They did this in the US!!! How could they be allowed by the government to do the same thing in a different country? How is this right? Enough of you should get a lawyer and file a Case. This should not be legal!

I phoned First Plus to see why there interest rate was going up at the same time as the bank rate was going down just to be informed that they didn't have to give the Bank of England rate they can work to the LIBOR rate or what ever gives them the biggest profit, I feel ripped off big time as my agreement was on a variable interest rate or as I understood it to be

If you have a local loan shark use this avenue before going to First Plus, interest rates will probably be lower. Whilst they might not send round the heavies, they will certainly give you a good kicking Asked for a redemption figure over the phone got told 26,236.86 when i got the letter a few days later it was 26,845.12 and this was with 3678.59 rebate on eary settlement. The sooner this company goes under the better

As a consumer I was sold a policy by First Plus that was not to the full term of the loan (mortgage protection loan) My husband suffers from multiple health conditions now and I'm devastated. I stand a chance to loose the house because I cannot meet my finanical obligations as I can't claim anymore and to top it all off, these people have taken my daughter to court when she has nothing to do with all of this?

I have a substantial loan with this company secured against my home , unfortunately I was ill health retired a few years ago so this loan has become unbearable, I am in a position now to pay off half the loan and try and reduce my debt along with my unsustainable monthly outgoings, they have said they will accept the monies with interest applied but will not reduce my monthly payment just the term of the loan leaving me with no liquid capital and the same extortionately high repayments. Another gripe I have is that my loan was taken out at 6.8% and I am now paying 8% even with historically low bank of England rates .. these people need to be scrutinised as they are making money out of misery, I want to pay and reduce my debt they are making it impossible to escape. I wish as with all cases agreements like this had to be certified by a solicitor even if the solicitors fees were added to the loan its all right reading agreements interpreting them is quite something else.

We have to stand up against company, they seem to be taking the micky out of people especially in these terrible times, they have no sympathy when you speak on the phone to them, If anyone with Legal Background can help with advice on how to handle this companies unhappy clients please get intouch through this review page.

I took a loan with them 7 years ago for 15000 to be paid over 25 years. I have never missed a payment and no PPI. I have come into money, wanted to settle the loan and have wanted to for years. Now I owe them 17233 including the fees. All they say is read the small print and the contract I signed. They have you tied in! Really, all these types of companies are of the same business plan. If you dont need the thing you are going to buy with the loan, dont buy it! If you need the loan to dig yourself out of a hole, it will not help! The people that work for them in the call centres are soulless and I hope they all find themselves at the mercy of the company that they work for. You too Carol V.

The reasoni say whati have above is because they almost pushed my wife to the point of suicide .Even after them aggreeing not to contact my wife anymore they just carried on sending letters and phoneing her .We took a loan out with them 5 years ago but 2 years into it I lost my job same as thousands of others .The compassion from these people was non existant .The phone calls from these people verged on the threatening .I contacted the financial ombudsman about them as when you phone it says calls are recorded but any of my calls that I complained about only had notes taken on the call which of course were all in there favour so complaining about them didn't work either . paying the loan for 5 years I still owed more than I borrowed . I have now sold our house to pay them off the hassle we got from these people also split me and my wife up .I am now working to try and get my marrage back together any one reading this review may be thinking of takeing a loan out with these people please don't it will ruin your life and maybe more DON'TDO IT if you have to borrow go somewhere else these people are no better than loansharks.I have had to come back as the star rateing has come up wrong there should be a zero rateing

I have just read your review on First Plus, I am also in the same position that you were in They told me to cut down on my food bill so they could increase my payments to cover my arrears, the person I spoke to had no sympathy for my problem at all, I think the Goverment should have a full investigation into this Company, I took my Loan out in 2006 and stilll owe the same amount with their terrible interest Rates
Written on: 02/12/2013
I had to sell my house to pay them off .I had paid the loan for 5 years and still paid back more than I actually borrowed if any one else reads this do not take out a loan with this company it is bad for your health and your marriage .

Thanks for your reply I cannot believe this Company is allowed to do this without the Government stepping and investigating their company, they are no better than loan sharks, I have been paying for 7 years and still owe the same as I did when we took out the loan, Has anybody been to citizens Advice regarding their problems with said company if so please let me know answer as that is what I have been told to do.

