I've had my Nissan RS13 200sx for 7 years and never had any major issues with it until something got inside the engine after some maintenance and that was at nearly 130k miles! I've heard the horror stories about the big-ends etc, a specialist told me to never take it past 6500rpm on the standard crank and it would be fine, seems he was right! If you have an S13 I think it really is a case of look after it and it will look after U! Change the oil every 2500 miles and use ONLY high quality... (read more)

The Nissan 200 SX Turbo S13 is for those of you who want a fast car for not a lot of money. Mine was £1350 about 9 months ago with 89,000 miles. For that price the turbo had been replaced and the car was tuned to stage one (approx 200bhp). I bought the car with the knowledge I was only going to do low mileage in it. This is because the big end bearings on these cars tend to wear out between 90 000 and 130 000 so be careful! The ride is very comfortable, and the steering is very quick, the... (read more)

I've owned two manual Nissan 200 SX Turbo S13 Sports Cars and agree that power for buck, there's no comparison. I travelled approximately 40,000 miles between them.

I had a ball of a time wasting my Bridgestones on a track day. Love the Nissan 200 SX Turbo S13, real fast and very well built. Only had it about two weeks so far and loving it. However already run into my first problem, some air is escaping somewhere in the engine bay, making an awful noise as it bypasses the exhaust. To increase power in the 200sx S13, the best, and cheapest way is to purchase a blitz POWER filter, along with a HKS dump valve. This will increase your 0-60 time by 2 seconds and will dramatically increase speed in all gears.
AS for 'Nitrous oxide, then your best bet is a dry system by either NOS, or wizard. With this power, increase, even without, N.O. then it is imperetive that you uprate the braking system, as this ultimatly lets the car down.
Try angelfire.com for a selection of bodykits for this and other japanese vehicles.

Maybe if you tightened the serpentine belt pully, you wouldn't have the squeeling problem on the "fan belt" <-- which is most likely the DRIVE belt.
Any car which has stock speakers is going to so-called "rattle" if you crank the thing up. I have the same car (FYI I am a girl too). All I added to the sound system was an amp and the sound is EXCELLENT with the stock speakers!
As far as the car being "light" this is only in comparison to your bulky Probe. A lighter car body makes the car handle better, accelerate faster and gives the car much better MPG. I lowered my suspension by 1.5 and the car handles corners way better than many cars on the road.

I take it the supra you're refering to is the old style supra which painfully underperforms.

Pound for pound you can't get a better sports coupe, Celicas are much slower (and FWD, unless you get the GT4 for twice as much), Corrados are massively overpriced for what you get, Preludes don't have the looks and again cost at least 1K more.

I think you're spot on, there's no way you'll get another RWD coupe for under 2K that can do 140mph+ and get to 60 in under 7secs which is as reliable, good looking and fun as the S13.

The Nissan 200 SX turbo has monstrous performance and superb handling once you replace the standard rims. Easy to tune with SE Nissan and Norris Designs offering huge range of mods. The 200 SX, 2.0 Lt., 16 valve (S14) indeed is a monstrous accelerator. Its acceleration is so strong, an orange lying on the sozi's seat would be squeezed to juice. The car I bought in Switzerland has 200 hp, extended up to 223 hp with a booster chip. I will die before this car is gonna die. Some comments refer to a narrow bandwidth of rpm. Turbo starts at 2500 rpm and pulls and pulls and pulls. If there was no rpm limiter, it would pull on and on. Those people definitely are not talking about 200 SX. I kick in second gear, off you go with 4500 rpm up to approximately 100 km/h, then just kick in third gear and get squeezed...

As stated you cannot compare with a Supra they are two completely different classes of car with very different price tags. As for engine and turbo life, the turbo really chews up the oil so oil changes every 3000 miles is essential. Doing this and changing the oil feed pipe to the turbo will give long life to the engine and turbo (mine has 118k miles on the clock and still purrs like a kitten).

I agree good maintenance helps but you see ALOT of these cars with blown turbos and engines because people often do not bother with regular good maitenance on older cars.I say be REALLY careful if you want one of these check it throughly and get your overdraft limit increased ready!!

Absolutely fun to drive!

The 180 bhp, 1.8 turbo, Nissan 200 sx 'series 13' flies like a rocket.

The turbo kicks in at 3000 rpm (anything higher than that the turbo is faulty and expensive to replace). It propels you to the back of your bucket seats and will not stop until it reaches a Max of 142 mph.

I have to disagree with the reviewer, on many sections. I bought my 200sx 5 years ago. Initially I was quite impressed as it semed there was good performance and reasonable handling.
By the way, I am NOT a boy racer. However, after I had the car for a few weeks I realised that the power band was incredibly narrow (3500 to 5200), the handling very poor if driven with any serious intent and the brakes prone to serious fade. I was about to sell the car after only 6 or 7 months when I was told about a garage that specialised in the cars. For relatively small cost, they lowered the car by 35mm , changed the air intake, fitted a slightly bigger exhaust and changed the standard discs to 'cut' discs'. The lowering improved the handling amazingly (it also improved the looks dramatically). The intake and exhaust changes made the car pull all the way to the red line, doubling the useful power band and the brakes are now fantastic.
I still have the car 5 years on and have no intention of selling it. Anyone with a standard car should try these modifications. They transform the car and make it a total pleasure.

Naturally you're not going to get the best out of the car as standard, 1st things on the list for me is always to increase the wheel size, lower the springs to more sporty solid ones, new exhaust system and intake filters. These will allow you to look, sound and drive a lot better!

We (my wife and I) have only had our S13 for just over a week. Compared to a 250BHP Sierra RS4x4 turbo, this is definitely much more exciting, especially in the wet!
Thanks for the tips; we'll send in a full review whan we've had a chance to enjoy!

After reading your comment about the 200 I have to agree I have dreamed of owning one for over 12 years, and now I have one. I have up rated the suspension by lowering it and changing all the dampers and and changing the rubber bushes for poly ones , I had the exhurst changed to a s/s one made by mongoose and got part from Simon at Norris Design and upped the boost to 16psi and with the k&n and the boost upgrade the better brakes I had fitted as well I have spent £3000 pound on my car and it is money well spent in my eyes but in others I am mad , but I will not sell the car for anything, I would prefer to sell the wife first,
The s13 is a very good car if folk would open their eyes and see what a true sports car this is
