“Waste of Money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/12/2015

Based on my own experience with this product over the last two years, I am surprised that as many as 35% seem satisfied with it. like many other customers, I have found that: Assembly instructions are very poor The quality of materials is inadequate When assembled, it cannot withstand even a moderate wind The door and panels are blown off and need refitted The wire clips for securing the panels are dreadful The roof vent is poor etc... I know that £400 is not a lot to spend on a greenhouse but for that money, I still expect something a bit more robust that this. I will not be recovering and refitting any more panels as it isn't worth the bother. Instead it will be dismantled and dumped. It has turned out to be a pile of rickety, flimsy rubbish.

“Never buy this Greenhouse!!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 406Morrow on 27/05/2015

This cheap and nasty greenhouse came with poor assembly instructions and a complete lack of profile details to ensure you were fitting things the right way around. The polycarbonate panels were a nightmare to use due to the over-complicated fitting of trim edging pieces. I am a very experienced DIYer and offered to erect this greenhouse for my father in law. It's now taken 3 days to try to apply logic to where the instructions are wholly inadequate. Avoid this product at all costs.

written by billnorfolk on 21/04/2015

Erected greenhouse in spring 2012 ,not easy but got there eventually , noticed couple of weeks ago several of the polycarbonate panels are full of holes and very brittle after 3 years ,rubbish quality .Have emailed Gardman 4 times and sent pictures with each email ,no reply. Have phoned every number at head office from customer service ,management training ,sales, exports, accounts, recruitment non answere a phone all go to recorded message .So far 10 messages have been left but no one rings back.If you are thinking of buying a gardman product my advice will be don't bother get another ,non can be as bad as these. The company i bought from won't do anything as the 12 month warranty is up. I have polycarbonate panels on my car port been on 20 years still as good as new ,greenhouse ones are rubbish.

“Cheap but time consuming ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 25/02/2015

We bought one of these because they appeared to be good value. How wrong we were, there were pieces missing and the whole construction process was a nightmare. The instruction booklet was appalling a complete waste of time. Erecting the frame took forever the door came without runners and was v. flimsy. When if came to glazing the problems only became worse. In all it took us 4 days and lots of expletives before it was finished. I have put up a greenhouse twice the size in 2 days without the hastle we experienced here.

“Don't buy one (however cheap) - Gardman 8 x 6 Greenhouse”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TerrellSmart on 16/06/2014

Am half way into building this greenhouse despite the worst instruction sheet I have had the misfortune to encounter. Having discovered that the front two front apex sections are the same and should be opposites to form the apex I noted the customer services number on the instructions to use "in case of difficulties" which went to an answering machine. Left a message to ring me back. After several attempts to speak with someone without success I contacted their Marketing Section who said he would put me through to customer services. I told him that numerous messages had already been left and he said he would get someone to ring me back. After this too failed to illicit any response I contacted their Media Section and asked them whether anyone actually answered their Customer Service number. She responded that I must have experienced difficulties and she would take my details and get someone to call me back - guess what? I'm still waiting!

“FLIMSY RUBBISH”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Finley416 on 14/04/2014

I bought a 6 X 4 Greenhouse 6 years ago. It wasn't easy to put together at all but my husband and i managed it. The first wind blew most of the panes out!!Some of them we never found again - heaven knows what happened to them. I complained to Gardman and they sent me 4 replacement panels. This time I siliconed them in and put extra glazing clips in them, but the next wind blew them out again and moved the greenhouse off it's base. The next time i cemented the base to the ground and re-silconed the panes in and put even more clips on, but instead the door blew off and the wind got inside and still took about 6 of the panes out, two of them completely disappeared. I have now given up with this utter pile of rubbish. My advice to anyone is don't buy it unless your are going to set it up indoors where there isn't a breath of wind. My garden is small and quite sheltered - not on the top of the hill or in an exposed position.

