“enjoyed our mini break ”

written by on 12/08/2013

We have just got bk from the sight it was really good, the caravan was clean, we ate on sight and it was ok apart from the staff being run off there feet. We had Sunday carvery it wasn't worth the money so don't bother with that. And if you want a seat at the club get early as fills up fast. Over all the kids enjoyed it and we ate going to book again :-)

“2nd year not impressed”

★★★★☆

written by maudy1 on 18/07/2011

this was our 2nd year at cala gran the 1st year was out of season but far better. Our accomodation was fantastic however there was a carpet in the bathroom/shower area which i found a little off putting. If you are going make sure you take all your cash with you as you are charged to withdraw money from the atm on site there is only 2. This was the first year we ate at the resturant and we sat down to the cavery which was the most disgusting food i have ever been served, the turkey was pink the beef full of fat, yorkshire puddings could have broken a window they where that hard. Asked my 6 year if she wanted to take part in the kids clubs read out to her what was on and she wasnt impressed as it was all too babyish for her. the funstars seemed to be short staffed and rather exhausted there was a viral going about as all of them seemed to be taken unwell, and most with the exception of 2 didnt seem very interested in the kids, it was all about their own voice and looking at them. shop on site prices are shocking and it does seem that they are taking advantage. bike hire cost £10 for 1 hour which again seemed rather high previously done bike hire at another haven site and it only cost £5.00 ish but not £10.00. we lost our cards to get into the main complex security where good enough to allow us in and advised their would be a small charge to replace the cards the small charge is £5.00 per card so we lost 3 however the receptionist replaced them free of charge on this occassion so please be careful. this is the last year we will be holiday at the cala gran site, and for what the holiday costs its very similar to going abroad so we will try that next year, but we have been to haven in port seaton and haggerston and we do feel that we would return but not for main summer holidays.

Just back from a week at Cala Gran with my wife and 2 yuear old daughter, we booked via the sun £9.50 holidays and arrived on the monday, the caravan we had was just standard accomidation but was excellent, clean, tidy, spotless, and everything we needed i.e cups, pans, cutlery, kettle, tv (if i had to moan about anything it would be it didnt have a dvd player) The entertainment was ok, probably better in peak season but for the kids it was brilliant, not 2 much 2 do if ur an adult. Swimming pool was ideal for the kids nice and warm and the arcade has alot more than i could have imagined, there is an asda 5 mins down the road which we used to stock up but there is a spar on site. Overall everything was excellent and i would definatly go again. I read some horror reviews before we went but without a doubt was excellent.

written by on 02/01/2011

I stayed at Cala Gran last July with 3 young children (they were then 7 years and 8 month twins) and we had a lovely time!
I read all the review sites before we booked and since a lot of complaints seemed to be about the state of the Haven owned caravans we booked a private caravan and it was absolutely fantastic - caravans have certainly improved since I was little, very spacious, good facilities and most important of all clean! (I would highly recommend using the caravan owned by Joanne and Marc Barber on rentaholidaycaravan.com site)!

The park itself was ok, clean and peaceful, its not a place Id recommend for those with older children but for the under 10s its brilliant, my eldest thoroughly enjoyed all the kids clubs and shows, the swimming pool is a little on the small side and has 1 slide but again its brilliant for the smaller 1s.
An added bonus is that Farmer Parrs is near enough opposite the park.
The facilities on the site were ok though it got little wearing that you had to walk through the pub and arcade to get to anything. The onsite shop was ok, full of the usual holiday tat but had all the essentials there too and the laundarette was clean with fast machines.
We are just in the process of booking our next holiday there!

