Good Points: Lots of pages Unbiased Informative Well written Nice layout Good retro section

Bad Points: It's £4! What happened to £2.50 magazines?!

General comments: Ah, Games TM then. It's been a loooong time since I actually felt that a magazine warranted a purchase upon the release of every new issue. The last mag I would regularly part with cash for was N64 Magazine because it was well put together and a darn good read. Since the demise of said mag and the truly heartbreaking systematic destruction of both CVG (Paul Davies era) and Gamesmaster (Marcus Hawkins era), there has been NOTHING for the hardcore gamer who isn't sat on a pole (EDGE - I'm talking about you). Enter Games TM. Despite the fact that it's £4, Games TM is the best magazine currently available. Each issue has around 170 pages meaning you won't flick through it in half an hour and has the most up to date reviews and news around. The layout is always really pleasing to the eye (none of the yellow words on blue background Sega Power style shenanigans here) and never overcrowded. Top marks to the Mac-man over at Games TM towers. You don't get free gifts with Games TM, but that's because it is aimed squarely at the more mature gamer, like me, and to be honest if it came with a free blow up Sonic or Crash Bandicoot whistle every issue, I'd be too embarrassed to buy it from the stunning bird behind the counter at the newsagent. As well as the umpteen reviews across all formats in every issue, there's a fantastic Retro section (a bit like the Retro Ranch / Computer Cabin in mid 90s CVG). In this part, a different console from yesteryear is showcased, along with a brief history and reviews of the best games. Nice touch. Games TM screams quality and while it is, again, obviously aimed more at the twenty something market, it doesn't take itself too seriously. True, there's the odd boring interview with a developer's tea boy or other such nonsense, but the overall package is nothing short of spectacular. Move over Edge and take your number crunching, self important, supercilious, pompous ridiculousness with you. Games are meant to be FUN and deserve a magazine that follows suit.