“Stay Clear Of This Product. RUBBISH”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 11/01/2014

We purchased the greenhouse late in 2013. It was difficult to erect and parts were missing. Some parts did not have the holes pre drilled and we had to re order. It was very difficult to put together. The door did not fit well and has gaps around it. The first sign of wind blew over half of the panes out. We are lucky we retrieved most of them; goodness knows the damage or injury it could have caused. We got in touch with Gardman and they recommended we buy the glass clips from B&Q as they were of a better quality. I mentioned that the panes did not stand up to the weather at all well; they suggested we use clear silicone under the panes. It does not bode well when they do not have faith in their own product. We have not even used the greenhouse; it stands in our garden with missing panes. What is the point of putting new ones in when you know the next gust of wind is going to blow them out again. I am getting in touch with the Citizens Advice about the sale of goods act to find out where we stand with a refund as I strongly believe the greenhouse is being miss sold. I strongly believe the greenhouse is being miss sold. This item is not good value for money and I would suggest you stay clear of this greenhouse and invest in a better quality one, I truly wish we had.

Hi, we bought a Halls supreme greenhouse and it was under warranty and wrote to the company but they did not cover it for high winds which took out all our glass in the recent bad weather. In the end we have claimed on our buildings insurance and are going to replace all the glass with polycarbonate panels. Like you we have a greenhouse that we can't use at the moment but we are hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon. Apply silicone is not the answer really and unfortunately the high winds were exceptional. we are going to erect a wind break at the side of the greenhouse and we are considering getting a heavy duty tarp which can be anchored over the Winter. Hope you get it all resolved, try your buildings insurance as a start. I know what you mean about it being dangerous and you can't work in the greenhouse but with a bit of practical thinking I'm sure it will be okay. Don't be disheartened...at least no-one was hurt when the damage occurred, all the best.

I have same complaint, most of the panels need replacing, manufacturers should be responsible for replacement of panels as the greenhouse is not fit for its proper use, should be strong enough to stand up to weather conditions.

Same complaint here. Centre of polycarbonate panel should be supported better, cannot understand why manufacturers have not corrected this fault. If an extra panel was included for support in main frame, there would be less movement in centre of panel in windy conditions, thus eliminating the panel to blow away. Maybe we should get a group together to get manufacturer to replace all panels and strengthen main frame as described above. Let's hear your views...

“Not good”

written by on 15/06/2013

After assembling which took a while! (Instructions were not very clear!) some parts didnt have the required pre drilled holes and had to purchase better bolts as many of them snapped. The opening roof vent is very flimsy and poor fitting. Then had to purchase more clips to keep the panels in as slightest bit of wind they fly away! And have now siliconed all the panels in now with large rocks propped up against the sides and still the wind pops the panels out. Would never buy one of these again ever! Would recommend you spend that little but extra on a decent make!

“Cheap and not so cheerful!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/06/2013

What a waste of money. It didn't last a year. I was so stressed in the winter months as every time it got windy many of the panels would blow out. The door went flying past our patio windows one evening. It was reasonably straight forward to build, it took me a day for the frame and a day for the glazing. I had to replace the door wheels after 3 months and ended up have having to secure the window with parcel tape. It has now gone to the dump after a year and I have replaced it with a Rhino.

“Waste of money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/05/2013

I have had to replace some of the panels 4 times now following strong winds. The door keeps blowing off. In order to try and stop the panels from blowing out, I have placed beading in every panel, 3 in each but I am not convinced that that is the answer so I have sent for a tarpaulin to cover the whole lot. The bottom line is. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Pay the extra cash and buy a good quality greenhouse.

“Absolute rubbish!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 03/03/2013

This greenhouse should be taken off the market. It's a joke! A struggle to erect with cheap screws and fittings and then even after a complete reinforcing exercise, it is totally mangled at the first sign of strong winds. We spent a lot of time on the foundation and money for extra clips, glue etc. We even crossbar red strips of wood on all sides. As I said, complete rubbish. Do not buy!

“worst purchase ever?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Fat_Tom on 06/05/2012

Potentially the worst thing I have ever bought... about 30 sheared bolts so far (which of course doesn't leave me enough to finish the project... that's ok I'll just nip to B&Q and... oh wait their proprietary bolts... cannae get them. About 10 of these bolts sheared trying to undo them... so imagine when halfway up a length shears then you have to undo one to get another slotted in and that one shears as well.. This is about 20 hours I have spent trying to get this together and now I can't... I am considering taking my axe to the whole lot.. DO NOT BUY!!! - DO NOT ACCEPT EVEN IF RECIEVED AS A GIFT....

