The biggest mistake that rentalcars.com is making is that it is still offering GOLDCAR rentals. This spanish rentalcompany offers low rents but is very agressive in cashing in extra charges for insurrance. Moreover they have a weird and very expensive fuel policy; basically they make you buy a tank of petrol and charge 60% more then at the gasstation. Booked a Nissan Compact for pick up San Diego. Gentleman at Alamo said I really needed full size car for luggage and driving to Las vegas. I was dubious about his suggestion but decided to go with it for extra $12 a day. Glad I did as we did about 1000 miles in a Toyota Camry LE. Very comfortable and reliable. The car I rented was ok. I rented a GPS as well. This device was poorly functioning. The connection line to the device was either broken or had a loose contact. This forced me to stop twice on my way to San Rafael. The device switched off each time after 2 minutes so I had to reset it while I was driving. And on the highway you can not stop. I have just returned from a holiday in Tuscany and rented a car in advance of travelling with RentalCars.com (the booking was made in association with Jet2.com). On arrival at Pisa Airport the desk was unmanned and I had to make a telephone call to receive service. The car (Fiat 500) was filthy inside and out and I was unable to ascertain prior damage to the vehicle. Staff at check-in desk unhelpful & poor English. We were 'left to our own devices' to locate the car outside the station. due to the poor English of the staff, we had to go back twice until the chap did what he should have done in the first place, namely take (literally just 2 minutes) us to the car Car was fine - except absolutely dirty & dusty on outside. Economy car which turned out to be a very small pretty white Fiat. That's OK, but it was a very 'girly' car. I was driving, but my partner did say that he had been the named driver he would have refused to get in it. It did look like the sort of car that you would buy for a seventeen year old girl after she had just passed her test. I am 53 years old and felt a little embarrassed. Booked a Mondeo Estate ("or similar") for collection at Belfast Airport. Arrived to be told there was no Mondeo available (used to that) but that a similar car was ready for us. The "similar" car was nowhere near as big in size as the Mondeo and, were it not for the fact that one of our fishing party had pulled out at the last min, we would not have got ourselves and our gear/luggage in the car. Stress free hire car pick up! Not impossible. Have just experienced best ever hire car collection.Having again pre-booked online via Jet2 and having previously had to queue behind others who had not done so whilst they juggled papers,passports,credit cards etc. We were diverted from the interminal office by a charming representative to the carpark office where we received immediate attention and as a result were in our car and away within 10 minutes.How different from the holiday... Although the wait for the pickup at the airport took a little longer than expected, when we learnt that the driver had gone the extra mile to deliver a disabled and elderly passenger closer to where she needed to be, we were delighted that the staff were so considerate. The staffs are friendly, efficient and competent. Was expecting a WAJA but was given a Honda Civic to my surprise. Car is excellent. The only draw back was the holder for the GPS was missing and unable to mount it on the front windscreen. Also the map needs upgrading render it useless in some areas. At Gatwick, our car was upgraded to a Toyota Rav 4 with 11 miles on the clock. The car was exceptionally good in drivability and all other aspects. The Enterprize staff provided exceptionally good service in all respects. In our case there was no negative aspect to our car rental experience. I will start with what I did not like. They always try to push you to pay more and more insurances, give you a high amount to pay and then if you make yourself difficult they will come up with some reduction ("promotion of the day") just for you, because you are special. Such a pleasure to deal with Budget at Tampa Airport! Easiest rental I have ever dealt with in 20 years. No sales pressure to "upgrade", no sneering comments about "burst tyre/breakdown cover". Have already recommended them to family members. The offer of "take it away with a full tank, bring it back FULL" was much cheaper than the usual exhorbitant gas charge. Great car to drive, clean and comfortable. Despite me being unable to speak French, staff at the desk were helpful and pleasant, offering me maps and directions on how to leave the airport. Sadly when the airport was being designed, designers forgot it was an international airport and left directions on how to return the cars as useless. We were delighted with the service and the vehicle we had. We loved just being able to pick a car from a selection and returning the car with an empty tank is now a much better deal. The only reservation in the whole transaction was that breakdown cover is no longer included and that we had to pay extra for that peace of mind (even though it was a relatively new SUV and unlikely to go wrong). There were 4 staff at the desk but only 1 serving customers. There was 1 person being arced ahead of us and he took ages. He asked about if we wanted the car we booked or a brand new polo for €3 per day more we oped for that and then had to pay €82 for a tank of fuel. We took back the car with only half a tank used but they do not issue you with any refund! We used the car every day but it was impossible to use a full tank on just a 6 day holiday! I live in the UK and booked a car in the US through rentalcars.com. I have a US drivers licence, but no UK licence, and for that reason, I was unable to pick up the car under that booking. Rentalcars.com does not make this fact clear on their website. I used rentalcars.com to arrange a hire car from Pisa airport. Firefly were the selected provider. The car was a Fiat Panda 1.2 and proved reliable and economical for two of us for a week. The car had some minor scrapes and would have benefited from a full valet (seats were heavily stained). Everything was perfect, except one thing. RentalCars company must inform the clients in advance, that that insurance contract is only between the Customer and RentalCars Company. In case of any demadge the customer's responsiblity do exsist to the local rental company, and there is a refund possibility from RentalCars company. My only gripe was the sales assistant said she would be charging me £19 per day for insurance on top of what I had already paid to hire the car. The Budget rental office was opposite the airport building and the car was parked in the car park next to this, the staff were friendly and the paperwork was a breeze - no extra money/deposits were asked for - as has been our experience with other car rental firms in Austria. Car was first class. My only comment is similar to others I have read. I flew in on Easyjet who have a tie up with Europcar. So everyone was queueing for a Europcar vehicle. The other rental desks were empty. The lesson is if you are in a hurry and fly Easyjet, dont book Europcar! Otherwise Europcar is no problem at all. (read more)

The car rentals website is easy to use, very clear to understand, but there is one big issue/missmatch remaining - while booking you can indicate and submit one driver, but payment may be executed from anothers person credit card. That is fine until you finally come to car pick up office and they request that particularly driver would guarantee deposit of about 900eur with his credit card. The vehicle supplied was in a pristine condition and was a pleasure to drive. It was a Ford Focus hatch and whilst a small car by Australian standards it had more than enough space for our 2 large and 2 small cases whilst carrying 2 additional passengers . Car died on the third day when all the oil drained out. It was a long way from a National office in a fairly remote area. It took 1 1/4 hours on a borrowed landline phone as we were out of cell phone coverage, and a 4 hour delay before the car was towed and a replacement vehicle obtained. National service people were great and worked very hard to get it sorted as quickly as possible by working in with other rental car companies and local breakdown services. Only thing that I was not satisfied with was that I could not return car with full gas tank because I can not come on reserve back and use all gasoline in tank that I have payed for and also gas thank was not full when I took car and price for full tank was lower then charged because I filled car on gas pump and diference was around 15 €. We hired a Renault Kangoo for our holiday in Fuerteventura. We had to ask at a help desk in the airport where to take the shuttle bus from as the collection point was not actually at the airport (although this is what we booked for)and no instructions were on our booking. The booking actually said we would be met by a representative. A pity that it does not happen elsewhere, we waited in a queue for one and a half hours and then were told that the insurance rentalcars.com had sold to us was invalid. Ripped off. Try phoning Rentalcars.com, Impossible. Worst Hire Car experience I have ever had.
