I have owned this 6230i phone for over 3 and a half years, i've used it all around the world and it has been dropped countless times, still going strong, a very very reliable and sturdy phone, very reluctant to upgrade it, why don't Nokia make current phones as good as this ?

written by DJ Neman on 06/08/2008

I have my Nokia 6230i for almost a year, and it still works like new. I really like it. No matter if are you a teenager or businessman, you will find it adequate for every purpose. The 1.3 Mpix camera captures pictures better then most of phones that have 2.0 Mpix camera. It's really loud, and great for listening music with or without headphones. It also has an EQ which you can tune to match the music you are listening. Beside the USB cable, you can connect it to your PC or other phone trough Bluetooth or Infrared. The bad thing is that the display is small, and video that you record, no matter if set it on highest quality still is BAD! It also doesn't support the MP4 video playing which can ruin your day if you want to transfer better quality video from your friend's phone. It's perfect for the price, and if you are not a hi-tech freak, this is surely phone for you. Well recommended!

I do own it now and like you reading this i did the same in looking for what other people said about it first before buying one but i have to say i was never dissapointed and still arent that i finally bought one (it was a xmas prezzie to myself). you have everything you need on it camera media player video player, FM radio etc. I think the only thing i would change about it is like i said looking for a picture tends to take a min or so but i have a 128mb memory card so it'll improve with a 512mb.

“The Nokia 6230i is brilliant. ”

★★★★★

written by f18nfz on 27/07/2007

The Nokia 6230i is brilliant.
It has an amazing design,
Has all the necessary features
Is not massively over priced
Remains good quality even after time
Takes memory cards
Plays videos and has Bluetooth

I have successfully downloaded and watched several films on my Nokia 6230i, the quality is not amazing but is satisfactory (3gp videos are very small in size so an entire film would easily fit a 128mb MMC memory card)
I read someone called it ugly, that comment disgusts me, I find this the most attractive phone there is yet. The buttons and ergonomics of this phone are perfect, the buttons stand out and are comfortable, easy to speed type when text messaging.
This phone has a music player, so plays MP3 tracks perfectly (with the memory card option you can have loads of tracks! (MMC only)

The gaming capabilities are fantastic, Java 3d games...
However the memory that applications can hold is limited, so you cannot download the latest big games. However they do still make good small Java games.
This phone is great when you're bored. I always play games on my Nokia 6230i when on the tube or in a boring lesson. The games I currently have and recommend are FIFA 2007, Worms Forts, Scarface, Super Mario..(and more)
The inbuilt games are golf which is excellent quality, and a car game which I have deleted almost immediately.

When talking about phones you tend to hear about ringtones, so OK ill discuss ringtones briefly.
This phone is an MP3 player, with audio recording capabilities, so you can get your favourite song/music and set it as your ringtone!
The pre-set ringtones are great, Ancient sounds a lot like the prison break theme and was present before prison break came out.
Caribbean is my favourite ringtone.

YOU CAN NEVER GET BORED OF THIS PHONE it has changeable themes so you feel like you're using a new phone!
You can have changeable covers (expensive though)

Like all Nokia its great for speed typing, has a good calender function and alarm clock, it has a countdown timer and all the other standard features.
This phone has Bluetooth, a 1.3mp camera (not amazing in darkness and quality is reduced significantly in night mode) a not so good video camera (unless you're outdoors or it's bright) the video camera can film for ages if you have a memory card and with the Bluetooth you can easily transfer data to a computer or laptop with a Bluetooth USB or equivalent.
I'm also happy with the fact that Nokia decided to keep infra-red and a radio on this phone, these are both great tools.

The main selling points about this phone is the attractive design, it's gorgeous compared to ALL OTHER PHONES.
the shape and design especially the keypad is perfect, I have previously had a 3100, and 3200 and definitely recommend Nokia. The 6230i is my best phone so far and I will be sad to part it, I don't think I will ever see a phone that is as ergonomically friendly and attractive as the Nokia 6230i.
All purpose perfection!

