I think the Philips DTR500 is awful. Signal sensitivity laughable, unstable, switches itself on/off all the time, menus and EPG one of the worst I saw. This one should be avoided even if it was free. Paying money for it is STUPID.

Easy set-up was easy, but using the Philips DTR500 box was a pain in the neck.
The menus are complicated - recording a program is worse than using a primitive VCR - every step needs manual input, and I have not yet mastered the art of recording TWO programs.
The box sometimes ignores commands from the remote control. I don't trust it. I don't like it. I am returning it as unfit for the purpose.
Gettimg a Sony box instead.