We've just returned from Cala Gran, got it at a bargain price of £139 for 4 adults and 2 kids, luxury 8berth caravan. The park is much smaller than we expected, but is only 6 miles from Blackpool, easy to get to by car, and the bus stop is right outside the park. Our caravan was lovely, very modern, great size and was spotlessly clean. I have to admit I was worried about what to expect after reading some reviews, but i can honestly say we were very pleased with our accomodation. The park itself doesnt have a lot of facilities. The entertainment is quite poor, only a few staff doing the shows each night, but my 5 year old loved the singing and dancing. There is a short bingo game each evening, and the arcade is good for teenagers. There is a small softplay area in the pub, and the pool is really small too.Luckily it wasnt main holiday season, as I think you'd struggle to get into the pool or get a seat in the club if it was much busier. All in all it was a good base to be close to Blackpool, we were happy with our caravan, but I dont think I'd want to spend more than what we paid!

written by on 12/07/2010

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at Cala Gran and the whole family enjoyed it. We were due to check in at 4pm but the evening before we got a phone call to say we could check in anytime after 11 as our caravan was ready, this suited us perfectly as we had 3 young children with us and could get them settled for an afternoon nap. Blackpool is very easy to get to from the park as there is a bus right outside the gates and its £8 for a family day ticket, this is great value as parking in Blackpool is expensive. We found the staff very friendly and helpful and our caravan was nice and clean. The kids really enjoyed the entertainment in the showbar and the pool activities. The only negative we had was that we signed up for family archery and when we got there the instructor was useless and uninterested in showing us anything, there were no safety equipment or a children's sized bow, my 7 year old found it difficult to use the adult sized one and my husband's arm is all bruised from no padding being provided. We complained to the sports manager who couldn't apologise enough and provided us with a day of free family sports to make up for it as they do have safety equipment and children's bows, just seemed like the instructor couldn't be bothered getting the ready. The park can be expensive there is always something being sold in the showbar and the kids just have to have it, glowing things, photographs etc. Overall we enjoyed our time at Cala Gran and would recommend people to try it for themselves and make up their own mind about it.

“Just returned from a 4 night mid-week break at Cala...”

★★★★☆

written by Health Hazard on 04/06/2010

Just returned from a 4 night mid-week break at Cala Gran, Haven which was booked last minute. Although there are mixed reviews about this park, I have to say we had a pleasant and relaxing time.

Positives
The caravan. The best we'd ever stopped in. Very modern and up-to-date fixtures and fittings. Lots of space for all of us. Good location on the park too.
The weather. Every British holiday is better with good weather. We'd have been a bit stuck without it and unable to experience the outdoor swimming area.
Mash & Barrel. Perfectly acceptable food and a good atmosphere with a small play area. The flies were a little off-putting though.

Negatives
Security. There is no security (apart from after 6pm on the doors of the main complex). Why is this problem? Well, child protection for one. Also, anyone could drive, or walk, on use the facilities (swimming pool) and happily drive, or walk away...without paying a penny!
Swimming Pool. Too small and very busy. I think they have a 1 in 1 out policy during busy periods.
Check-in. Bit of a cattle market to say the least. Lots of people (not us) angry that they weren't checked in until 4pm...but that's the time it says on the booking confirmation!
Main Complex. Looks a bit tired in places. Didn't dare drop anything on the carpet! Also, the quality of entertainment does not replicate that of other parks (not that a 5 year old notices)!

In Conclusion
On the face of it, Cala Gran (to some people) may be an out-dated holiday park that has seen better days. Admittedly, areas of the park could do with a bit of sprucing up...but I could say the same about areas of Butlins (which we love). This is the second Haven Park we've visited and we preferred this one to Golden Sands. We definitely think more of Haven than we do of Pontin's (that place still gives me the creeps).
We took a risk in booking Cala Gran but it paid off. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.

“we have just returned from a 3 night weekend break at...”

★★★★☆

written by on 27/04/2010

we have just returned from a 3 night weekend break at cala gran. the park itself was absolutely fine and myself and family did have a really good time there. However, i was disappointed on arrival in our caravan - which was an upgrade, to find a kitchen floor which obviously hadnt been swept because it was covered in crumbs and bits, the carpet had loads of stains on it and lots of bits on it too.....but the worst problem was the state of the bathroom - it absolutely stunk of stale urine, so before I could unpack i found myself cleaning the bathroom floor to try and get rid of the smell. The caravan cleaners hadn't really done anything other than make the beds (which was good as this normally doesnt get done)and wipe around the kitchen surfaces obviously scooting all the bits onto the floor.

