Good Points: - Good classes can make you feel very 'high' and make it all worthwhile - Dealing with individual student issues can make you feel you are making a real difference - Every other job is pailed into insignificance after a spell in teaching - Nice, motivated kids make some classes really enjoyable
Bad Points: - Regular, sometimes daily, verbal abuse from students - Truly appalling and unsupportive line and senior management - The students 'hold the cards' and know this - Knowing that responsive and motivated kids regularly miss out on a decent education because of the disruptive few - The terrible idea of 'inclusion' (very poorly behaved/disturbed kids in mainstream schools)
General comments: Sometimes this job can be the most amazing career in the world: a good day can make you literally glow inside but a bad day, with absolutely no back up from management, can make you feel so terrible, tense and damn right awful. At the end of the worst days in the job, I can remember feeling I wanted to drive away and never, ever return. A unique job, hard work and very intense. Not for the sensitive and faint hearted!
