Just wanted to let everyone know about some of STA's shady business practices - next time you book - be sure to ask what the APU is - for those of you not in the know - the APU is the price mark up that gets added to your price. Be careful when asked "What kind of fares have you been finding" - if you tell them you found a fare online for $900 - and they can find it for $300 - they'll sell it to you for $800.00 and mark the ticket up by over 100%. In fact marking fares up by 1000% is encouraged if the booking agent can get away with it. They are without a doubt one of the least principled businesses operating today.

STA changed our booking without telling us of the time change. We were left in Mumbai/Bombay with no money, and no help. upon return they have batted us around between branch and customer service centre and have refused to pay us back for a flight we have aready paid for (STA didnt forward the payment to the airline.)

In September 2007 me and my boyfriend used STA Travel to book our year out to Australia and Asia, to start in Feb 2008. I spent many weeks to an throwing on the phone with a sales consultant to find me cheap flights (thinking booking in advance we be better). Eventually we settled on dates and booked our flights. We paid a bit extra as we had a different route home, coming through Thialand for six weeks of travelling round Asia. We also booked a ticket with 12 month validity so we would not need ...

I have used STA a few times and can't understand all the bad press they get.
I can only assume that people who have had bad experiences have just been unlucky in getting the wrong consultant, because I have nothing but praise for them. I have used the portsmouth and southampton shops and have always found them to be helpful and knowledgeable.
I booked my round the world flights with them a couple of years back and the info I got was brilliant. I have since been back to book the odd flight o ...

I booked my tickets through STA for the convenience. However whilst travelling, I changed the dates of my flights home. Instead of re-booking my ticket, they simply cancelled my original ticket, leaving me and the airline slightly confused when I turned up at the airport to board a flight I wasn't booked onto.

I have had noting but problems from Sta Travel. The members of staff consistently gave me wrong information about my flights, the visa's I needed, the injections I needed and I had to constantly badger them to even send me my itinerary, I even found them reluctant to give me my tickets that I payed well over a grand for. I was so disappointed with the way that Sta Travel that I went to Travel Counsellors who somehow managed to sort out the mess that the poor excuse for travel agents at STA trave ...

My first encounter was a few years ago when they sold me an International Student Card that actually expired in 2 months, when if I'd been told to wait another week, I'd have got it for the next year. When I went in to complain, I ended up being the one shouted at and told that my complaint was invalid, even though it had happened to several people I knew.

We used them again last year to book a RTW trip, although used another branch incase I came across the member of staff I dealt with previous ...

I recently booked my honeymoon flights with STA Travel, i wish i hadn't. During the process of updating itineries they changed flight times and didn't highlight the changes meaning an additonal 6 hours airport stop over - not what you need at the end of a honeymoon. Be warned STA Travel take no responsibility for your flight itineray even when they change it without your request. I would also warn you, as soon as they have your money their approach changes as you will read in many other reviews ...

Went to STA travel to book a working holiday visa, choose to book it here as it was considerably cheaper than any price given online and £30 cheaper than trailfinders. Also got an international student card which they did in store in less than 10 minutes.Had to wait about 20minutes to see someone, but fortunatly i wasnt in a rush! Will be using them again to book hostels etc.

STA travel failed to book the Hong Kong - Bali portion of our trip that meant that we arrived at Hong Kong Airport to find we had no flight out. With no 24hr customer service to contact we had to pay full fare to get our flight to Bali. We are now stuck in an arguement between STA and Air Brunei over who is to blame, while we are over £1000 out of pocket

Top marks for STA Travel, I can't understand all the reviews, they were very quick and efficient, whether I was on the phone, emailing or in one of the branches. I travelled across America, booking all my flights with STA they didn't push any extras on us as we said we wanted to find all our hotels our selves, and the flights were fantastic value for money.
I found all the staff very helpful and accommodating, they helped us to change our flights and also took not of any special requirements. I ...

First of all, they never sent me my ticket, so at the last minute they had to issue me an electronic ticket. When I got to the airport, they didn't have my ticket in the system and said I would need to pay an additional $200 to get the paper ticket STA lost reissued. I called STA, and was able to get them to reissue my ticket AGAIN just before my flight took off. Second of all, just three weeks after I left to study abroad, I decided I wanted to extend my stay (quite common, right?). So I ca ...

Seriously one of the worst online experiences you could imagine. Every other online agency has at least a 24hour cooling off period, not these guys.
Anyway utter rubbish. Will never use them again.

I would not use STA travel again, it's much better to do your own research and find hostel accomodation, trips etc. We were badly out of pocket due to them, we ended up with products that we did not want. When we went to cancel, we were charged a lot of money as we were not aware of the cancellation charges until after we got home. By then it was too late. There is no 'cooling off' period.

I booked with STA travel and they were extremely efficient. They were quick, found the best and cheapest fare and were always friendly. I feel the company gives a lot of support, so I do not understand previous entries. Also, their devotion to support projects is amazing! Which other travel agency offers such complex service? Check out the online community with trip planners and blogs, it is absolutely worth it!

Please don't use STA for your own sanity and blood pressure. Quite frankly I am absolutely disgusted with this company and wish something could be done to prevent people like me being treated this way.

STA are quick to get your money. After that, customer service or any other service they provide is terrible! Never buying anything from them again.

STA Travel are awful travel agents! They added prices to fares without any reasoning. I was charged £20 for an Australian Visa worth £6, and they charged me double what Qantas charge to change a flight.

When traveling abroad, I got stuck at the borders when coming back to the US because the STA TRAVEL agent had misspelled my name in all the documents (hence it did not match my passport).

Very sloppy service, and uncoutreous agents at the Tempe, AZ location. Because they deal with young students, they seem to believe that being polite with customers is optional.

It's easier and quicker to find a good deal on the Internet than through STA Travel... and you won't feel treated like dirt! ...
