Bad Points: I applied for a personal loan online. I was advised that I'd hear of a decision in 48 hours. 8 days later I had heard nothing, so I called them and they said that I'd been declined and a letter should have been sent out. I asked why it wasn't - they weren't sure!
General comments: I have a good credit rating and they couldn't tell me why I'd been declined! This whole experience has left a bad impression of Northern Rock, who seem very unprofessional! Will not consider them for future finance including mortgages!

If being refused for a loan, I believe that a reason should be given so that you are able to rectify this ASAP. Northern Rock were friendly and helpful, but their lack of explanation for their refusal of my loan application is absurd.

I would recommend Northern Rock to anybody looking for a self certified mortgage or loan, as our experience has been extremely pleasant!!

I applied for the loan online and called 2 days later to check the progress. They said they had never received it, so they took all the details again on the phone. As with the other review, the application was denied! I have never defaulted on any payment with anything. I have my mortgage with them, and I can easily afford the repayment. The Northern Rock would also not disclose why I had been turned down - very odd!

I only have a limited experience with Northern Rock. My loan request was denied. However that's not what bothers me. It's the fact the they completely failed to notify me that they'd even received my application OR let me know that it had been declined. So, back to Barclay's Graduate's it is...

Northern Rock, in my opinion, is excellent. They do exactly what they say they will, quickly and honestly. Once I received the loan, I wasn't bombarded with promotions, junk mail or other correspondence. They simply gave me the loan, they collect the payment each month exactly when they say they will, and their interest rates are practically unbeatable.

Northern Rock Loans - I have my mortgage and home & contents insurance with N/R and was pleasantly surprised with how quick they dealt with my loan application!
The advisor was friendly and more importantly they kept me up to date with what stage my application was at.
They know their stuff and I'm happy to have everything with one supplier, keeps it simple and the are very competitive.

Northern Rock were great when I needed to refinance to consolidate all my debts into one monthly payment. However, when my circumstances changed and I attempted to bring down my monthly payments by paying off half of the loan in a lump sum I was informed very haltingly that I had to first pay the lump sum then apply for my payments to be lowered. Then after not hearing anything for a couple of days I contacted Northern Rock to be told that everything was fine but that I would have to fax proof of residence to them. I was amazed at how fast i recieved my personal loan from Northern Rock,I filled in application on the internet and was sent confirmation in 2 days,and this was at christmas time.
I sent the documents they asked for and the money was in the bank within 4 days.
there was absolutely no hassle and I also got the low advertised rate which was 6% at the time of applying,cant recommend them enough if you want money fast.

Imagine applying for a loan and being accepted. You send the required documentation promptly in anticipation...nothing happens. When you phone they tell you loan has been declined because they don't have a licence to trade in N. Ireland. It would have been great to have been informed rather than waiting in vain and what's more they can't find the personal documentation that was sent.