Has anyone considered meeting their MP to discuss Barclays First Plus?
Written on: 16/01/2014
I dont know what good MPs could do I know that
Sounds defeatist but if the financial ombudsman can't do anything I dont think an MP will but give it a go and please let me know how you get on.

first plus put me in touch with freedom finance for a £15000 loan secured on our house.I was unsure as i was off sick with a neck and back problem the loan arranger asked for some pay slips he noticed that i was of sick and rang me to say he would hide the fact i was sick because i wouldn't get the loan.6 months later they repossessed our home because i couldn't go back to work.FIRSTPLUS have admitted it should not have been granted but all it shows is my wage on a form and not the actual pay slips.IF THIS IS NOT A COVER UP THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.IT WOULD HAVE SURELY BEEN BETTER ADVICE TO REFUSE THE LOAN BUT MAYBE COMMISION MISTED HIS JUDGEMENT

The many nights spent on my (sore) knees praying that those money grabbers at First Plus (and Barclay's) may well have been worth it. I wrote many times to FP when interest rates went down, having suffered interest rate hikes, only to be told time and time again that First Plus could justify the rates because of charges upon them(another word for profit). I always knew that I would pay more for a FP loan but they epitomise all that is wrong with UK banking. For their penance let us pray for a rebate!

Borrowed £54,00 with insurance of £18,000 seven years ago - paid over £36,000 back to them and still ower them £72,000. PPI mis-sold and now selling house as a result of the above will leave me with a short-fall in addition to the mortgage I have left on the account !!!

Like many people we were missold PP. OK here's what to do. Contact them directly, stay clear of any of the "no win no fee" companies, they will take a huge portion of any cash you get back. Do it yourself. The reason you were misled PP is because it is useless. Try phoning them, this is pretty much impossible , so if you can not get through on the phone write to them, record the details. Over time they will respond. They will keep eventually send you a form, fill it in and return it. Over the next couple of months you will continue to get letters from them stating your complaint is being looked at. Ignore them and sit tight. Eventually you will get the full amount back, just like we did, plus a massive reduction in your monthly payments. Do it, it is your money they are taking from you. Best of luck.

My wife and I took out a £290000 loan with First Plus approximately two years ago. Like most of the other reviews, the amount has not gone down at all despite paying £249 per month. We have our mortgage with Northern Rock with an outstanding amount of £195000 secured and £29000 unsecured. We recently had our property valued at £195000 which puts us in negative equity. We decided that selling it privately would leave us with shortfall and having been told by First Plus that may refuse our sale, we decided after legal advice to hand the keys back to Northern Rock. I cannot say enough good things about Northern Rock, who were so helpful and understanding. First Plus however were the complete opposite. Two days after cancelling the direct debit and numerous times explaining to them that we were handing the keys back, the phone calls started. Twice a day, every day. I explained time and time again of our position and offered them £50 per month. They flatly refused, and told me that they would reposses the property!!! How many times do I have to explain? Leave well alone. They are worse that loan sharks.

We are in a similar position, we had to relocate and buy in Scotland and mortgage repayments are killing us for the two propertys, one for sale in NE stood empty. The estate agent is useless and its so frustrating. Where did you get the advice from re handing back the keys, i feel that this may be our only option to remain above water, unless the NE property sells.

By far the worst company I've ever dealt with! The customer services department have on many occassions lost my details and payments which have lead to my account being passed on to debt recovery firms. I got to the point where I actually wanted my account to only be dealt with by the debt recovery team as they were more helpful! They are absoloutely awful. NEVER EVER USE THEM!!

i was sold a payment protection insurance policy, that I cant even use, as there are that many loopholes, its unbelieveable. No help whatsoever when we lost our jobs, then when self employed we again ran into financial difficulties, and first plus are no help again...they would rather repossess my property and make myself and family homeless than help us. DO NOT take out a loan with first plus.

First Plus Loans? What a joke, should have been called Last Choice. They love to put interest rates up and in the next few days you get a letter informing you that you will be further out of pocket. But what about the last six months when the interest rate has fallen to an all time low. Where is my letter NOW, to say my rates are coming Down?? I'm still waiting and hungry?

Borrowed £43,500 (Including £8,300 PPI) in August 2004. Asked for redemption figure this month after paying over £13,300 FirstPlus say £39,443 plus legal fees to settle including part refund of PPI !!!! Loan has only reduced £4,200, where do they buy their glasses because they seen me coming a mile away....

Yes I totally agree. I have been with First Plus for 8 years and they are not user friendly and completely ruthless. Don't touch them with a barge pole and like the gentlemen says above a local loan shark will probably offer you better interest rates!
