Good Points: Great value for the money, beautiful styling, great gas mileage, great ride and handling and easy to service.
Bad Points: HORRIBLE dash design. The steering wheel hides every guage, the speedometer, the tachometer, the high beam indicator and BOTH turn signal indicators. That must have required some real planning!
General comments: Awesome truck for the money. I bought my Dodge Dakota Regular Cab Sport 4 Cylinder Truck new in October of 2000 for $10,899 during a special promotion Dodge was having. It is a 5-speed, and the only option is air, though I have since added a number of after-market items such as a grill guard, driving lights, R/T wheel flares, a bed cover, body side moldings, striping, sun roof and a high performance exhaust. The 4 cylinder provides adequate but far from spirited performance. The fuel mileage has been a consistent 23 mpg in city driving, which is worth some sacrifice in stop-light grand-standing. I get lots of positive comments about the truck's looks. The Sport is a beautiful truck, and the body color grill and bumpers on the 2001 model make it especially good-looking. I have had not one problem with the truck in the 4 and 1/2 years I have owned it. It is used for light hauling and camping, and serves those functions flawlessly.
Unfortunately Dodge has unwisely discontinued both the 4 cylinder engine and the regular cab, so I will be going back to Ford for my next small truck.
