I've operated a business account with Alliance & Leicester for only 3 months now. The whole account opening procedure was a real pain & took over a month to complete. Once open the Internet Banking facility did not operate & I was unable to make payments online, Great.

The account has operated in credit to the tune of oner £50,000.00 and has no borrowing, yet A&L wrote to me two weeks ago to advise me that as part of a business review they are to close my account!! Why??? No explanation, the account has operated PERFECTLY. I've since spoken to another high street bank who are happy to have my business. I would NEVER NEVER EVER use Alliance & Leicester again nor recommend them to anyone.

Started to struggle with repaying my overdraft so arranged a payment plan with this lot. The amount I was paying meant the payment period was too long to be dealt with by one department, and as such would be passed on to another recovery team. What they didn't say was that I would be charged for this privilege - ended up being charged the equivalent of two months repayments. Still waiting for a representative to tell me where in the terms and conditions this is stipulated. Thanks for your he ...

    Appauling

    Account never went overdrawn.
A&L charged me £80 in fees regardless.
Customers services was a joke, no option to speak to anyone in authority, just the same old people who can't help you.

Will never ever use them (or santander) again.

Alliance & Leicester get 0/10. However, if what you're looking for is a bank that will screw you over by unfairly charging you and has a poor customer service then this is the one for you. Good luck!

I never really had any problems with Alliance & Leicester until I tried to close my account. Their terms and conditions said I was to be charged £5 per month if I didn't pay in a minimum of £500 every month so I decided, since I had no need to pay in that amount of money, that I would close it.

Maybe I've just been unlucky but whenever I've phoned up Alliance and Leicester I find their call centre staff quite patronising and rude and this time was no exception. Once I'd asked to c ...

I hate alliance and leicester. I must pay £100 in charges per month because payments in are not accepted instantly. If a payment is made out of the account and i then put money in out of my business account i still get charged! Everything takes an age and i have so many numbers to remember if might need to transfer some money in a few days. My girlfriend also has an alliance and leicester account and if i transfer anything over £250 to her it takes three days!!! you can only make o ...

Wakefiel Branch West Yorkshire has to be the worst bank on the planet for customer relations. We are treated like dog turds under youe feet!
The branch seems to be staffed by insolent 12 yr olds who do not care or cannot be arsed to help customers.
My blind 92 year old mother who has the misfortune to have a current account with A&L and has been in a care home for the last 12 months still has statements, replaement cards etc sent to her old address(now reoccupied) despite change of address form ...

We have been with Alliance And Leicester since 1974 when it was girobank, it used to be great could not fault it, but now it makes my blood boil. I get upset at the thought of phoning to even get a balance on the account having being locked out so many times after using pin numbers sent by them to me and then being told they are invalid. I wish they would get their act together. We never had any trouble till this latest takeover. I suppose its called progress! would have reccomended in passed bu ...

This is my experience as attorney for my mother's account. Setting up power of attorney with them was a challenge in itself and took me about 6 months. You would think that sending one copy of the power to their legal department would be enough to give power over all my mother's accounts, but they wanted a separate copy for each account. If I had had to make a choice of bank, it would not have been this one

I have been a customer of A & L since Girobank days and too be honest, I have had enough! The staff are very rude, not very pleasant and their customer service is more like dis-service! How on earth they are managing to stay in business is beyond me?

You can use the Post Office to pay in & take out money which is handy if your miles from an A & L Branch, but with all the Post Office Closures even that could be tricky.

Online banking.... 3days behind! Transaction always anything between 24 to 72 hours + after they have been made, on your statement. Statements / Online banking you can never get an accurate up to date account balance, you always need a pen, paper and calculator, they have account balance, running balance and available balance!

Speaking to someone on the phone..... bit like on line banking haven't got a clue!

I would not recommend anyone opening an account with A&L. If you have a problem its difficult to get help. It's a cheap and cheerful business with cheap and cheerful service quality. I am closing all the accounts I have with them when the interest on my savings matures.

The Alliance & Leicester bank has to improve their service facility to its customers. They have an internet banking but customers couldn't email then because they don't use an email facility.

I've got a Premier Account with Alliance & Leicester which I opened due to the benefits on offer for anyone paying in more than a certain amount each month. I get free travel insurance for me and my partner, a free overdraft facility (up to £1500) for 1 year followed by the lowest overdraft rate on the high street now and an excellent rate for savings. I was very pleased with the service I received from them when I swapped my account from another supplier, as they moved all my direct debit ...

They lose or "do not receive" letters with frightening regularity. Be extremely cautious when dealing with Alliance & Leicester Bank.

I transferred my cash ISA to an Alliance & Leicester branch when I found them on the highest rate table, but their interest rate dropped, even before the fund was actually transferred. I have stayed with them (with more than one account) for over a year now, and nothing has got better, but it is in fact getting worse. Their on-line website is the worst of all, and their customer services is a complete nightmare.

I have been an Alliance & Leicester customer for five years with all my earnings paid into my account. They would give me a loan for up to £10,000, but when it came to asking for an overdraft for a couple of days - no deal. Pathetic! And the so-called customer service line is hopeless.

The staff at my local branch in Dumfries are friendly, but they have no powers to do anything.

I had a £25 charge for a £10 standing order which was coming from my Alliance & Leicester current account into my savings account. I paid money in at 9:30am, but they have told me it should have been in the day before. I am not entitled to a refund they said.
