“make sure you don't choose automatic renewal”

“DIFFICULT TO GET MONEY FOR ACCIDENT”

★★★☆☆

written by fighthem on 08/12/2015

AFTER AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY CULPABLE DRIVER FAINTING, WITH OVER 10 WITNESSES, THE INSURANCE ASSESSOR TRIED ALL TRICKS TO KNOCK DOWN THE CLAIM PRICE OF A RIGHT OFF AND EVEN TRIED TO MAKE ME PARTLY RESPONSIBLE. HOWEVER I STUCK TO MY GUNS BUT STILL TOOK 3 MONTHS TO GET MONEY FROM COMPANY. HAVING CHECKED OUT MOST INSURANCE COMPANIES I NOW REALISE THAT THE INSURANCE CULTURE IS TO TRY NOT TO PAY OUT BY THEM ALL. IN THIS SCENARIO LV COMES OUT BEST OF THE WORST. THE SITUATION NEEDS THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE A LOOK AT AS WE ARE ALL BEING RIPPED OFF. THIS WOULD WORK IF THE GOVERNMENT WAS NOT IN COLLUSION AND JUST AS DISHONEST LOL

“Telephone lines shutdown for fire drill”

★★★☆☆

written by Daytonp138 on 02/05/2015

I waited online for over 5 minutes, which is a lifetime hanging on the phone. Then i got a message saying lines were now closed for a fire drill. The mind boggles that a major insurer does not have contingency plans for emergencies, let alone practise drills. First and obvious your call centre for car insurance should not all be in one building, it should be split between 2 locations, not difficult with telecomms and electronic systems in this day and age! If it had been located in more than one location, drills can be carried out in each at seperate times, without impact on customer service, except a longer wait. As i said and now reiterate you are a major insurer, LV should understand risk and business interuption better than most, but by todays display you appear to lack

“Be prepared to jump through hoops after you start the...”

★★★☆☆

written by Davianw341 on 06/03/2015

I decided to move from Sheila's Wheels to save a few pounds on my car insurance and to be honest I wish I hadn't. After I took the policy out I got the normal request for a copy of your proof of no claims, plus copies of my licence (both parts), and the car registration document!!!! It begs the question whether LV do it to avoid paying for the services directly from the relevant companies who have these records already on file, or 2)whether it's done to try and catch you out with maybe a view to charging you somewhere else down the line for admin or similar. Either way you're made to distinctly feel like they don't trust a word you tell them, and yet they are happy enough to take the payment details without discussing this level of finer detail. After 20+ years driving, and using lots of different insurer's, this is the only time I have ever been asked for this much detail so it raises the question whether saving a few pounds is worth the addition pain, and I for one think it isn't. After all if you have to jump through this many hoops to keep them from cancelling the policy what are they going to be like if you have an accident that transpires to be your fault. I know they have a great score on Reevoo (which btw: requires you by invitation to complete feedback within a few weeks of purchase) but it all feels a bit too contrived for me. I for one will be looking to jump ship as soon as the policy ends, and won't be recommending these guys to anyone

“very poor reimbursement fee”

Sold the car so only used two thirds of my annual policy, but the way LV calculate the cancellation fees leaves me with £9 instead of £70! Someone is making a nice profit.............

“Allow time to phone.”

★★★☆☆

written by on 07/06/2014

The website is very quick and easy to use. However, they were too busy to speak to me when I telephoned to buy car insurance. Hence only 3 stars. Am a bit anxious that when I need help or to claim, will have to hang on the end of the phone for hours.

“Negotiating car insurance via Moneysupermarket”

★★★☆☆

written by Howard478 on 16/03/2014

Moneysupermarket gives appropriate buttons to add options to the basic insurance premium but these are not operative the premium remains the same. When I went into the LV site there was no option to add breakdown. Subsequently I just took the 'free' breakdown cover offered by Moneysupermarket. I have yet to read the 7 pages of conditions to see of this is sufficient for my needs. LV site does not appear to cover policy updates (per government legislation?) and this is an important element of the terms and conditions when people are deciding on suitability .

“Risk payment should not be allowed for no payout claims!”

★★★☆☆

written by Gena on 12/11/2013

I have been charged £30.44, apparently, because I told you about an accident I'd had, a claim for which was never made and therefore, no financial payment or vehicle reparation made, I have been told that I am classed as a risk and must basically pay for my honesty! If I had not been the person I am you would never have known and I would be £30.44 in pocket, I'm not exactly sure how you can justify this kind of practise, I would understand if a monetary claim had been made but this was not the case. You give me the cover I need at a reasonable price, but this kind of practise stinks, as if insurance isn't expensive enough as it is! I had to go online to receive a better quote than my renewal from my current insurer, you, and found the same cover for £100 less, from you, my current insurer!

