The Sony RDR GX210S could be the worst dvd machine in the market. DO NOT BUY IT!!! After less than a year normal use, the recorder stop reading the disc showing the usual for this machine message "cannot read the disc". Even after a repair by Sony the problem came back.

Typically just after the guarantee ran out it packed up completely. It's always had issues with freezing. Switching off and back on would solve it but not this time. It died with the drawer half open. It's really put me off the brand name thing as the Phillips I got to replace it was half the price and I've instantly warmed to it. Me and the Sony just never got on...

I have the following Sony equipment in my house: video recorder, DVD camcorder, DVD player and TV. All these have lived up to what I would expect from Sony. However I am going out today to purchase a new DVD recorder and it will not be a Sony - what more can I say!
(message to Sony: the Sony RDR GX210S machines have been of such poor quality you could have recalled and replaced them and gained some good publicity)

I wish I'd seen these reviews before the warranty ran out 8 months ago on my Sony DVD Recorder RDR-GX210s! It was working find when I was using +R/RW discs, but shortly after using -R discs it decided that it "Cannot play this disc" or any disc. I'm so disappointed with Sony that I've even cancelled the order on my Sony laptop and will definitely be replacing this DVD recorder with a non Sony one!

My Sony RDR GX210S has broken down after less than two years with a repair bill of 165. Sony are not interested in contributing to this cost. I feel a DVD recorder should work for more than the 23 months mine did.

I just wish I had seen these reviews of this Sony DVD Recorder RDR-GX210 unit sooner because its been a total dog. In the past the unit has frozen when watching discs which I put down to a dodgy disc though it would seem that this is not an isolated case. Now the unit refuses to play or record discs with the words "Cannot play Disc", it locks up completely and the only way to restart it is to pull the plug out of the mains. The build quality is what I would expect from a bottom end unbranded com ...

Ok, where do I start with this drive. If you bought one, you are very unlucky, if you're thinking of buying one DON'T. I'm sorry Sony but thanks to this drive it certainly lost you at least one PS3 sale in the UK (after seeing the quality of this drive I went for an X-Box 360 instead - made worse by the delay of the PS3 in Europe by Sony's incompetent planning).

When I got the drive home at first it worked pretty well and I was quite happy I'd got a Sony drive. When deciding on the DVD writer ...

The good thing was when I returned the Sony RDR GX210S to Argos, I was given the full refund no quibble.

I looked-up net for any solutions and was horrified to find this a known and very common fault with this Sony machine. There is no quick fix so should you be met with 'CANNOT PLAY THIS DISC' over and over, simply curse your bad luck, bucket the thing and go look for another one. I have contacted Sony UK but let's face it,look at reviews elsewhere and you'll get the picture...or not!(pardon the pun)

Digital Direct supplied the unit, and they were very unhelpful. They have no customer care and just want to sell the units and not deal with any problems. They actually threatened to charge me if I sent the Sony RDR GX210S DVD recorder back to them again, even though it was still faulty, which did what it was intended to - made me give up.

The Sony RDR GX210S was the worst product we have ever had from Sony. The first machine broke down after 3 months, would not play any disc. This machine was replaced with another one, only to find 3 months down the line the same thing happened, this was repaired but cost more than the machine was worth. Then guess what!!! It broke down again. Same Fault. I will be buying a different brand now.

Given the reviews I have read here and elsewhere, I think I can safely conclude that the Sony RDR GX210S machine cannot be repaired, and frankly, even if it can, it'll probably cost more than replacing it with a more reliable brand. I am extremely irritated at having paid £300 for what is now effectively a glorified CD player.

This will be my very last purchase of Sony products, as it is not the first time I have bought an overpriced product from Sony which has mysteriously quit on me ...

the Sony RDR GX210S is a great looking recorder at an attractive price, sturdy construction. Fully loaded with numerous ports on the back, so you can connect a whole host of other units to the recorder. Very easy to use with an intuitive menu, programming the timer took seconds. This could have been a fantastic recorder, so what is wrong with it?

It is built by LG for Sony, I rest my case! I have owned 4 of these in as many months, everyone of them had similar problems. They would freeze and ...

The Sony RDR GX210S DVD recorder looked lovely, and it seemed to meet all my needs.

Easy connection to the home cinema system, nice menu layout, good picture quality.

But, having connected the system up with the freeview box going into the second scart, there was massive sound feedback when the DVD and TV were on, but the freeview box was off. It was OK if I remembered to shut things down in a planned order, but unbearable if I switched the freeview box off first. No improvements when swit ...

The Sony RDR GX210S has a good picture when it is connected with a good quality scart lead. It constantly freezes during play of any disc, even discs it has previously recorded! It has now been returned!

I purchased the Sony RDR GX210S DVD recorder from Kays in August last year. It failed at the beginning of the new year, and it refused to accept any discs. Kays informed me I had to wait a week for the DVD recorder to be collected by their repairers. I waited a further 3 weeks, and the machine was returned as not being a viable proposition for repair. I told Kays and they said they would contact me in 3 days as to when they would pick the machine up. I have now been without it for 5 weeks.

    I ...

The Sony RDR GX210S is a good DVD recorder considering the low price. Don't use the extended rec modes, as they are noisy and ragged. The two higher modes are fine. It has good Dolby/DTS audio. The main caveat is the RGB picture on the Scart, as it suffers from prominent ghosting and is best avoided. Newer models do not suffer from this, as Sony fixed it after complaints.

Many problems with the Sony RDR GX210S . Will not shut off have to pull mains plug out of socket. Date and time advance 5 years overnight. Timer record once programme has finished will not power off. When trying to close disk draw with disc inside it rejects disk and draw opens by itself. This is my 2nd machine in 3 months and Sony will no give me my money back. My Father's machine is in for repair as I write this review. 3 FAULTY machines in less than 5 months.
