Good Points: Great all round car plus you get a car with alot of grunt and if driven normal you can get over 30 mpg in town and over 60 mpg on the motorways!!

Bad Points: VW labour costs can be a joke and if not looked after (as in not serviced well) the car will suffer.

General comments: Awesome car, i have the Volkswagen Golf gt tdi 150 in 3 door this is the fastest tdi golf in mk4 it does 0-60 in 8.6 seconds and iv had mine at (70mph + 68mph) shhh the 3 door car i lighter than the 5 door and you can tell in the corners iv lowered mine by 60mm on the standard 16 inch wheels and it handles like a go-cart now still a little bit heavy but nothing a bit of throttle cant sort out as for the boot its huge i have suds in it and i can still fit a full weeks shopping in there the back seats of the car in the 3 door is a bit tight but with the aid of the front seat set-up as in the way they tilt forward its easy to get in my gran can get in and out no probs and she is almost 70! if you have kids you are always better to get a 5 door as you don't need power what you do need is an easy way to get kids out if you are in a crash which would be alot easier in a 5 door but as the golf is such a solid and safe car with all its air bags and side impact bars there is not worries. as for reliability i used to work for VW and found them to be very reliable but if not looked after (as in not serviced well) the car will suffer. as for part costs there not to bad its the garage labour costs that are the killer also second hand parts are so easy and cheap. Great all round car plus you get a car with alot of grunt and if driven normal you can get over 30 mpg in town and over 60 mpg on the motorways!!

The VW Golf TDi is a great car, would definitely not hesitate to buy one - just make sure it's the right one....it will come along if you're patient!

Was expensive new, but held its value very well when sold after 5 years and 70,000 miles. Only had one problem in that time (hose fastener on turbo pipe) and that was at 69,000. Regularly did over 50mpg. Really enjoyed driving it even after five years with it.

Volkswagen Golf Tdi GT PD 115bhp Review
Good spec on GT models. Not much goes wrong with these cars as long as they are maintained well. My car had done over 106000 miles without any problems.
6 speed version is much better than the 110bhp 5 speed model. There are 3 versions of the PD engine 115bhp, 130bhp & 150bhp. All have the same engine, power on the 130 & 150bhp comes from ECU configuration. 115bhp & 130bhp have red Di badges and the 150bhp model have the TDI in red.
