Auto gear box of my elderly Volvo became locked in the "Park" position in Sainsbury's car park at lunch-time last Sunday. Help arrived within 30 minutes, problem solved in five minutes, including discovery of a squirrel's hoard of hundreds of nuts under the bonnet. Cheerful driver followed me home (3 miles) to ensure all was OK. Am most grateful for prompt service and driver's attitude that nothing was too much trouble. Worst possible time for the car not to start - Monday morning!!! Phoned GEM straight away, they answered after a couple of rings. Gave them all the details and said I'd get a text message from the garage saying how long they'd be. Got off the phone and within 5mins I'd received the text saying they'd be with me within 57mins! They got there after about 45mins. Got me started so I could get to my own garage. Sent the reclaim form off and got the money within 5 days. So easy to use… Read Full Review

When I called the centre I didn't have to hold long. My details were taken and the lady who took my call was very efficient. I explained that my mobile telephone battery was low and she said she would text the details of the recovery. She did and recovery was there within the hour (just) as she promised. Fuss free claim. “A good recovery”

The battery warning light came on in the car and the headlights slowly dimmed. It was evident to me that the alternator had failed, but I was determined to press on home, after a 12 hour night shift. It was 7 o'clock on a dark January morning, and after 10 miles i realised I would not make it home, so headed for a supermarket carpark that would be a safe place to stop. “Fast effective and value”

Always there on those rare occasions that you need them. The service works, works quickly, and gets the job done at a value for money price I called them, and the breakdown tow truck was there within the hour. The recovery man was not only polite, knowledgeable and respectful, he also recommended a garage that saved me money. Not only did that garage save me money, but i got a complex job done within days whereas elsewhere it would have taken at least a week So, i was back up and running… Read Full Review

Haing been a member of GEM for a number of years, and had nothing but praise for them however this changed when despite having family cover my Daughter was left stranded last night when she suffered a breakdown whilst out with her boyfirend. The call handler she spoke to informed her she was not covered as a passenger in another vehicle despite this being part of our family policy. This resulted in me contacting a breadown company to recover the vehicle at my cost despite having vover with GEM… Read Full Review

We have now resolved this matter with the member concerned who misunderstood the scope of our cover. All GEM Members (including registered family members) are able to gain breakdown/ recovery assistance in ANY car they are driving or if they are a passenger in their own car. This wide ranging cover is standard on all our schemes at no extra cost.

However, members who are merely passengers in other people’s cars are not covered. For instance in this case, it was the responsibility of the daughter’s boyfriend as it was his car, to arrange breakdown cover for himself.

I received a prompt and courteous response when calling the breakdown centre. They made a prompt referral to the breakdown/recovery contractor, who in turn was efficient in communication and quick to turn out. I was safely home within an hour of breaking down on a cold, wet, winter's night. An e-mail response from the claims department arrived within 24 hours of my despatching the claim form by post, i.e. same-day service. First-class service all the way… Read Full Review
