We hired a car in Malaga. On our way to our destination, after ca 50 miles our car stopped. Within half an hour there was help and we brought back to Mslaga. My trip around the UK involved over 2500 miles of driving and so it was important that the rental car was comfortable as well as reliable. The VW Golf automatic was a great choice at a great price! The pick-up at Manchester Airport was very easy. However, if dropping off at London Heathrow Airport, be sure to allow a minimum of 45 mins due to the location of the rental car drop-off site and the courtesy bus return journey to the terminal. I use these guys as its simple, however be aware that the so called prices will RISE once you go to pick the car up, your need to pay for a full tank of diesel & never use it & get no refund, then the CDW must be topped up as otherwise your get battered with a massive bill in Spain & then have to claim it back once in the UK. Arrived at the address detailed on the paperwork to find a note on the door. Office has moved and was a 15 minute walk. This was probably why the phone was not answered on a number of attempts to change my pick up time. This company advertises free cancellation on their website and as their advert when you type them into an internet serch engine but will keep your deposit if you do cancel. When I enquired they disregarded all my questions and queries and only repeatedly wrote 'sorry for the inconvenience'. It is false advertising and illegal. (read more)

“Fantastic rental at a GREAT price”

We picked up our new 2013 Ford Escape in Las Vegas. We had reserved one but were given the option of choosing any of the vehicles that were there. No hassles. We were in and out in about 15 minutes. We drove from Las Vegas to Connecticut (we got married in Vegas and drove back for our honeymoon). No problems whatsoever. The car was great. I have a 2004 escape and after driving this we are really thinking that about an upgrade. The only negative...the $250 one way handling fee. (read more)

But, car hire including a full tank of fuel is unfair for most people , particularly if only a short break is involved, as generally less than a half a tank will be used. The car I got through RentalCars.com with their local partner Goldcar was nice and clean, brand new, and I had no problems. However if I book again I'll probably look at getting additional insurance through the original booking, instead of paying an extra 40euro at the airport. The major problem that most people are faced with now when hiring a car is the full-empty fuel surcharge policy. 82euro was the extra surcharge, and in reality I used about 20euro's worth of fuel. Good service overall, but give yourself time! To be fair, some of the problems were more to do with the airport! There is two of everything - one Swiss, one French. We rented from the French "side" of the airport - because we were travelling into France - but it was not obvious from the airport signage , so we ended up at the Swiss car rental section. For the seventh consecutive rental "experience", we arrived at a USA airport only to be told that the car we reserved was not available. We got instead an "or similar" car, which was not really very similar at all. This has become a real irritant. Also, at San Francisco airport, the monorail ride to the car rental building is quite lengthy -- not the rental companies' fault but added to our frustration. The biggest mistake that rentalcars.com is making is that it is still offering GOLDCAR rentals. This spanish rentalcompany offers low rents but is very agressive in cashing in extra charges for insurrance. Moreover they have a weird and very expensive fuel policy; basically they make you buy a tank of petrol and charge 60% more then at the gasstation. Booked a Nissan Compact for pick up San Diego. Gentleman at Alamo said I really needed full size car for luggage and driving to Las vegas. The car I rented was ok. I rented a GPS as well. This device was poorly functioning. The connection line to the device was either broken or had a loose contact. This forced me to stop twice on my way to San Rafael. The device switched off each time after 2 minutes so I had to reset it while I was driving. And on the highway you can not stop. They always try to push you to pay more and more insurances, give you a high amount to pay and then if you make yourself difficult they will come up with some reduction ("promotion of the day") just for you, because you are special. A pity that it does not happen elsewhere, we waited in a queue for one and a half hours and then were told that the insurance rentalcars.com had sold to us was invalid. Ripped off. Try phoning Rentalcars.com, Impossible. Worst Hire Car experience I have ever had.
