Great for the first six months, then the batteries began to run out really fast. Now even brand new batteries show on the screen as empty and the camera turns itself off. I've looked at a number of different forums and this is a common complaint.

Bought this camera for a bargain on ebay and haven't looked back since. What a great camera. It has a large lcd screen which i thought wouldn't last too long on the 2x AA batteries but I was wrong. Battery life is excellent. I'm not a professional photographer so don't really use the camera to its full ability. I just point and shoot, even my 3yr son uses this camera now. Even the video mode on this is great, not as good as a video camera but great for capturing those smaller clips of life. Highly recommended for the everyday user.

Now, had this DSC-W5 almost 3 years and it has given excellent service and clocked up nearly 5,000 photos. Not had a single problem with it. It's been on all the family holidays and everyone uses it - we have very good photos to show.
I've had plastic digital cameras in the past but this is a solid well made camera in a metal case - I would certainly buy another Sony camera as the build quality is second to none.

It's a shame that such a big company like Sony only gives a 1 year warranty on their products - after about 15 months of use my camera stopped working despite being used properly - something wrong with the lenses.

The Sony CyberShot DSC-W5 is an excellent camera! The only drawback is night photos can sometimes have disappointing results. The menus and array of settings mean the camera will have quite a steep learning curve for people who aren't familiar with digital cameras. In general though a very good camera! Highly Recommended!

I love the Sony CyberShot DSC-W5 digital camera. Forgetting my original Pentax Spotmatic (as if I ever could), I've had more fun with this camera than all the others in between. As for being too big, from my point of view that means it's not too small, and that is a good point as I hate fiddly mini gadgets. This one sits in the hand nicely, which is exactly what you want.

Overall, the Sony CyberShot DSC-W5 is a great digital camera with great picture quality and LCD screen. It is well built, and it also takes short video clips. It is quite heavy and cannot be carried around in a pocket very easily. there is also a bit of time lag from when the button is pressed to take a photo to when the actual photo is taken.

If you tell the people at sony that your camera broke after 15 mths and you thought this is quite poor, they will probably change it, they did with my ps2 after about 18 mths :)
