This insurance is not like dealing with M&S, as you have to go through an AXA call centre, Cunningham and Lindsay and Loss Adjusters, none of which gave me the M&S experience I have in stores. I was made to feel like I was a liar the whole way though and I have to fight each day with stressful emails and phone calls to try and prove that my claim is valid. You keep being told, 'just because you pay insurance does not mean we have to pay out'. Plus you get put through to so many different... (read more)

recenty had my mountain bike and bag stolen. The bag a had my phone, wallet, watch and gym kit in it. The Claims handler couldn't have been worse! I know they have to ask questions but she made me feel awful. The way she questioned me about the smallest things like asking me to discribe the socks in my bag, where did I get them and did I have a receipt. The police dealt with it better than she did. She made me out to be a liar telling me she had difficulty understating the way in which I had... (read more)

m and s being a house hold brand I thought yes i will insure with them a little more expensive than the others but a brand name nether the less. Worst decision ever I had an accident on the stairs dropped the laptop and video camera and they broke. After a phone call to start the ball rolling I was told id recieve another of a claims handler. After an hour on the phone i am told it seems unusual for both things to break and I need to provide reports and pictures. This i dont have a problem... (read more)

I had reason to contact the Legal department out of my M & S Home Insurance Legal Cover because I had been Unfairly Dismissed from my employment. My first point of call was a Barrister (nice guy) who said I did seem to have a case and referred me to the claims department. After making a claim, I was referred to a 'solicitor' who after reading my papers told me that I did not have a claim. I know little about legal matters but I knew enough to know that my case was genuine - so I went ahead... (read more)

Husband's laptop was damaged so we started the ball rolling to make a claim. 7 weeks later & claim still hasn't been finalised. Claim handler is very rude, very unhelpful and does not have the courtesy to acknowledge when she receives requested items. M&S may look good on paper but when it comes to making a claim are truly awful. Will never use them again & will be advising family & friends to steer well clear too. (read more)

Having taken out Premium cover with M&S I expected Premium service. What I got was a catalogue of errors, extremely poor service and when I tried to make a claim it just got worse. I wrote to Head of Customer Service 2 months ago by recorded delivery and not yet had my letter acknowledged despite 2 chasing letters. (read more)

It's not nice to write a negative review but to be honest one must writ ethe truth.
I purchased M&S home insurance contents and Buildings for my home.
The policy arrived and having read through the document was statred a clause.
As I have a alarm I was told I must ensure the alarm is on when I go to bed each night.
Somthing I never do (not sure if people actauly do this or not).
I can understand I get a discount on my premium as I have an alarm and must ensure it is on when the property...

I took Premium insurance from M&S and pays £45.00 each month. Last week I had a water leakage in the shower room and contacted M&S emergency help line for the same. They refused to fix is saying that you have got another bathroom to use and we will not cover it.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy M&S home insurance

Policy was missold, no survey of storm damage, assesment made of damage without survey, assesor quantified the roof tiles missing from ground level! didnt allow for health and saftey required scaffold.
Marks and Spencer use this device to reduce payments on claims. They then make it very difficult to contact to resolve. I was told it was the customers duty to provide health and safety for the 'surveyor'. I was told the roof was old and needed repairing...roof is less than 3 years...

I encountered exactly the same with TESCO FINEST insurance. We lost roof tiles in the winter storms, called the insurance who sent out an assessor but without even going up to the roof (simply looking at from the drive) he deamed that there was frost damage to the corner tiles ! It wasn't obvious where the missing tiles had come from but we aould only be covered if our roof was new ! Why shoud we buy a new roof if there is no problem with the one we have - we have no leaks or anything..! We could pay for our own roofer to asses any damage but that wuldn't guarentee Tesco would do anything about it or refund us.
I now find out that tesco put in a £100 claim for their assessor to come out which has cancelled my no-claims - BUT WE WEREN'T ABLE TO MAKE A CLAIM !!! They assured me last week thay would cancel this but as yet they haven't and I can't get a decent quote from elsewhere !!

Made a claim on 04 Sunday July 2010, after dropping my new mobile phone (Dell streak) on the floor and breaking the screen, by 09.30am Wednesday 7th July, it was all sorted. Payment in the post. I have M & S Premier Contents cover, well worth every penny. English call centers with 0800 number, No paper work to fill out all done over the phone. I would recommend M & S Premier Home insurance 100%. Will look at using M & S for car insurance now. (read more)

Sad though it seems we had to make a claim on our home insurance we had a small leak (i.e. a pin prink the ash felt) in our roof and this caused the plaster board in the bed room ceiling to fall the hole was all of 6x12 ". Having had to pay for our own repair to the roof apparently we never had this covered, we felt confident that M&S would be paying for the bedroom ceiling repair, after all they advised us to get the roof covered in tar pooling to prevent further damage as this could... Marks and Spencer Home Insurance does not provide new for old & will charge you excess on each claim, A bottle of coke leaked in my handbag and ruined both my sons and my own mobile phone, they charged 2 x policy excesses. I had to jump throught hoops to claim and it took ages TRAVEL INSURANCE...Appalling claims service............May be cheaper than the competition but you get what you pay for. The M&S reputation does not extend to their travel policies. (read more)

I used M&S for two years, I was very happy with them until the disgusting way they sent my renewal forms! So I called to complain and cancel the policy. Ten days later money was debited from my account, When I called to ask why they had taken money after I had cancelled they said that I have not called them to complain or cancel the policy!!! They apologies and informed me my money would be returned within 24hrs. I am now on day 4 (and phone call five) still no refund? NEVER AGAIN.... (read more)

Sadly for M&S home insurance I have had to make two claims in less than a year with them. But have since been so impressed with them that we have moved all insurance to be with them. M&S really gives peace of mind - they certainly don't try to mislead you like other Insurance companies.
We had a robbery whilst on holiday in Portugal. Our Tesco Travel Insurance refused to pay out for any valuable items, M&S informed me that all those items were covered in their "Valuables away from home"...

My Marks and Spencer Home Insurance premium started at £443.42 in August 2001, now they'd like to renew it for £678.33, which is an increase of £234.91 in five years, which is more than a 50% increase. How do they justify it? They are unable to give me an answer. My circumstances have been the same. The contents of my house is the same. I have yet to make a claim, but I am expected to pay an extra £85.15 for the next year, which is a modest increase of nearly 15%. Now that's not what I call... (read more)

Mine also increased substantially year after year despite no claims made. The online quotes are much cheaper than you are quoted at renewal because apparently online is only for "New" customers. So they told me to cancel my existing policy and take out the new policy online to get the cheaper price...

I have just read your comment I am totally shocked. My Marks and Spencer home insurance and contents insurance runs out next week and my new quote is £15 less than last year at £256 for both for the year. And although I did not make a claim I did use the free Legal advice when I incurred a problem affecting my home with the local council.

That said I will advice that every year no matter what insurance policy you have always shop around - at the end of the day it does not always pay to be loyal.
