I have a 1.8 petrol which flys through the mot, starts every time, had to get starter motor fixed at 69000 £80 but far less problems than my friends have with scenics. Value for money has been fantastic, I will keep hold of the car untill its dying day it owes me nothing. If you are not a badge snob you could do far worse and I would buy another one… Read Full Review

Written on: 15/03/2010

I bought the Carens from new (the current version). I was pleasently suprised with the performance: More than adequate, in addition, I have obtained 63 mpg on a slow night drive (c.50mph)and regularly get up to 46 -50 mpg with a light foot.

PROBLEMS! 1.) The drivers door pull only just caught the catch to pull the door open. They replaced it under warranty. 2.) The roof rack rail stuck and was replaced, also under warranty. 3.) WORST OF ALL, The clutch is slipping under acceleration, mostly… Read Full Review

I found this review very helpful because... I too have a Kia Carens, it is 22 month old and needed a new CLUTCH at about 16000 miles , under warranty, now at 24000 miles it has started slipping again!

Written on: 17/01/2010

I have an 05 crdi carens and the gearbox no longer selects 4th and grinds into 3rd
my mechanic tells me its the synchro hub
all this at a mere 53000 mls

this will cost about £1000 with labour and parts to sort
by rebuilding the gearbox
and fitting a new clutch as that is now slipping... sigh

Enquiries for a second hand box :-

rare as hens teeth
everyone wants £550 plus vat
they all have about the same milage as the original (50-55,000miles) so its a risk

Kia Customer services told me to… Read Full Review

Written on: 08/11/2009

I have the carens 2.0litre diesel automatic 7 seat LS CRDi model. It is very reliable, comfortable and has plenty of cabin space. the only thing I don't like is the foot operated parking brake but being an automatic gearbox their is one pedal less to worry about! I would certainly buy another one and have no hesitation in recomending it to anyone. My previos car was a Nissan X-Trail and apart from the 4 wheel drive on the Nissan the Carens beats it in all areas… Read Full Review

I bought my carens after my daughter purchased one, (I was so impressed.)
I took it back within a short time with the engine misfiring on acceleration in second gear at 2000 revs.at first i was told it needed a comp download, after this failed to fix the fault I took it back to our local dealer and rang Kia uk. they inform me the problem is the exhaust gas recovery valve, this I am told will be put right when Kia have found a solution to the problem. it then had a leaking water hose ,another… Read Full Review

We have the same problem with the exhaust gas recover valve. Has yours been fixed now? We've been back to Kia who tell us there's nothing wrong!!

Sincerely, I would love to own a BMW or Jaguar but even as i plan to change my KIA Carens , i find it difficult to resist going back to pick up the new model Carens. It's me again updating my review of January 2009.
<br/>After 105,000 miles in 4 years and 9 months and not a single breakdown, i eventually decided to let go of this car that has served me so wonderfully well. I replaced it with a Chrysler 300C and i still have my eyes on the new model Kia Carens as a second vehicle.

Written on: 12/12/2008 by john171 (1 review written)

I bought this Kia Carens at six months old in 2003 from a Kia dealer, it has now done 52000 miles, it no been reliable, it had a new injector under warranty, the brakes were binding the dealer didn't want to know. It's had new disc and pads three times at £300 a time, then the injectors failed again the kia could not find the problem. It was taken to a diesel specialist. Kept there for 10 days cost of £400 18 months ago. This week it had to be towed to kia as a none starter. they did a… Read Full Review

What do you mean by solid, not very sturdy car but very reliable. I have owned CRDI EX Bought in Spain, 2005. Drop back seat release very bad quality and broke after using only twice. Had to replace with home made alternative. Body very light feeling to it. Door handle mechanism cheap plastic, again home made repair to make better. Performance very good, now 95kilometers and drives good. Just passed VOSA UK test with flying colours. 8/10 overall. Martin in Scotland.

Test-drove a Kia Carens LX manual model. Nice torque/power. Bought the 2008 EX model CRDi A/T aqua-blue. I am greatly satisfied with the power, comfort and safety feature of my KIA Carens. With the price increase of the EX 2008 model, Kia should have retained the most of the good 2007 features… Read Full Review

It was my own fault, got carried away with the brand new car thing, in the show room & what appeared to be a good deal. Should have waited for the new type to come out a couple of month later but did not realise what a difference they would be.

Could not stand the noise any longer and sold my 6 month old car for a 3 year Fiat, what a difference, can actually talk to somebody whilst driving.

5 year Warranty is good as long as you understand it does not cover the entire car and they have to… Read Full Review

This is to all buyers out there thinking of buying "thinking peoples car" Kia Carens. Do not do not touch them.
I bought mine from a private seller 2 months ago thinking good value 03 registration 38K miles on the clock, automatic for £5000 with small scratches and no obvious problem.
First I need to have spare key; contact to Kia dealer Hummingbird in Collindale £90.00 incl VAT for a spare key no choice accepted it. Paid £41.00 for initial key and rest to paid when the key is logged in by… Read Full Review

Written on: 07/04/2005 by lawrencem780 (1 review written)

I have owned our Kia Carens CRDi LE for the last 10 months, we have found the Carens to be a very comfortable car on all journeys. We have travelled through France with the car clocking up nearly 600 miles in one day with very little of the usual aches and pains that one normally receives from other cars. The car has good economy for a vehicle of it's size, generally it is a very cost effective car when compared to other models in it's range… Read Full Review
