Good Points: Good cut, easy to operate, internal bag, absolutely unbreakable.
Bad Points: Adjustment for cut height can catch when cutting near walls.
General comments: The Flymo Power Compact 400 is the best mower I have ever owned. Left out all winter and still works fine. Good cut and easy to empty.

Regret buying the Flymo Power Compact - now scrapped afer just 4 years of light use! Clogs in all grasses whether wet or dry seems to be due to lack of clearance for exiting grass. Poor grassbox vacuum mechanism does not work.

No complaints what so ever. Just plug in and point at the lawn and it does every thing I ask no matter how tough.

I thought that the problem might be that my wife was getting old but the problems she has are the same as listed here. Does not cut well at all We were considering a 3400 but after seeing the flymo reviews and experience of them, I think we will pass on that one.

Useless performance is completely clogged up after half a stripe. Idea of vaccuuming grass from lower cutters simply does not work. I dont know if mower will fall apart or vibrate itself to death despite having a new blade fitted and the motor balanced by local dealer this mower. I have complained to Flymo Electrolux but they are indiferent. Have they ever tried to cut a lawn with one of their rubbish machines?

We bought the Flymo Power Compact 400 lawn mower in 2000, as we moved into a house with a bigger lawn, where the old 30 cm wide lawn mower was getting a bit tedious. The PC 400 seemed powerful, and looked different from all the other lawnmowers. Pricewise it was more like a premium electric mower...
Within the first year we had all sorts of problems with breaking switches, increasing vibrations, handles falling off, and the mower would not like cutting high or wet / damp grass.
The warrant ...

Worst mower I've bought, and with the shortest life, just 9 months. 1. Height adjustment lever snapped off, no replacement available, therefore mower useless as it then sits on the floor.
2. Too may plastic chambers inside that just collect clumps of mown grass, and it's very difficult to clean.
3. Clear plastic cover got scratched the first time I used it, and just got worse.

The Flymo Power Compact 400 was my second lawn mower of this type. The first mowers motor burned out. Luckily, it was only ten months old and the store replaced it. Unfortunately, they replaced it with the same model. Ten months later the height adjuster on the replacement failed.
This time I have replaced it with a Bosch, and I have had no problems so far.
Flymo's are badly designed and flimsy materials are used, so they don't seem to last for very long!

Electrolux say the Flymo Power Compact 400 Lawn Mower was designed for lowest cut of 20mm for 'safety reasons'. I just think, despite it's looks, the machine is bady designed. Although I bought the machine at a bargain price last Autumn (04) it does not perform anything like my previous mower, a Mountfield Princess. It can also be difficult to push at the lowest setting. Electrolux say I should complain to the retailer if dissatisfied as per Sale of Goods Act.

If one has a lawn like a bowling green then it might be possible to use the Flymo Power Compact 400 on a low cut without gouging up the turf. The Flymo is heavy and unwieldy and does not give a good cut. It quickly clogs up, which substantially increases the time taken to perform routine grass cutting. On my next lawn cutting, I borrowed another lawnmower [of different make but comparable price] from a friend. The difference was staggering! No problems there.

Do not, under any circumstances, buy Flymo Power Compact 400. They are useless.
The main problem is that they are very difficult to push. My wife, who is a perfectly healthy woman in her mid-40's, can not use this mower.
Another daft thing about this mower is the way in which the grass accumulates in the box from underneath. The theory is that the grass gets compacted in the box and won't fall out when you pick it up to empty it. Not true.
The height adjuster is near impossible to ...
