October 2009 - Stearns and Foster

I purchased a cushion firm, queen size stearns and foster from jc penney. I am 6 foot, 190 lbs. Uncomfortable mattress on first night. After second night i felt like i was rolling to the center. Thought i was imagining it. After waking up at 3am for the fifth night in a row i went to the garage and got my level. I stripped the bed and put the level from edge of bed to the center. The bubble went all the way to one side. So then i put the level on the other side of the bed, and the bubble went all the way to the other side. The bubble doesn't lie. A definite valley in just five days. I don't know how the other people got months out of this bed. The funny thing is, the showroom had 30 to 40 beds, and this was clearly the most comfortable. So how can this be? It's simple: the bed in the showroom is a top quality mattress. The one delivered to your home is junk.

I spent $1779 + tax for a Queen Sterns & Foster matress at Macys. I thought that paying more would get me a top quality product, and I was very, very wrong. I bought the mattress 2/10/09, and noticed issues after about 3 months that it just didn't feel the same. My husband also noticed. Here it is, 9/23/09, and we could not stand the mattress anymore, so we called in the 10 year warranty. The inspector came out and said the "depression" of 1/2 an inch was not enough for the warranty, it required ...

I bought a sterns and foster mattress at Pikeville store and in two weeks later a hole is in middle and I cannot sleep on it and it cost over four thousand dollars.

My wife and I selected a Sterns and Foster mattress as our wedding present from my parents. It's a two-sided pillow top (pillow top on both sides) which needs to be flipped and rotated regularly. I have been meticulous about following the schedule, but still noticed the sags in the first couple of years. The mattress is now more than seven years old and I will likely purchase a replacement. A new quality mattress is very expensive or I would have thrown out this piece of junk years ago. I c ...

Paid over $1,700 for a Stearns and Foster Pillow Top Mattress and after less than 1 year I feel like I'm rolling to the center. The place I purchased the mattress from (Rockford, IL) stands behind the "warranty", but only if there is a VISIBLE 1-1/2" dip in the mattress. Unfortunately the pillow top on the mattress does not allow for the impression to be seen and the only "tool" that is used besides the eyes of the "expert" mattress technician inspector is a string. I could have saved $40 and ha ...

I read everyone's negative review and just had to add my two cents worth. I have a firm S&F memory foam mattress (don't buy pillow top) and it has just been great. I too have a bad back and have a Dux bed in my other bedroom (twice as expensive)..the S&F is probably more comfortable.

I think the problem may be the pillow top..I have other pillow top mattresses and they are just terrible. Sags or leaves and indent after less then a year.

I purchased a pillow top Stearns & Foster mattress and low rise "box spring" approximately 4 or 5 years ago. The mattress began sagging in the middle after about two years use. Unfortunately it could not be turned over because of the pillow top. I spent around 1200 dolloars and am very disappointed in the quality of the so called guaranteed for 10 years product. I had always heard that this is a reputable firm, I dispute that claim. I, too will never purchase any product from this company. ...

Interesting... We have a Stearns and Foster California King mattress sitting in the front room waiting to be picked up and hauled away. We, too, experienced severe sagging within the first few months. The bed can't be flipped, but we turned it often trying to keep the sagging at a minimum (it didn't work).

We waited way too long to replace this mattress because it just turned us off from having to deal with picking one again.

Bought the Stearns & Foster Mattress at the Bay in Canada half price was $3750. Piece of garbage. the $99 specials at the the discount depot and Liquidation world that I have in the spare rooms in the basement are more comfortable. Sags, I have backaches I never had before. mattress is hot and suffocating. Memory foam does not bounce back. Service was horrible and they will do nothing. Edge of bed has craters. mattress in under a year old.

I am on my 4th set of Stearns and Foster mattresses that have to be replaced. They all have sagged. Luckily, Haverty's replaced one set and Robb and Stuckey are replacing the others. But all sets have been under 5 years old and the companies I bought them from have replaced them and I didn't have to go directly to Stearns and Foster. After 5 years, you have to deal directly with SandF and that would be a real headache. After I get these two sets replaced I will never buy Stearns & Foster ag ...

We, too, had an inspector look at the mattress.
Stearns & Foster Mattresses said our box spring support was not sufficient. We bought additional support beams, and lo-and-behold...the same sagging. If you want to sleep in a trough and wake up with a sore back, this is the mattress for you!

worst mattress I ever bought. Can't get anyone to do anything about it. It was the Stearns and Foster Manhattan Latex king. I am out $2500 and my back hurts and the mattress started sinking immediately and according to the guy that came out its not VISIBLY bad enough. I will NEVER buy another one of their products.

T bought a sterns and foster model called Berkley at a mattress firm in Durham nc. It was purchased April 2006. The mattress was fine for the first few months. Now it looks great till you lie on it. the closer to the center then you sleep tilted. It was a mistake. i filed papers with mattress firm and will call sterns and foster on2/3/09. all I want is a store credit for something other than this brand. The piping around the edges is fine on one side and under the mattress on the other. It ...

When we bought our new mattress from Sleepys in early 2008 we said the main priority was comfort and lack of sag. Sleepys assured us the Stearns and Foster was top of the line (over $2,000) and would not sag. After 6 months however there are two big valleys on each side where we sleep. Stearns and Foster came out as part of their "warranty" and said it wasn't enough for replacemenet even though a tennis ball will clearly roll into each valley, and you can see each side sag with a hump in the ...

I purchased a Stearns & Foster mattress about 1 1/2 years ago. It started sagging within months of the purchase. If I don't lie in exactly the same spot each night, I feel like I'm sleeping on a slope. I now wake up daily with lower back pain. The mattress came highly recommended by the sales rep, and I was willing to pay the extra money to get what I thought was a top-of-the-line mattress. Don't waste your money.

Bought a Sterns and Foster king mattress from Macy's. Over a short time it began to sag. Dealing with Macy's to get this matress looked at has been terrible. I have schduled two appointments and they have been "no shows" both times. I was told this was the top of the line matress. Avoid Sterns and Foster and MACY'S for your matresses.

My husband and I REALLY splurged on a mattress in 2006. We spent over $4K (and that was with 40% off) at Macy's on a S&F Brandenburg (top of the line) mattress. We chose to do so because my husband travels 14 days out of the month and we wanted his home time to be spent in comfort after staying in hotel beds so much. This mattress was heaven for about 4 months until the "craters" began. The mattress looks like a wave now with two valleys and a peak in the center! As so many previous reviews h ...

This Stearns & Foster was the worst mattress purchase ever. We bought a Sealy queen and really liked it. When we decided to get a king bedroom set, the guy who sold us the Sealy queen recommended the Stearns and Foster. What a mistake! After two years this mattress is terrible. I just replaced it.

I am on my fourth mattress from this company as the previous three have sagged the requisite 1 1/2 inches. Also, the memory foam retains heat badly. I am not having any problem getting replacements though from Stearns and Foster
