I was involved in an accident in Dec '11 in my Ford Fusion and was hit by a vehicle coming out of a turning from the right. This for me was a no fault accident with a London mini-cab and few details were given to me by the other driver - there were no witnesses.
I left it with Liverpool Victoria to sort out and they returned my excess in June '12 and my insurance renewal was only increased by 0.4%.
I was phoned the day after the accident by the insurers to arrange a hire car and was picked up that afternoon. I was told, by the hirers, the free hire car was for a maximum of two weeks so I'm not sure what happens if the repairs take longer.
LV were efficient in the way they dealt with the accident and following up the necessary work in contacting the mini-cab company and obtaining insurance details.
Perhaps they could update on how they are proceeding a good deal better as I received no updates, or maybe that's really up to me to chase them up.

Avoid this company.
My car was hit by a guy on a stolen motorcycle, damage to my car is approx £1250 + VAT. The car was legally parked at the time, the road was dry and in broad daylight.
When I called LVE I was put through to a company called Driver Assist, they just kep saying 'if the guy is insured we can get back the excess', I pointed out about a dozen times that the bike was stolen but the mupet just kept repeating hte same sentence, when I asked to speak to his supervisor I was given the same message.
In hte end I asked for the number for LVE and called them directly. Again, LVE told me that I would lose my £500 excess and my insurance premium would double next year, despiet having 60% protected no claims, they told me I couldnt claim the excess back from anyone as the guy was on a stolen vehicle.
I cancelled the claim and had the car repaired myself. However, it turns out that LVE were lying to me as I can actually claim from the Motor Insurance Bureau. LVE should have told me this but failed to do so.
I won't be using them again.

I'm having problems with them. Reported an accident that wasn't our fault (bus went into us) on 26th September. Contacted them on 18th October to see what was happening, having heard absolutely nothing, and in fact nothing had happened. Though when I rang to chase progress again today, they said that a phone call had been made to the bus company, which was followed up with a letter. Even though I've said that I wish my communication to be registered as a complaint (they didn't attempt to contact our witness until 18th October, and then only tried once) I haven't had any communication from them since 18th October. Dreadful company, inefficiently organised. Cheap in all senses of the word!!

Be very careful when taking cover for an expensive car. They have an error with their website. If you tick the box that says you don't have a tracker it doesn't work and the policy still requires a tracker. It doesn't confirm this on the website - but does in the letter that is sent out. I was lucky and noticed it in the small print. My £50K car was left uninsured for 1 week for theft. They didn't admit the fault in the website and didn't refund me. Very poor service. (read more)

i had a similar problem albeit not as expensive as this but the principle is still the same. I collided wing mirrors which is considered 50/50 but becasue the other party went to a "where there's blame there's a claim" companies, LV paid out £130 for a £25 mirror (all this was going on without my knowledge, LV claimed they wrote to me but I received nothing in the post). The other party had a witness (so did I) but LV did not contact my witness....plus to add insult to insury the witness statement provided was a total fabrication of the truth. Just think because it was such a low amount it was easier for LV to pay out. Took it to the ombudsman but got nowhere, to be told LV did everything they were expected to do. I disagree totally and have unwillingly had to draw a line. LV have not looked after me as a customer; I only logged the incident with them because I though the other party was going to be a problem.....and he was and LV looked after them. I sustained damage to my car too, I just wish I had never called them to report it. They gave me bad advice and I will never use LV again.

Couple of things,
1) Did you at anytime ask to be kept informed either in writing or verbally?
2) Every insurer who reviews the circs provided would consider a fair settlement as being 50/50 as there is no clear way of establishing who was right or wrong in the incident.
3) In regards to looking after you, most insurers have the right as per the policy to deal with the claim as they see fit, they don't have to contact you unless you ask and more importantly considering it costs about £600-800 to even instruct a solicitor economically speaking LV= was right to deal to deal with both cases as otherwise both of you would have ended up in Court being cross-examined by barristers.

Its against the law to leave the seen as you probably already know! Next time take the VRN (vehicle Reg Nunber) and phone the Police Straight away! FLED the scene, he/she will be arrested. As this happened to my friend and he phoned the police after phoning me asking what to do!
The guy was arrested 15 mins later without any insurance!