HOWEVER... nope just kidding, there is nothing really bad about this phone the battery life is outstanding, the voice quality over the phone is not amazing but that is to save battery life and it can be changed.
Loudspeaker, wallet, video playing, Bluetooth, infra-red, radio, video recording,
This phone has all the accessories built in and this does not slow its performance down one bit.
this phone is GLORY

One thing is when I bought mine (second hand of eBay for £40) the infra-red screen was missing, I don't know if this is easily broken or not, otherwise phone is amazing!)

I previously had a Nokia 6230 from Orange and loved it, however after the wife put it in my Stepson's washing bag, it got wet and I lost the ability to use the yes button. I hate flip and slide phones so that put out about 70% of the competition. Looked at the Walkman phones but found them and more importantly the buttons way to small. Liked the look of the 6233 until I saw the keyboard which was awful. There were a couple of others I looked at but in the end came back to the update of my old favourite . Couple of difference's - better camera, longer video capture. One slight downer is the addition of a little button on the main control key but that is a minor quibble. It may be a little old in the tooth (bit like me), but its still a great little phone

I found this phone really easy to use and and easy to download music and games on to from my PC.
The music player and games all play very well even though I have only had it three weeks I am over the moon with this purchase. The only thing I need to do is get a larger MMC storage card. It is a nice little phone.

written by chris39 on 11/12/2006

Sadly this phone lacks floatability and a total lack of leapability. A week ago I was leaning over cleaning out a stream of leaves and branches and my phone fell out of my pocket into the stream. Sadly it did not float nor leap back up into my pocket. I drained the stream and never found the phone. Darn poor show.
Huge instruction book put me off. I prefer things to be intuitive.

Nokia 6230i is the worst phone I have ever owned. I am on my third 6230i handset because I keep getting the reoccurring problem of the phone switching itself off and messages in my inbox being blank. I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I would rate this phone 1/10.

It is a good mobile phone for those wanting an easy to use phone, without too many extras.

The Nokia 6230i mobile phone comes with a radio attachment. It has a really good quality camera, and loads of room if you add a memory card. The screen is quite large, excellent bluetooth reception and the battery life can last up to 3 days, left on. Not too expensive and amazing reception. The features were on the whole OK. Oh, it also has an MP3 player. It is a brilliant phone, if you like basic phone's with a few added features, like colour screen and photos etc.

written by ChipsterXX on 09/10/2006

I dished out $290 for this Nokia 6230i phone. It was top of the list in every review I read. What's wrong with those reviews or with the reviewers? In a nutshell, this phone is not worth your money nor your time, contrary to all the "raving" reviews you may have read elsewhere.

As long as we still have freedom of expression, I'll say: Don't buy this phone. Nokia is overrated and overpriced, as if the other cell phones weren't over-rated and over-priced! I'm sorry for every buck I spent on it.

written by andyv on 05/10/2006

With this Nokia 6230i phone I can choose how the top-level keys are used and therefore tailor them to what I want, so I'm just 1 click from particular items/functions.
It's compact and fits unobtrusively in various pockets.
So far, I do not have a problem with the battery life, it's far batter than my previous (now quite old) phone, so time will tell.
The loudspeaker works well in the car for short conversations.
Compatibility with previous chargers.
I like the Golf game.

Some of the negative points are:
I don't have time to find out how to work all of the functionality.
The standard ring tones are different to my last Nokia, so I do not recognise the phone yet as my own.
The interface for the headset changed, so my old one is redundant.

I've gone from pay-as-you-go to monthly contract with Virgin - very easy and helpful staff.

I have owned this phone for a year now and have had no problems whatsoever. The radio is quite good and the camera takes reasonable quality photos. Video is quite good as well. I got this free with a 12 month contract which is just running out, but I may keep it after contract has expired as it is such a good phone.

I lost my Nokia 6230, which I was very happy with, and then ended up with this Nokia 6230i as a replacement, firstly I thought it was just the same phone with a new button in the middle but as I started to use it, I noticed the screen was much better. It was great and so I started taking pictures and they were pin sharp on the screen. The phone also had more memory which I never use because of my ipod but if you do want to use mp3, it will take a 512mb memory card easily and I got a 256mb in mine now and have loads of pics and movies and there is still room for more. Anyway it's a great phone, it's better than the 6230 which I loved to pieces, my first decent phone with easy to use buttons, great battery life and now loads of little gadgets, but still this phone is easy to use.

