I picked mine up in a charity shop and had an enjoyable hour working out the settings. Yes the screen view is not great but the pictures are very good on my PC , just watch the close-up/ distance lens setting and watch out for the flash on setting. Battery life did seem a bit short but with rechargeables it seemed OK. A handy little camera that has a fair share of features for a compact. I know it's a gimmick but I quite like the sound recorder! the first time I have come across this feature.

Excellent starter cam for the price. I have no probs with battery life, blurred pics or the cam just stopping. I#'m a pro photographer and this is the cam I choose to have in an inside pocket for those unexpected occasions. If you're having probs with the cam stopping after 30 secs might I suggest you change the settings. Thats what they are there for.

The Samsung Digimax A402 is the worst camera i have ever used. My mum brought itfor me for christmas and it decided to work for a minium time of 30's secounds before turning it's self off. The was no english instructions in the box. however it is very easy to use but i would never tell anyone to buy it. i am in the middle of looking for a new camera and wouldn't advice anyone to purchuse this item. the battery life is short, the picture's are blurred and doesn't accept memory cards and if it does it wil delete your photo memories, driving me insane. however when the camera does decide to work for 30secounds it is a decent camera that can blur your photos or deleting them so good luck if you purchuse this product!!!!!

The Samsung Digimax A402 is the worst digital camera in the world! Stay away! 90/100 photos blurry!

The Samsung Digimax A402 is a good camera if you are not good with technology or if it is for a young person who doesn't want a very high tec camera that does a lot because it doesn't. It's simple to use, no fancy settings to confuse you although limited to what you can do with it. Small display screen and bad focus on the zoom.

The battery runs out real quick. While trying to figure out how it works the battery run out like 3 times. The video is really bad and you can't hear it on the camera even though you can in the computer( even though the sound is poor). It takes good pictures.

You can film and take pictures with the Samsung Digimax A402, furthermore the pictures have many settings alowing timers to be put on when the picture will take, which allows you to be in the picture with whoever your taking the picture with etc. Overall it is a very good camera.

Received this camera for Christmas about a year ago, and it met my needs for the short period of time it was in working condition.
The flash suddenly stopped working while I was out using it for work one day, and taking any pictures indoors is just a waste of time, as they don't turn out - obviously. Taking any pictures, even out-of-doors, without the flash results in a very blurry picture!
The worst part has been trying to find a number to call for customer support, as according to their website, Samsung doesn't even manufacture digital cameras. The number provided on their Canadian site goes through to a US inbound call centre, and I am given a long distance number to call, after which I am promptly hung-up on.
Very disappointed and definitely WON'T be going to Samsung next time I'm in the market for any electronics.

In general, love the camera, I use it mostly for Family History hobby, taking photos of photos in other people albums. The ability to make a short records with each photo, has removed the problem of having to write down who is in each photo, ideal. I find the slow shutter speed, when I don't have the flash on, is a pain, any slight movement when taking a photo will cause it to blur, if I can change or speed up the shutter speed, I have yet to find out how. But over all it is easy to use and value for money.

Please let me know if there are any solutions with the battery useage, I am looking for attached (2 batteries) and which can be recharged, but so far not able to find them. Please help me to find that type, which is available on Kodak for Sony digicams.

This Samsung Digimax A402 digital camera packed up after 13 months. Beyond economical repair. It is unbelivably thirsty on batteries... one day trip will drain 4 of them!
Used a 250mb zennox sd card which gave good storage. I would not reccommend this model. I have now purchased a new Canon A430 as recommended by most experts. This camera was cheap... and now I know why.

I agree. This camera is the pits. I have gone through a pair of batteries in ten minutes. Until I read some of these reviews I thought I had a defective unit. When the batteries are in and the camera is not on, it gets so hot I worry about it catching fire. Are they all like that?

The Samsung Digimax A402 is a very good digital camera, but the battery life is short. I think I got my moneys worth, but I could have spent a little more and got a better one.

The Samsung Digimax A402 digital camera is awesome! It's my second digital camera. I wanted a digital camera for Christmas, and I was begging my mom. I did my research because I don't want anything that is no good, but not so expensive. I looked over the Samsung camera, and it seemed great. It looked huge on internet, but when I went to Walmart it was really small and compact. I liked it, and so did my mom. It was only $118 ($125 with tax). I used it as soon as I got it, and it took really crisp and clear pictures (including night time shots).
So far, I love this camera, and I would definitely recommend it. I have the dark blue one. I wanted the silver or red one, but they didn't have any, but I love my camera, and it looks different from others.

You mentioned sirnttag of with a good lens. I am a bit of a aircraft enthusiast and do a lot of my shooting at airshows Airports. The two lenses i have are a 18-200 IS 100-400 IS USM. Would you recommend these? Only reason i ask is that i have put a deposit on a 7D as an upgrade for my 400D. Would you class the 7D as a good Choice

I got the Samsung Digimax A402 digital camera yesterday, and I have already used two sets of batteries. I recommend this camera to anyone who wants a small lightweight camera. It was well worth my money. It comes with a USB cord, installation disk, user guide and a wrist string.
This camera is very good, although it has a few down points. The picture quality is very good. Even on x4.0, while taking the picture, it is very blurry, but once you view, it is quite clear. I give it 2 thumbs up!!!

It would be a very diffucult task to find a better digital camera within this price range. The Samsung Digimax A402 digital camera is small, sleek, and it takes great pictures. Add a 1GB SD memory card and you are set for many many years to come. Thank you Samsung!

Deepak....you can get four AA NiMH batteries AND a charger for under £6 at Lidl or Aldi.

<br/>ALL digicams eat alkaline batteries -- even the high-grade ones like Duracell.