My other issue was coat hangers, we had 8 hangers in our caravans - however 6 of them were childrens hangers and were miles too small for adults clothing - obviously left by other guests, next time I shall provide my own.

The weather was good whilst we were there but the caravan was still freezing at night, there is only one gas fire in the lounge area, so no heat in the bedroom - so if you are going to stay in the haven caravan parks i would recommend taking a little heater with you.

Enough moaning, the club is really nice as is the arcade and the swimming pool and generally, we had a lovely time and we shall still continue with our haven holiday breaks - next time armed with my cleaning supplies!!!!

written by on 18/04/2010

We have just returned from a 7 day holiday - we actually booked mon to fri for £115 and Fri to Mon for £164 - total £280 - to book as a mon to Mon was £480!?!?

When we got there the caravan was quite small but we had been upgraded to a 2010 model caravan so was very clean.

STAFF - very nice and Fun Stars were the best I have seen, very good with the children.

ATTRACTIONS - Farmer Parrs farm within walking distance which is £15 for a family ticket 2 ad & 2 chd tickets - nice morning/afternoon out.

Blackpook front & zoo & fleetwood are close by and nice for younger children.

VENUE - The tables are a bit naff - they are literally a standard table chopped in half with the same amouunt of chairs which my kids nearly knocked over on a regular basis - also - becuse the ratio or chairs to tables is so high most routes to bars/toilets get blocked quicky and therefore a tour of the whole showbar is needed to get anywhere.

SECURITY - I was a bit disappointed by this as the park is totally open and has no security guard/barrier - therefore anybody can walk/drive around the park - which is quite worrying with little ones (some adults let their children play in the park un-supervised which I wouldnt do anyway but even if I did the lack of security would put me off from doing so).

Apart from that I would highly recommend this park.

“I've just returned from spending Easter Week at Cala...”

★★★★☆

written by on 12/04/2010

I've just returned from spending Easter Week at Cala Gran in Fleetwood. We had a lovely time and would certainly return to the park again. Like all our Haven experiences, you get what you pay for and we knew it would be basic accommodation. However we were pleasantly surprised by our caravan, which was a 3 bedroom standard plus (46 Wyre Court on the complex). It had new carpet throughout, tv with freeview, was spotless and large enough to accommodate the 3 adults and 2 kids easily. The only niggles we had were that the toilet seat was broken (fixed within an hour of calling reception) and when we woke up to find the gas had run out, it took 3 hours for them to replace it, despite having told us we were second on the list. The bedroom heaters also aren't up to much. I tried leaving them on all night but they started to make a buzzing sound and woke me up. However the gas fire in the living room was very good and warmed the caravan up nicely.
Another downside was that the kitchen wasn't very well equipped. We had two saucepans, one with broken handle, and no utensils to cook with, i.e not even a serving spoon. I think Haven expect their guests to eat in the Mash and Barrel everynight. The oven was tempermental too, but I've found that to be the same in most caravans and presume it's to do with the gas supply.

Our caravan was situated very close to the main amenities but we weren't bothered by noise at all, except for the pumped up music coming from passing chavs cars on an evening. We were also just a few yards from the 'nature reserve' which is advertised as one of the park attractions on Havens site. We wondered why the staff laughed at us when we asked for directions to the nature reserve. We soon found out when we located it. It is literally no bigger than 10 metres by 4 metres and contains a few trees and some bird boxes. The information signs rather optimistically tells you to look out for badgers but we never saw any lol.

The park is small by Haven standards which we liked. The kids enjoyed playing on the mini golf (£3.50) and also on the free playground. The swimming pool is small but has a slide and they went several times. We spent most evenings sat in the Mash and Barrell as we preferred that to the noisier show bar. It does tend to have football on the big screens all the time though.