“cheap AND nasty”

★☆☆☆☆

written by brycey on 10/03/2012

This greenhouse is flimsy, shoddy and a nightmare to construct. The instructions are crap, as are the component parts, bolts shear on tightening, and parts need reshaped. The window fixings are fiddly and impractical, and I fully expect the entire thing to be flattened by our first storm, leaving only the solid base we constructed for it. I find it hard to believe I paid good money for this, it is without a doubt the worst designed and manufactured product it has ever been my misfortune to come across.

terrible product. Instuctions aren't that easy to follow and I had to make my own additions in order to bolt the frame to the base - I expected this to be standard on a greenhouse?. In terms of the panes, the fixings are awful and when the wind picks up, they blow out!! Again, I have had to add some extra supporting bars to hold these in. For the money (+£300), this product is rubbish and I wouldn't recommend that anyone buys one!!!

“not fit for purpose”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Laura65 on 03/01/2012

I bought a Gardman greenhouse in November and have had nothing but trouble with it. What you are basically supplied with is a lot of metal strips and poly-carbonate sheets, with some poor instructions. My husband( who is a builder) and I spent 3 days building it. Since then the panels have blown out 5 times. They are in with as many clips as it says, more in places, but the clips are glorious paper clips and I can not see how they can be expected to hold greenhouse panels in place. I recently put strong tape around some of the panels in desperation, and these ones seem to be staying in place. This looks unsightly to say the least, and isn't what I expected from a new greenhouse. I would never buy a greenhouse from them again. They should have made it clear from their website that the greenhouse does not withstand any wind.

Guest's Response to Laura65's Review

We bought the same green house a couple of years ago and tested our relationship trying toassemble it together with crappy instructions. Glad to say we're still together! Had the same problem with panels being blown out no matter how many clips were applied so instead of using tape as you have done I drilled small holes in the panels either side of the framing in the roof and walls and used green cable ties to hold the panels in place. Still not what you want to see with your greenhouse but mayber not as obvious as the tape. Just went through our first high winds and panels still in place!

“Awful Product.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/12/2011

Gardman Greenhouse. I got the smaller version as a birthday present. Firstly it was very complicated to build, it took my brother and my friend the best part of 2 days to construct it. There are parts in the box that are not mentioned anywhere in the instructions, and all 3 of us are reasonably practical blokes, my brother being a motorcycle mechanic for example. It was also missing several metal clips and a plastic runner for the base of a panel. The build quality is awful. A good few of the metal frame pieces were bent and had to be hammered out into shape. The nuts and bolts are made of really cheap metal, one of which sheared off while tightening. The frame and the base didn’t fit together well at all. There was a gap over a few inches between the door and the frame, which slanted from the bottom. The panels don’t fit very well in the frame. It wasn’t at all water proof or wind proof once completed. It even had tent pegs, for which you are supposed to secure it to the ground with. It was up for 3 days and after the wind last night I came down in the morning to find it in pieces all over the garden. Honestly I’ve not seen anything designed so badly in a long, long time. If you buy a product, you shouldn’t have to then go round bodging it together with sealant and your own nuts and bolts. Absolute awful product. I just hope I can get a refund.

“Bought B & Q polycarbonate greenhouse nightmare! Took...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/04/2011

Bought B & Q polycarbonate greenhouse nightmare! Took it back after spending a week sellotaping it together to stop the wind taking the panels away. Don't buy one structure is fine but putting the panels in with the grey strips to keep them in place is not easy and if the wind gets up they pop out any way. Now back to the green covered walk in greenhouse.

It has so far taken six days to put up the Gardman 6 x 6 polycarbon greenhouse. We are intelligent 70 year old adults but have found the materials very difficult to use and frustrating trying to put it together. Definitely would not recommend at any price. Wish we had never bought it. Has anyone else has issues with it?

Yes took me 2 weeksish and never finished putting the door on as no holes predrilled for it :( when putting in the panels I advise you silicone them in or every gust of wind will blow them away :) good luck
