GEM were excellent on the phone, really easy to deal with, asked several questions about safely that are re-assuring as my wife drives with our boy and is covered by GEM too. Breakdown contractor was a little slow, 1hr 4mins, but to be fair it was rush hour in winter. Breakdown truck guy was super helpful. Engine management light came on just before a 225 mile journey home with three young kids in the back. The helpline was fantastic and the operator did a great job asking all the right questions. He seemed to be genuinely concerned about making sure we were a priority as I had the kids. The mechanic was great, got straight to the problem. On a dark February evening, during a long journey from The Lake District to Somerset, we broke down in The Midlands. Alarmingly, a series of dashboard lights came on and so I pulled into a lay-by. i've been with GEM for two years now, and in that time have needed them four times. Each time the customer service assistant who answered the call has been pleasant and efficient, the assistance has arrived within the hour and the whole process has been completed with the minimum of fuss. Once when I was stranded with my young child, they rang back to check that I was ok while waiting. “two and a half hours!!!”

Have not used the breakdown service in my 3 years of membership until last week when my car at home would not start. Rang at 9.15am approx and was told 45 mins to an hour. Using that info I informed the important medical appt that I would be late by an hour. After numerous calls by GEM operators and myself, I eventually received attention at 11.40am, 145 minutes after my original phone call!!! What kind of service is this? When I couldn't get my bonnet to stay shut last week I had to call GEM for the first time since joining a couple of years ago, and was very happy with the service. I got through quickly and the GEM agent handled my call sympathetically and thoroughly, though I was a bit surprised at how many questions there were. She called a breakdown agent while I was on the line and that agent called me a few minutes later. “Motor breakdown service”

Had a minor disaster and put petrol in my beloved diesel! Called GEM who contacted a local recovery agent. Said he would attend in approx. one hour. In fact he turned up in just over 15 minutes. Courteous, friendly and worked out what I'd done in about 30 seconds. A recovery would have been more expensive so I arranged for Fuel Fixers to attend. Zoltan did a great job in syphoning out the wrong fuel and providing some fresh diesel. He was able to start the car to get me on my way. Hope I never… Read Full Review

Wish there could have been a Maybe section to would I recommend a friend. I have been a member for a few years and had my first experience of a breakdown recently. I found that the staff were helpful and friendly and kept in touch when they said they would whilst I waited on my own late at night, on a very cold evening for the breakdown team - which was really positive. Thanks for getting me home. My one gripe would be that I stated from the start that a recovery to home or garage would be needed, as I had experienced a total brake failure and wanted the car checked out fully by a garage before using the car again. I think your staff acknowledged this, but the mechanic who turned up did not come in a recovery vehicle.
