I recently homed a kitten from the shelter.when my husband and i first went to visit the shelter we were greeted with a warm friendly manner.we were taken to where the kittens are kept.Grace(the grey kitten) was only a week old at the time and we were able to reserve her until she was able to leave her mother. For seven weeks we were encouraged to go in and visit her as often as we liked. She is an absolute joy(although very cheeky) and we all adore her.I would like to say a big thankyou to the staff at the shelter who always made us feel welcome and thankyou for looking after little Grace.I would encourage anybody looking for a pet to visit the shelter. They are doing a brilliant job and there are many other cats/dogs looking for their forever homes.

I have recently (December 2009) adopted a dog from Tameside Animal Shelter (TAS). At all times the staff were considerate and helpful, their main interest being the welfare of the animal. Anyone who criticises this establishment ought to think very carefully about why it is there and how it manages to do what it does. It does not receive any funding from government, local or national and is entirely reliant on the goodwill of its patrons.
I have previously adopted rescue dogs from Battersea an ...- Read Guest's review (204 words)

I went to Tameside Animal Shelter Hyde (August 2009) to look for a family cat, When I arrived we were taken to the cat area. I was surprised when I saw a wooden caravan kind of building, when we went inside the heat was unbearable and there were flies everywhere. There was lots of cats in tiny cages and there was hardly anyone changing the litter trays or supplying the cats with fresh food or water. There was a cat actually panting like a dog. The worker asked us what cat we wanted so we looked ...- Read Guest's review (266 words)

I am surprised by the couple of bad comments about the shelter, though unfortunately this does happen sometimes.
My experience is that without the care and attention from the staff, where would these poor animals be? I find the cats are kept in very clean conditions. Who wouldn't like them all to be in upper class luxury, but this is not possible.
I try to take the cats some food and cat litter when I am able, and provide something for the fair.
I applaud these people who give up their spare ...- Read Guest's review (142 words)

I bought my dog from here, a springer spaniel, I knew he had problems but he was wrongly assessed, but said they can offer a behaviourist if I had any problems.
I found he had brown teeth and matted hair under his ears when I got home. A lovely dog until he turned on me for no apparent reason. I took the dog back, I had him 3 months. I went back the day after for him as I had arranged obedience training and vet appointment, I wanted their behaviourist too. I was extremely shocked to find that t ...- Read Guest's review (210 words)

I wanted to adopt a cat having retired and living on my own. So I visited the Tameside animal shelter 2 years ago now and choose a female cat called Puddles(renamed Blossom). She was very loving and friendly and I knew instantly we would get on alright. She had been in a road accident some time in her life and lost her tail but that didnt seem to bother either of us. Took a couple of days to adjust to a new home and possibly new food but 2 years on and she is happy in the fields where I live and ...- Read Blossom2007's review (146 words)

I dropped a found puppy off at tameside animal shelter, they staff were wonderful and the caring nature was obvious.
They arranged for me to drop off outside of office hours and were pleasant when I phoned late at night to check she was settled before going to bed.
Everything about the sanctuary seems excellent- Read Guest's review (55 words)

We adopted our 3 year old Ginger tom Bertie (was Bonnie) in Nov 2008 and now we couldn't imagine life without him. We previously had 2 tortie and white females who lived until19 years of age, then adopted a beautiful silver grey tom aged 16 years whose owners were going to live abroad. Leonard lived for another 3 years before we lost him to cancer. You will understand then why Bertie is such a treasure to us. He had been in the Tameside Animal Shelter for some time before coming to us and ther ...- Read Brenmar's review (142 words and 1 comment)

donated to the Tameside Animal Shelter before then thought as they were struggling with the amount of cats, why not go and see for myself.I nearly cried for these cats. All being very well looked after with their own space unless they came together as a few were from people who had lost their homes.I decided to have one and was informed of every cats details and background as we walked round.I was left then to make a decision on my own and in own time.I have had the cat 6wks,hes 4,and would'nt be ...- Read benideb's review (123 words)

Tameside Animal Shelter is a fantastic place to go if you are looking for a cat, mine died last year and all of them are neutered and the place is squeaky clean - its the first shelter I have been to where you cant even smell a cat yet there are so many. Great group of people, happy place and the lady who started it is so caring, she will take cats in when everyone else says no. I am starting to give to them each month in apreciation of the job they are doing. Well done everyone, tameside has n ...- Read cats whiskers's review (118 words)

After the death of my 19 year old cat in 2006 we visited Tameside Animal Shelter and found a beautiful ginger tom kitten. The staff were very helpful and gave us plenty of time on our own to view the animals and make our choice which was brilliant and im glad i did so, as our cat Dobbie is now a healthy but mad 2year old.- Read Jackie McFarlane's review (80 words)

Arranged to attend the shelter but had a wasted journey. Nobody was around when I arrived, despite the 'reception' being open yet unstaffed. Spent 15 minutes waiting and could stand the stench of urine and howling dogs no longer.- Read rescue's review (51 words)

i went to Tameside Animal Shelter looking for a 2nd dog around 2 and a half years ago now and found one of the best dogs i have ever had, sumo is a japanese akita, he is so loving and caring i would not be without him, the staff were fantastic and knew alot about all the animals (their behaviour and character) and from looking around i could see maybe the shelter wasn't as new as some places but the standard of care and love the staff put in to the animals is outstanding. Tameside Animal Shelter meets my expectations, but can improve on some points in my opinion. I suggest visiting the shelter, but remember to have some other choices of shelters to adopt your animal from, just to be on the safe side. If you see an animal you like, ask if you can take a look at it first.
Overall a brilliant place to adopt a pet!- Read Guest's review (100 words)