Style is a bit standard for these Nokia's, nobody would really know what a great phone you had. But for the money - the features and fun are well worth it.

PS I've dropped this phone a few times from waist height a few times and it's just a little scratched. But my boss dropped it once from 1m+ on concrete and it broke for good.

“Nokia have always been one of the most popular brands...”

★★★★☆

written by thunder tiger on 30/07/2006

Nokia have always been one of the most popular brands of mobile phones sold today, and they still are! The Nokia 6230i shows what a mobile phone should really be like.

I have owned the phone for 11 months now, and I am not thinking about upgrading it because this phone is just incredible!!

The moment I took it out of the box, I notices the sleek design and how comfortably it fit in my hand. The first thing I just had to try was the camera, as I had heard so many good things about it. As soon as the live image came up on the screen I was amazed! There was absolutely no lag in movement, and the image just flows as you move the phone about. When I took my first picture, I instantly uploaded it onto my computer and set the image as my wallpaper (my screen is set to 1280 x 1024), and the image size was the same. It looked so clear, and not one part was wrong - no pixelated pictures.

While the 32Mb memory card was in my PC I decided to put some music and pictures onto it. I played back the music on my phone, and I was blown away by the beautifully clear sound reproduction. While I was doing this, I stumbled across the MP3 player. This shocked me even more, as it is the first phone I have seen where you can play some music in the background while texting, viewing your pictures or just admiring your wallpaper. Also, if you like to listen to music on the go and don't want it blaring out down the high street, you can use the supplied headphones. Or, Nokia now do an adapter to change the Nokia's Pop Port to a 3.5mm jack plug, so you can use your own headphones!

When I was browsing through my pictures, I noticed how easy the files were to navigate through. There's no more Images go to the pictures folder. You can put files in any folder you want, eg. you can put your music into your pictures folder and still play it from there. This is especially handy, as I can also make new folders within the main ones, so I can navigate my music as I would on my PC, with all the albums in different folders, and also have the album art in a music folder.

Also, while I'm talking about files. I also like the fact that this phone stores the files sent to it by bluetooth, even if it's not compatible with the phone. So if a friend wants to send you a computer program or Windows Media video to try out when you get home, the phone will easily store .exe .zip .avi .wmv, anything. Most phones just reject the file sent to it if it's not compatible.

I do a lot of business too, and the organiser features couldn't be easier to use. Take the calendar for example; you just select a date, write your to do list and save. It's that simple! There is a program for taking notes as well. This is handy for remembering long websites, and there is no more writing notes in a text and saving as a draft!

And now for one of the best features... Text messaging... What? I hear you say!! The text messaging is just so easy because of the keypad. It is the perfect shape and size to make texting a breeze. I use my phone mostly for sending text messages, and this is the best phone for I have ever used for texting, and I have had many phones.

Contacts are stored nicely too, and the are easy to navigate through. You can assign individual ringtones to people as well as pictures. Oh, and it has voice activated dialing too.

Ahh, now, the battery life... I have read lots of reviews and heard lots of stories of the battery life being very short. Well, I have to say that they're wrong! People probably don't read the instruction guide and don't know how long the first charge should be. The first charge is the most important, and it is vital that you charge it for the time stated in the book (in this case, 12 hours). The first charge calibrates the battery to get it working to its full potential, and my phone lasts for up to 5 days with general use, and up to 4 days with hard use, and the charge time (faster than the first charge) is only about 4 to 5 hours to fully charge it. It is very handy if your battery is flat and you need a phone at short notice!

Overall, The 6230i is an excellent little phone, that is absolutely jam packed with useful features, including a very good digital camera, a nice screen and sound reproduction.

This phone is 101% recommended for anyone who texts, listens to music, or just makes a lot of calls or likes mobile games and cool features, such as photo editor etc. I am going to stick with T-Mobile and this phone, and I am not going to upgrade this year, as this phone is the best I have used by far.

10/10 and recommended for everyone!
