We have had our Memory Foam Mattress Topper now for three months which is long enough to write a review to say that we wouldn't now be without it. We bought a new bed and mattress (which my wife chose) but I found it too hard especially on my elbows and heels which were painful. We chose a 1-inch 55kg without a cover, simply putting it on top of our mattress then our sheet and it only cost £50 inc p&p for a King Size. A satisfied customer in Norfolk. (read more)

Without doubt, the memory mattress is comfortable, but my sleep is disturbed because it is like laying on a covered hot water bottle and there is nothing I can do to cool down. I never had this problem with my old sprung mattress. If I had known the mattress would become uncomfortably warm during the night, I would not have bought it. Saying that, my sister who feels the cold, absolutely loves it.
Now I'm wondering whether any of the mattress toppers address this problem.

For individuals that sleep hot, memory foam is often too warm for them because it doesn't dissipate body heat as quickly as other types of bedding. Absolute Comfort offers a few different toppers that might help you. The Cool Comfort memory foam topper uses open cell memory foam which dissipates body heat faster than ordinary memory foam. The Cool Max memory foam topper which has cool max fabric which wicks moisture away from your body to keep you cooler. The memorgel toppers which is a mixture of gel and memory foam, this is cooler than regular memory foam because the gel helps dissipate the heat. Best of all we have the orthogel topper, this is definitely the coolest option. The orthogel topper has a thick layer of gel in a honeycomb shape which is very comfortable and is very cooling. The other toppers may be enough to help you dissipate some heat, but the orthogel topper will keep you cooler.

I bought a king sized mattress that cost nearly £900 and had an aloe vera memory foam on one side and plain 1200 pocketed sprung on the other. It was made by an American company, Simmons, and was sold by Tescp. I hate the memory foam side, despite its claim at keeping the sleeper cool with its "special" covering. Shortly afterwards I needed a mattress for another bed and bought a super-king sized 2000 pocketed sprung Rest Assured "Tara" for less than £400. It is just wonderful. Neither my husband nor I like the memory foam. Both of us like the "Tara". Yet he's a cold body and likes a medium mattress and I am a warm body and like a firm mattress. Neither of us would ever buy a memory foam mattress no matter what technology was covering it or incorporated into it.

The old spring mattress was in need of replacement, and when the best replacement quotation was 5,000 pounds, it made me look for alternatives. Memory foam had been recommended by a friend, so I tried the Tempur in the showroom and was impressed, but not by the price.
With a little research I bought a Komfi Fusion memory foam mattress four years ago now, and it's probably the best thing I've done for years.

You have given a positive review for Abberley Beds. Then this positive review where you say the mattress is better than the one that came with the bed. But Abberley Beds and Absolute Comfort are the same company, as far as I can tell?

Absolute Comfort also seem to be trading as BodyContour and Care & Comfort.
Due to the design of the Absolute Comfort Memory Foam Mattress, rebound of heat is very rare (approx 0.002%). The benefits of sleeping on a memory foam mattress however are many.

Each Absolute Comfort Memory Foam Mattress includes a lower-layer of high grade open-celled foam incorporating the AirFlow™ system, which offers even greater ventilation to the open-celled visco-elastic memory foam upper-layer.

You may experience feeling warmer; this is mainly due to improved circulation. We advise the use of fewer covers or a quilt with a lower tog value, especially in summer months.

We also recommend a slatted or well ventilated bed base to aid circulation otherwise a rebound of heat may occur.

I was contemplating buying an Absolute Comfort Memory Foam Mattress from this company, but due to Ian L's review I have changed my mind. I thought these came with a 15 year guarantee, and now it appears if you do not have a base made out of certain wood then the guarantee is void. I also find it rather convenient that straight after his negative review the next two happen to mention that they have had theirs for 3 and 7 years respectively. No other review seems to have mentioned that in the past.

I would have to disagree about purchasing from one of the big 3 mattress makers. We are on our third set in less than 5 years because of their poor quality workmanship. Yes, they've been replaced under warranty but what a hassle. We're ready for them to come and take away the third set already. They sag where we sleep (and no we're not giant-we weigh normal weights). The last service rep told us to call in a few more months and the sag will have reached the 'replacement' point again. What's that??!! We paid nearly $2000 for 'top of the line' traditional mattresses that have to be replaced every two years? Don't listen to this man's advice. I don't even know what our next route we'll be. We're in the process of investigating Select Comfort and foam beds.
