We bought a $3200 S&F memory foam set from Ashley Furniture in Edmonton. We were convinced by the smooth salesman that it was the cadillac of foam beds and was way better than the popular Tempurpedic. We fell for it and 5 months later (after the 90 day sleep guarantee ran out)it had body indentations over 1 inch deep. I'm 130 lbs and my husband is 200 lbs. I read the warranty and discovered that it only applies if indentations are greater than 1.5 inches. S&F cleverly knows that normal wear... (read more)

Wife and I have bought two SF mattresses in the past which lasted an avg of 12 years each. Bought the newest (an Estate series in ultra firm for $2.5K) in March of 2010 from The Roomstore (Grapevine, TX), which has since gone out of business. Now (only 28 months later!) the depressions where we each lie are so bad that we both awake every morning in pain and unable to stand up straight for the first 10-15 minutes of every morning. I purchased the Stearns and Foster mattress from The Bay about a year ago, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the mattress. I get a great sleep each night, and there has been no sagging of the mattress. Also, the mattress does not heat up at night under the warmth of your body, which is great. The type of mattress I purchased has individual pocket coils, and some bamboo woven in the top part of the mattress. I made sure I did not buy a memory foam mattress, which I detest. Stearns &... Bought a Sterns and Foster Whitegate Luxury Firm. It develops troughs on both sides. I weigh 180 lbs and my wife weighs less. This was a replacement of the first "Whitegate" we purchased. It developed troughs on both sides, while keeping a ridge firmly down the middle. What the rigid center piece does is, in a word, nothing. Worst purchase of our lives. We will have to buy a new mattress soon. This one was close to $2000.00. Piece of junk! Our backs and necks have suffered.

Can anyone tell me why I didn't think to look for these comments BEFORE buying this sucker? Last night we laughed and said we should tie a rope around each other & sleep dead center of the mattress because, at one time or another, we have both fallen out of bed!! Worked through the Bay's Customer Service, which is actually in India, and a technician has come out twice. We have had our Sterns and Foster mattress for only 2 years and the sagging we have experienced on both sides of the mattress is awful. Bought a new "Fleet Street" S&F mattress over the summer. The store we bought from had a 100 day return policy but we had no need for it -- our bed was wonderful for the first 3-4 months or so. Then, almost overnight, both my husband and I started having horrible lower back, neck, hip and knee pain. We've never had any of these issues before.

Simply stated Sterns and Foster should no longer be in the mattress manufacturing business. They have certainly lost all credibility as far as their history of high ratings.
Long story short. My pillow top mattress (double sided pillow top) was measured to have a 1 1/2" sagging which was measured by a S&F representative. This meant it could be replaced. The rep. would not take my mattress for replacement because it had a few minor halo-type "stains". I was told I should have it dry...
