My scooter, a 2004 Vespa 200 GT, has run perfectly for 4 years and 6 months it has 5000 miles and all services done by the dealer.
I developed a miss and thought it was bad fuel. It seems that my kill switch, that I never used, had corrosion or faulty wiring. By switching the kill switch on and off several times we corrected 90 % of my problems.
Now, if the scooter sits for more than 24 hours it is very difficult to start. After cranking for several minutes, with no succuess, I will let it sit for five minutes and it will start instantly and run perfect for about three miles and then the scooter will die and it takes about 5 minutes before it will start up again.
I have changed the fuel tap, checked all vacuum lines, installed a new electrical antenna and removed the spark plug and found no excessive fuel. Any suggestions?

I have had my Vespa GT200L since November 2005. I put 5000 miles on it in less than one year, then got disconcerted because my dealer (now out of business) actually damaged the scooter. I finally took it to someone who repaired the damage and got it running great. I have put 3000 miles on it in since June and it is now great. It is stylish, smooth, powerful and reliable. It is stable cornering and running on the highway at 70+ mph. In addition to this it is practical at 70+ miles per gallo ...- Read Guest's review (113 words)

I have a GT 200 (2006) and it has just under 1000 mi on it. The scooter has started shutting off (dying) after slowing down and going to idle. It will not restart. I have had it towed to the Vepa dealer 3 times and have spent over $700.00. Picked it up yesterday, drove home (5 miles) and died in my garage. Will not start. Had a major blow-up with the dealer so can't take it back. Anyone else haveing a related issue? Dealer claims to have replaced all major electrical components.- Read davimt's review (109 words and 1 comment)

After years on Honda VFR750 (Interceptor in the US) and Cagiva Raptor 650 - I bought a scooter because I moved to Singapore - city state, max. speed 90km/hour (about 55mph). Don't have enough self-control to use a big bike that slowly but the Vespa GT200 has been brilliant. Perfect for in town and hit's an indicated 120km/hour on the main routes around town. Conmfortable, solid and well finished, I wouldn't dream of changing it - except I'd really like to try the 300cc version they now have in I ...- Read ken Muir's review (236 words)

I picked up my scoot used, but only a year old. Rides great and is fast and smooth on city streets. I haven't taken it on the freeway, but have gotten it up to freeway speed. No problems with it at all, great gas milage and only adds 10 minutes to the commute over my car.- Read Guest's review (71 words)

They didn't tell me about the vapor lock issue until after I had put my money down. I put about 133 miles per week on this scooter commuting to work during the week. I give it weekends off. I've been adding gas as instructed by the mechanic at the place I bought it. "Wait till the low fuel light comes on then add 2 gallons or less." On average I add 2.07 gallons per fill up, and I usually ride it more than 15 miles after the refill light comes on. I kept it below 55 during the break in until af ...- Read idkrash's review (305 words)

Solid feel. The Vespa GT200 is able to easily keep up with traffic. gas mileage (65 mpg). Traditional scooter look. Liquid cooled which is important here in the central california valley where summer temperatures routinely reach 100 degrees.
I've been riding motorcycles for over 40 years. This is my first scooter and it's more fun that any of the motorcycles I've owned. It has become my daily commuter. The GT has enough power to easily keep up with freeway traffic and I'm not complaining about t ...- Read papadave's review (99 words)

Fuel tank overflow is a big problem as there is no way to accurately guage when the pump shutoff should stop the gas from going into the tank. It overflows into the under seat compartment and onto the right side of the scooter at every fill up unless I stop with about 1/4 tank capacity remaining. The engine is cheesy for something that is supposed to be top of the line. It dies every time I stop in hot weather and when I turn the idle up, it idles way too high in the mornings. Turn signals are v ...- Read Guest's review (188 words)

I've been riding for 40 years and have owned probably 20 motorcycles, but the Vespa GT200 is my first scooter and is easily the most fun to ride. I've made it my daily commuter and I actually look for longer routes to/from work so that I have an excuse to keep riding it.
Vespa's are definately more costly than other brands, but the quality cannot be beat. Fit and finish is first rate!- Read Guest's review (104 words)

I have had my Vespa GT200 for 2 years and 10000+ miles. It has enough speed and pickup for South California freeways, I feel as safe on it as on my Triumph Bonneville motorcyle. Very comfortable for commuting. My wife rides a Vespa ET4 but we just bought another GT200 for her. We ride together and receive many complements on our scooters. I would recommend this scooter over the smaller Vespas for the increased power, dual hydralic brakes, and increased comfort level. A very good scooter!- Read bikersteve's review (100 words)

It is fun to ride, but it is too fickle, not always reliable, and bad dollar value.
I have taken my Vespa GT200 scooter on trips over one hundred miles in distance; travelling from interstate 80, and 5 travelling from San Francisco. I would possibly do it again. I have experienced bad gas issues that I have never encountered before having a Vespa. The regular schedule maintenance is worse than my fianc , but just as costly. I also have encountered hard start problems, for one reason or anot ...- Read oneslimcat's review (106 words)

12 inch wheels, improved brakes, takes off like a dream, and most importantly the center of gravity on the Vespa GT200 is wonderful.
I have been riding Aprillas, ET4 and now GT 200, and I am in love with mine.- Read alkram's review (85 words)

The GT200 does lose some of the Vespa cuteness but it is still a great looking vehicle. Just bigger then the standard scooter. I take the wife out on it every weekend and we usually travel 20+ miles. It is my primary vehicle and I do not regret buying.- Read Doom66's review (64 words)

The Vespa GT200 scooter is my first motorized 2-wheeler. It is very easy to handle. It is quick off the line, and has more than enough power to commute in a major city. Vespa claims it can do highway speeds (110-120 kph), but I haven't tried - I don't have enough experience under my belt.
I have ridden in the cold, in pouring rain, on streetcar tracks, and on beautiful sunny days, and the scooter is faithful through it all. I have done 1300kms on it in 6 weeks.
The Vespa may cost more, ...- Read C Best's review (131 words)

The Vespa GT200 is the best scooter on the market! I have ridden and maintained many more and for a scooter 10/10. The only bad comments I have heard are from bike riders who compare them to bikes. ITS A SCOOTER YOU IDIOT! Just if you buy one get it from a good dealer...it could make all the difference.- Read dinlo54's review (69 words)

This is my first scooter. I have a Goldwing and the GT200. I am not riding my Goldwing because the Vespa is such a great commuter. It runs 65-70 on the freeway easy and gets almost 70mpg. Have had it to 77mph according to the speedo. It feels a lot like a BMW F650 I used to have...really. The handling is good with decent brakes. I love the twist and go in trafic. The GT200 is stable at speed, much more so than you would think. Skip the cheap Vespa topcase. I got it - it works but aftermarket ...- Read Pkitfox's review (137 words)

I'd been coveting a scooter for a while and could not decide between a classic(PX - geared but dodgy handling) or twist 'n' go (ET4-no gears,a bit effeminate). Then along came the Vespa GT200 Scooter and such was my luck that my local dealer had one with only 20 kilometers on the clock. 7 months on it still has only about 1200 - I'm only a fair weather rider - but each of those kilometers have been cherished. Not quite as wieldy as smaller scoots but very stable and great for beating the traffi ...- Read Bob Humphrys's review (137 words)