The park is about 8 miles from Blackpool. There is a bus stop opposite the park and the number 14 bus will take you there. There is also a Morrissons and an Asda very close by. The onsite Spar shop is rubbish really and mostly just contains Haven memorobilia.

On the whole we had a great holiday. The staff were all very friendly, especially the bar staff in the Mash and Barrell. On our last night we managed to 'lose' the little boy in our party. Much panic ensued for ten minutes. The security staff were on the ball and sprung into action straightaway. Of course we discovered the little monkey parked in front of the big screen tv watching the ManUtd match, but we felt very grateful to the prompt reaction of the staff. You can't get into the main complex without showing your pass either, which made us feel safer with the kids.

Just back from cala gran 25th - 28th sept 2009. The whole family enjoyed it. The caravan could have been a little cleaner but other than that the kids loved it. The pool isnt ideal for small children but if you go at a quieter time its fine. We would definitely go back next year for a short break.

written by on 25/09/2009

myself and partner spent friday to monday 18-23 september in a superior plus caravan for £99 at Cala Gran. Got no transport so got to blackpool by coach, caught no 14 bus to Haven caravan site (took about 25 mins).Really easy to find and bus stops outside gates for blackpool or fleetwood the other side of road. Caravan was brill, nice n clean, 3 bedrooms, shower was the best ever out of any caravan we have used, Full size cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave, combi boiler and centrall heating in every room. Very glad we didnt stay in hotel at blackpool.
Complex had arcade, swimming pool, sports bar, family bar, snack bar, putting or mini golf, footy pitch, small kids play area. All the kids there seemed to be having a good time ??? But mine all grown up so didnt really have to consider that !!!
Only moan we got was the handing out of keys at 4 oclock when everone checking in gathered in entertainment room and had to line up with raffle tickets 50 at a time , did not take that long though, swimming pool quite small and complex not as big as advertised, think we were expecting butlins size at skeggy.(OH and a man moan remote didnt work for tv) We had a brill time n any way we only paid 99 quid , how can anyone moan at that !!!! we would go back

We(3 of us, myself, husband and baby) have just come back from a stay at the cala gran haven site, we stayed in a prestige caravan which was lovely and spacious, very clean and tidy. We enjoyed the show of Bradley bear on the night time, my four month old baby was loving it! The only thing we did not like was the pool, to small and overcrowded to take our baby to. We ventured into fleetwood which we really enjoyed (small fishing town) , lots of character! Would definitely recommend this site to friends

We went to Haven Cala Gran for 4 nights from the 10th to the 15th August. It was judt myself and my 2 girls, aged 11 and 4 who went, and we had a fab time. there is room for improvement, the soft play area is just a slide and the park has nothing in it, but i thought all in all it was value for money. Our caravan was one of the basic ones, and a little old but it was inhabitable. you get what you pay for. we are due to go back in October in a superior plus caravan, so hopefully it'll be much better. Oh, avoid the on site chip shop, its really vile!!!!

I read the previous reviews and was a little concerned but discovered that there was nothing at all to be concerned about.
Our Haven Holidays, Cala Gran caravan was comfortable, spacious & clean.
The site was perfect for myself and my two girls (11 & 9)..... we actually found it better than our previous trips to Butlins resorts as we found this site more compact and therefore better personal service/customer relations.
We loved the breakfast, smiley staff & outside spotless decking area in the sun & the evening entertainment was really good.

I am a single parent family with two young infants and we went to the Cala Gran Haven site in Fleetwood. Although out of season we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Really only going of the site once to visit the farm which is located over the road. My children went to the Rory Club which they enjoyed. At that time of year there is an outside park which my children played on but the bouncy castle was not up or the outside trampolines was not open. The food in the restaurant is expensive but I only go on holiday once a year but I did tend to cook in the caravan more. The accommodation was a Silver, it was fine for what i paid for it. There one or two marks on the carpet, a few tears in the upholstery. Kitchen and bedrooms were very nice, but you don't go on holiday to stop in your caravan. My holiday was the first week in October 2007 and we had beautiful weather.
