I have adopted two cats from Millstream, one just before Christmas 2010, one in March of this year, and I was delighted at the set up of the place. The cats have plenty of room to roam free and are all clean and well cared for. When you approach, the whole set up doesn't look too special but when you get in, you can see how the cats really own and rule the place and the human assistants are just there to cater to their every need. The assistants get to know every cat personally and can tell... (read more)

We adopted a dog called Jenny from here 11 years ago - best thing we ever did. Fantastic people, very friendly and helpful and we had no regrets at any time about the dog we chose. We were advised well and this helped us with the choice of dog - and it worked. Unfortunately we have just had to have Jenny put down because of cancer, however, if and when we ever need another dog Millstream will be our first choice. (read more)

Unfortunatley we have found ourselves back there a little prematurely as the last beautiful cat we got from Millstream unfortunately got hit and killed by a car. I was a bit concerned that if I asked Millstream if we could adopt another cat, we might be refused as they may have thought we didnt do a good enough job caring for the one we lost, however they were really lovely and said these things happen. I wanted an indoor cat this time round, and as luck would have it there happened to be... (read more)

I got a cat from here around two months ago. Staff really helpful showed us around and asked us about our background information so they could find a cat that suited us. We ended up with a perfect cat and because it was six months old the staff were able to identify the personality so it matched us. The staff took pride in their work and the shelter was large and open so the cats were free to roam. Animals were treated really well as were the visitors. (read more)

I adopted my 18 month old (now 19 month!) cat from Millstream in the middle of December 2010 - she has been with me for 6 weeks now and is a fantastic companion, brave and affectionate and brilliant company.
The lady who runs Millstream showed me round and pointed me in the right direction for a cat that would suit me - she could not have been any lovelier, and clearly had masses of affection for the cats I was shown.
Millstream, despite having limited funds, is an incredibly warm and...

I dropped off some cat food recently and asked why the dogs weren't on show. There is a live video link to the kennels to prevent the dogs becoming distressed by constant streams of strangers visiting. If you want a dog, the staff will discuss the type of dog you would like and then bring potential dogs to a quiet area so you can meet them. You won't hear dogs barking at Millstream because staff coordinate arrangements carefully to minimise distress to the animals. The animals' welfare is... (read more)

The staff at Millstream work very hard to care for the animals they have and to take in any strays they can that come their way and find GOOD homes that are SUITABLE for their animals. The welfare of the animals are the main concern and priority. They do an excellent job! Well Done and Thankyou Millstream!! (read more)

We bought a kitten at the weekend. I found some of the staff friendly, but some a little abrupt. We were sold the kitten thinking there were no problems, because we were not told about any. However as soon as we brought him home we realised he had the runs. By Monday we had him at the vets. He is seriously underweight and dehydrated. He has had cat flu at some time and should not have been given worming tablets because he is underweight!!
The women that work at the shelter profess to know...

At Millstream, I was shown around by a very pleasant lady and chose a very nice cat. The staff were very helpful and even phoned a taxi for me to get home with the new cat.
This is the second cat I've had from Millstream and on both my visits there I was impressed by the facilities and by the dedication of the staff. They are very caring people doing excellent work in re-homing abandoned animals.

i found millstream staff most unhelpful on both occasions i visited, i got a general feeling of un welcomeness, i didnt actually get to see any dogs as they had stopped viewing of animals as it was stressing them out? so how can you judge a dogs behaviour if you cant see them? i found tameside animal shelter in hyde spectacular the staff were amazing and there love for animals shone through would thouroughly reccomend them instead (read more)

Millstream do a great job, not only do they rehome animals, at minimal cost to the adoptive family but they provide a loving home for animals that would otherwise be left to fend for themselves or else not be given a chance at all. When we visited the centre I loved that it was all about the animals and that the house had totally been given over to 'long stay residents' who lounged on every available surface. We love our 2 cats from millstream and they both have really relaxed friendly,... (read more)
