I bought this laptop in Moscow, I have dragged it all over the former soviet union, it been to most of Western Europe and now lives in Australia as the spare laptop at home, apart from a little maintenance, like cleaning the fans it is the best laptop I have ever had, I also have a Dell now newer and more powerful but it will never change my views on my Tosh satellite SA 30 -203, it has also been used in temperatures below - 30C and never missed a beat! Strongly recommended requires respect and it will respect the user, keep clean.

I was bought this laptop by my father in 2003 I think it was £850 pretty average for a decent laptop then, it was to replace a packard bell I was bought a week earlier (I was young and stupid) the packard bell actually blew up sparks and everything, this was the replacement and I was pleased enough until three weeks later when it began overheating and shutting off when running the simplest of programs, I bought fan assisters I propped it up on books I got a pro to clean the heat sink and ...

I added a 3.06GHZ Hyper Threading CPU and 1GB of RAM to it plus a wifi card and the thing is brilliant. It still outperforms many of todays machines as far as I am concerned. Recommended.
A great looking machine with great performance and even better potential. Well recommend the Toshiba Satellite A30-203.

Well constructed, overall I well recommend this Toshiba Satellite Laptop. Infact the only bad thing I can say about this laptop is when it freezes up, it takes a while to unfreeze. But apart from that, go for this model - A30-203.

I was given this laptop by my boss to work from home. Still cannot add it to my Wireless Home Network (2 laptops & a PC!). Definitely not a business machine!
The heating up problem has been partially resolved as I bought a cheap laptop fan from eBay!
It might've been OK in 2003, but it is definitely a NO-NO for 2008.

I've had an A30-203 for the best of four years now it's never been a problem, I have a regular maintenance program every week, it just runs like a dream, I cannot understand anyone moaning about it.
Like most things in today's world you've got to look after them, a computer is like your car; it needs attention on a regular basis. Don't keep bunging it up with rubbish downloads and then telling everybody it's no bloody good, when it's your own fault.

I formatted and reinstalled windows xp and the software that I wanted runs like an absolute dream now. - After reinstalling software properly (not from the recovery disks supplied) It has improved performance dramatically especially after putting the memory up to 512mb. Never had a problem with it. As for overheating problems mentioned by other users as long as the laptop is left with clear space underneath it's fine. Would have been better if the air vents were on top though, because a lot ...

Everyone's problems with these laptops over heating is easy to solve...
Just use the nozzle on your vacuum cleaner and give the fans a good clean out. You can go one step further and take your laptop apart, but I've found a good blast with the hoover every 2 - 3 months has sorted my problem out with it overheating. Another good idea mentioned by a few people is to make sure that the cooling fans are not blocked when using the Toshiba Satellite Pro A30-204 laptop.
I hope this helps if anyone ...

I've had the Toshiba Satellite A30-203 laptop for about 2 and a half years, and it has broken down at least 6 times, and at the moment it is broken. I have paid almost half the price of the actual laptop on repairs. OVER HEATING, POOR GRAPHICS AND OVER PRICED FOR ITS POOR QUALITY OF EVERYTHING.

2. June 2005, not booting into Windows, replaced drive to Toshiba

This is an excellent laptop with easy to locate upgrade panels underneath and wi-fi, there has been some talk of overheating problems on it, i think like any laptop it needs room to cool ,so placing it on a surface that will constrict the vents underneath will cause problems, they all need airflow underneath so i always place it on an hard surface and i have no problems!

I have bought a small ergonomic extra ven, for cooling.
But when you use this Toshiba Satellite A30-203 properly, it will live very long! I am still glad I bought it!

Since I've had my Toshiba Satellite A30-203 laptop I have had no fewer that six problems; ranging from faulty recovery CD's to the keyboard falling apart (£60)! It overheats, and the Intel graphics card is pathetic, and has been known to increase the chance of overheating, but apparently this can be fixed by using a hoover, but I have yet to try it.
I am also experiencing weird problems on shutdown, when the screen brings up loads of random images when its supposed to be turned off., I t ...

My laptop is not the A30-203, it is the Toshiba Satellite A30-504 or something. It has been sitting broken for a while now (but this is not down to the laptop's unreliability as I dropped it) but from what I remember it was a fairly fast, powerful machine but with bad battery life. The blue casing is still fairly attractive and all the controls feel solid and well-built. The keyboard looks cheap, though. To be honest, I don't know who this laptop is aimed at, because it is a P4 and the battery l ...

I have had my Toshiba A30 laptop for 24 months now. Ever since I have had it I have had problems with it overheating. After finding this site, I am a little happier that other people have had the same problems. I have to raise it up to increase the air flow to stop it turning itself off!!! I guess I will never be able to get this problem fixed!

The first thing when I got my Toshiba Satellite A30-203 was upgrade to 1024 RAM and fitted an internal wireless adapter/54Mbit. The RAM speeds up everything, and makes the A30 fast. and internal adapter is better that PC- Card rubbish.
This is a good laptop, pretty nippy but not the fastest by any means.
Small hard drive is annoying.
It never crashes on me.
Overheating is avoided by sucking the dust out of the fans with a Vacuum cleaner, then it runs like new, very smoothly!
Looks sexy.

The Toshiba Satellite A30-203 "Laptop" cannot be used on your lap. If you support it on some books, leaving a big airspace under it, it often works for hours. On a lap, it will overheat and turn itself off after a few minutes, losing all your work.
Even more irritating, Goes into thinking mode, hanging itself every few seconds. Each time the fan changes speed, your typing no longer inputs, then when the fan stabilizes, the input acts at random, often trashing work. In practice, you can type f ...

I bought this Toshiba Satellite A30-203 laptop 5 months ago. It has a big known issue of overheating. It starts to be hot and noise, and then it reboots itself. It happened to a lot of my friends as well. Don't buy it.