“Making a claim is the big test !”

★★★☆☆

written by on 18/10/2013

Whilst I agree with most of your reviewers that it is easy to buy the car insurance! it's a different matter when you have an accident ! Whilst talking to LV, at the side of the A1, after having been pushed 200 yards by a foreign lorry, I was in no state to argue when I was advised that my car had to go to a back street garage for repair, although I had requested that I would prefer my dealer to carry out the repair. They released the car to me in a non- roadworthy state and I told lv that I was not impressed. They then indicated that I could have taken the car to any repairers I chose as quote - it was my car !!! Everyone please be aware of this even if you are advised otherwise. Apart from that, the claim handling procedure was adequate.

“Why no loyalty to existing customers?”

★★★☆☆

written by on 16/10/2013

I'm very happy with the service provided by LV, with one major exception. For the last couple of years when the renewal notice for my car insurance has come through I have re-applied as a new customer, and have saved money every time by doing so. Surely there must be a cost to LV in having to delete a customer from their active records, and another in adding a 'new' customer.....so why not give existing customers the best price for renewing without them having to play games like this ?

“Choosing Car Insurance from LV”

★★★☆☆

written by StephenBlack on 02/10/2013

I entered the LV website having found a reasonable quote via Go Compare. It was easy to set up the extras such as European travel from the menus and i eventually found out how to set up a relative as additional driver. Saving the quote was easy but almost gave up trying to retrieve the quote next day. Trying via Go Compare was impossible but I eventually found the LV site and got in via that route but a note on the original "save" page as to where to look to retrieve a quote would have helped. Also deeply unhelpful is to send out security protected documents asking for "password". I tried the pass word I had set up to access LV but that did not work ! Eventually found in small print I had to enter my DOB! Why not give a hint on the "password" page! Typical clever site written by techies. Hire someone from eBay or Apple who understands how to make details intuitive.

I have taken a fully comprehensive policy with you on 2'2018 for my car a Nissan note at the time I had no proof of my driving in the last 5 yrs I have been awaiting a letter from RSAM giving details of my safe driving record this brings my safe driving record up to date 50yrs plus quite an achievement in this day and age 42yrs driving HGV vehicles helped a lot your quote of £2000 plus is out of all proportion on a car valued at £4000 if I post this information on to you how much difference would this make?

My parents had a similar problem where LV kept fobbing them off telling them that they were waiting for the 3rd party to respond. The claim went on for nearly 6 months. My parents were sitting in their car which was parked, legally, at the kerb. The 3rd party came around the corner, lost control and hit the rear of Dad's car. They admitted liability straight away. After finally threatening LV with the insurance ombudsman, they were paid out - the full amount. LV try anything to get out of it. If you are not to blame and the 3rd party have admitted liability, LV should pay out - simples.

What is the fire excess on your fully comprehensive cover? When I get a quote it states the theft excess is the same as the compulsory excess, but there is no mention of the excess if my car was to catch fire.

My policy state that the fire excess is the total excess shown on your schedule, ie the compulsory and the voluntary excess combined (Mind is 250+250).

Yes there should be no problem, insurance companies have a data base to share information to guard against fraud. But you can always ask your insurance company to send you a letter stating your current no claims status.
Report this content uah888 Written on: 05/12/2014
You would be extremely lucky to find one that will accept your Australian no claim history. Insurers are not that generous in U.K.

We were told to use their preferred garage. It was a reputable main dealer repair centre though. We're insured with RAC/ LV and just had our car repaired last week.
Report this content GrahamBuckle Written on: 05/02/2014
Yes you are entitled to use a repairer of your choice, but by using one of the insurance companies approved repairers you will get a free courtesy car while your car is off the road. They are also bound by service level agreements, so you get a quick turn round time on the repairs. Any repairer has to submit an estimate which the insurance company will assess to make sure it is fair and reasonable for the repairs required.
Report this content Guest_55 Written on: 05/02/2014
If I recall correctly when we claimed, this was possible but then we would not have the use of a courtesy car. To keep things simple we just used LV's recommended repairer who carried out a top class repair job.
Report this content uah888 Written on: 05/02/2014
Absolutely. You can choose whatever repairer you want. However (I did a bit of research on this) you may not guarantee a hire car, you may have to pay the difference between their own repairer estimate and yours, you may not have the repair work on the same warranty. On the plus side LV policies are value for money. You get what you pay for. I cannot comment on their customer service because I never have a claim fortunately. Good luck.
