the desk are obviosly on a bonus to sell you extras.They put a vehicle recovery fee of about £50 on my bill without any conversation with me ,however I noticed this and had it taken off. The yound lady from Gold Car that issued us with the keys was very rude. As we were going to be hiring more than 1 vehicle this year with travelling around in our motorhome, the extra cost of the excess waiver insurance doubles the cost of the car hire, we decided the best thing to do was to take out an excess waiver insurance from home for a whole year, which actually works out cheaper for a year than the one off when you hire the car. We ended up leaving and going back to the airport to get a different rental car from wonderful National. Payless is horrible. Talk about hidden fees. The location of the Thrifty and Dollar lot is far from the airport. There is no Thrifty/Dollar office at the airport and no desk. You're on your own to figure it out. You will need to get a shuttle, and there are no signs indicating where to catch the suttle. It's a bit of a hassle. When you eventually find the unmarked bus stop, you will most likely wait about 1/2 hour for a shuttle to arrive and may need to call the company to let them know you're waiting (this has been the case for me 3... Arrived in France on a Bank Holiday and 2 of the 4 car hire desks were closed. Our desk was manned by an English girl who was very helpful indeed. She appreciated that one of our party was in a wheelchair and immediately upgraded our vehicle, and after talking a little more, she upgraded us again, and have to say this made my life so much easier for the duration of our trip. When picking up the car we had to wait for almost half an hour. This is bringing you in not a very good mood. When the lady at the desk then starts practising her course "how to sell an insurance policy" temper rises. Her main selling point was that the car was new and therefore it was best to buy an insurance that covers your own risk of eur 750,--. I hate these tricks. It was just about the perfect size for getting about France generally: any larger and it would have been too difficult to get around the narrow city streets and any smaller and it might have been unable to properly benefit from the autoroutes. I signed up for a rental car with insurance. I found out from Enterprise car rental the insurance was not with them and would not be sufficient. I tried to cancel less than 12 hours after reservation and was given the run around. Do not buy insurance associated with this site! TOTAL RIPOFF. No way to cancel or amend. (read more)
