Good Points: Clear, sharp images. Very good movie clips for a still image camera. Very large LCD viewing screen.
Bad Points: Battery life is on the short side.
General comments: The Sony CyberShot DSC-S90 digital camera provides most of the features one would look for in a dependable, good quality camera for all around use. It takes excellent shots indoors or out, even in low-light situations without the flash. At 4.1 Mega-pixels, photo's can be easily enlarged up to poster size with good quality results. Be careful using flash in bright indoor lighting situations - you probably won't need it. Preview a few test shots to see how they look on the LCD, as this will help you decide whether you need the flash or not.
This was my first digital camera with movie capability, and I was thoroughly impressed with the results. Motion is full and natural, and sound quality is excellent. Count on purchasing at least one 256MB memory stick however, because the 32MB on-camera storage is just too little for the fun you'll have capturing special moments.
The outer casing is attractive in design and durable in construction. The size of the camera (3 7/8in x 2 5/8in x 1 5/8in) is small enough to fit into a pocket, but large enough to be easily handled. The beautiful, 2.5 inch LCD panel is the largest I found on any camera in this price range, and a relative rarity at any price.
Battery life is about average for digital cameras, which is too short. (Of course, actual battery life will vary with how the camera is being used). The rechargeable batteries that come with the camera do a reasonable job, but always carry extras with you, because you'll need them if you're using the LCD, flash, and plan on taking movies. For example, I filled a 256MB memory stick with a combination of movie clips and pictures, and used nearly two sets of batteries.
At $249 US (regular retail price), this camera compares well to others in the price range, but careful shopping might pay off big. I found my DSC-S90 for $100 off during a clearance sale, making it an absolute steal.
