Having left my parking lights on while my car was parked in my Garage for two days I found the Battery to be completely flat. Having no method of starting the car I phoned GEM, once the trouble was explained they arranged for a local recovery vehicle to attend and boost start my motor. From first phoning GEM to the car being started was 30 minutes, very good service. This was my first use of Gem who I have been a member of since 2009. Waited almost 2 hours for recovery due to rather than using a local breakdown service from Lincoln 4 miles away which would take 10 minutes to arrive they used a company from Heckington which took over an hour to get to us ...totally confused ? Even more concerning was the attitude of the customer service staff who spoke to me like I'm some kind of idiot for even questioning her decision not to use a local company !… Read Full Review

Unfortunately it took the lady at GEM 10 wasted minutes to find us on the map after starting out so promisingly with the correct area she then went to the other end of the country. This is after providing the route road number and confirming at the beginning that she was on the correct highway. After eventually finding me a vehicle was dispatched but would then take about 40 minutes to arrive. I must say I have had other very good instances where I have had no bother at all. Having promised to drive a friend to a very expensive holiday he had booked I discovered that the car would not start and panic set in! The call centre was efficient and reassuring. This was not an emergency as I was on my drive unable to start the car. However after this (my first) experience of using your breakdown service, I will now feel safe wherever I am driving knowing how effective this service is and how well looked after your customers are - from staff answering phone and logging call (I love that the first question is: 'are you safe'), to garage who came out to the call and rang my house phone to check I was OK because I was not in when they arrived. Broke down just outside Lincoln a relatively large city , phoned recovery at 3.55 pm they finally arranged a recovery vehicle at 4.25 from Heckington a small village one hour away instead of contracting a local breakdown company from Lincoln five minutes away ?... when I complained to the customer services I was spoken to like some kind of idiot ! My Vespa died on me 6 miles from home, and i called GEM not really knowing whether my cover extended to 2 wheeled vehicles. But sure enough it did and within 45 mins a specialist Bike rescue van arrived. He tried some basics while the bike was in the back of his van, but couldnt make it go. Asked if i wanted to take the bike home, or to a bike shop. Bike shop seemed better to work out what was wrong, and there is a Piaggio place nearby. My car broke down on the way to work, I rang GEM and was put straight through to a very helpful advisor who took all the details and said that a garage should be with me in about 40 mins although it could be up to an hour, depending on traffic. A mechanic arrived in a van within 20 minutes. Unfortunately the problem couldn't be fixed by the roadside so he rang in for a recovery truck, which arrived within 10 minutes. “We got rescued after many hours”

When updating our motorhome we asked if our policy would cover the length, after confirmation we renewed our cover. When we broke down the mechanics and truck driver where fantastic however we was threatened with a massive bill from your operator if our van was 24ft which it was. After being given the wrong information before paying for our cover I was not happy. Eventually the operator agreed and I was rescued at your expense, but now not covered. Overall very impressed,i. Was kept informed of what was happening and the recovery vehicles arrived in good time . I was pleased to be offered a courtesy car for the homeward journey as we had an injured dog who needed to travel with us.Your agent was very helpful in sorting out a suitable car. This is the first time I have had to use GEM since I joined in 2011 First the positive, the guy who attended was very pleasent and was most helpful However I am glad the car was on my driveway as the callout was very slow. Ok I did say no great rush when I phoned in but the promised 1 hour arrival was no where near met, hope I don't breakdown on the hard shoulder and have to wait this long… Read Full Review

Had to call Gem on a Sat morning 9 ish to a holiday cottage. Very quick to answer call, The individual gave me confidence that all would be sorted quickly and easily, with min fuss. Even asking things like do we have a dog with us ( which could have been an important oversight) if we needed to get trailered home as we do indeed have a dog. 1/2 later `man with van` turned up and got us going. he again was very polite and light hearted.
