This is a follow-up review on the Nokia 6680 phone. (See my previous review for more detailed info on the phone)
I've had this phone for more than 3 years now, and I'm still impressed.
It has gone through all sorts with me, has given me absolutely minimal hassles. To tell the truth, I have to realy think hard about where it has let me down.
Right now it's still one of my favourite phones.
It works well, feel good, is easy to carry and to handle, and for that which one gets with & on it,...

I like this mobile phone.
The Nokia 6680 has dual video-capable cameras, 3g, video calling, it has a Symbian operating system (v8), and it also has a hot-swappable RS-MMC slot.

The Nokia 6680 phone is packed with useful features, some of which I'm still getting to know / experience. The phone can be expanded far beyond my initial expectations. The phone was supplied with a 64MB card. This should have been larger, as I find that with the features of the phone which I use, I soon run out of memory, and then have to delete data (or transfer it to my PC). I use the phone as a mixture between a PDA and cellphone, and like to carry a fair amount of pdf, doc and other... (read more)

The Nokia 6680 will randomly stop accepting any incoming calls or texts and also not allow you to make any outgoing calls. After a restart, all goes back to full working order for a while. This has been extremely annoying and even dangerous as you are totally unaware that you are unobtainable in an emergency or when expecting an important call. My wife and I have the Nokia 6680 from different suppliers but both on Vodafone. Both phones have had the random bug described above which... (read more)

I have had my Nokia 6680 mobile phone for about 11 months now, and it has been a superb phone! It has survived literally hundreds of drops from varying heights onto concrete (I'm clumsy), resulting in all the trim missing, needed 2 new cases due to them cracking (the little chrome bezel around the front camera goes first) and the clear button came off the keypad.
Only once has the actual phone broken (kept turning off and on continuously), but I got annoyed and threw it a few times...

I have now had the Nokia 6680 mobile phone for 11 months, and I am coming up to an upgrade, so I thought I would add my comments on almost a year of using it.
When I first received the handset I was very impressed with it. The screen quality is stunning, which means all your pictures and videos look great. It's also got two cameras which makes video calling easy. It's not too big or chunky (compared to the 6600 I had before), and the shutter to protect the rear camera lens is a great idea...

I use the Nokia 6680 mobile phone for phone calls and text messaging ONLY, and I have had 4 replacements already!!
If you call someone and then decide to call them straight after, on all Nokia's I have had to just press the green handset button and the the last number called appears, well not on any of my phones. The screen appearance changes when it feels like it. Battery life is dreadful. Can someone explain to me why 2 cameras are on this phone (front & back)?

The Nokia 6680 mobile phone is absolutely amazing, with better picture quality than my Sony 3.2 mega-pixel digital camera, and infinitely better than the Samsung D600 for zooming, and the quality improves further still when you put images/videos on a computer. The Nokia PC sync is purely foolproof, and so easy to use yet still brilliant. My dad even says it is better than his Nokia N70 on most features. I love the sliding back it's so cool, and there's even an unlocking keypad for when you... (read more)

I have been using the Nokia 6680 on Threepay for 2 months now, for a handset that cost me over £300 i expected a lot. I am pleased to say that it has certainly delivered. The first thing that i noticed was the exceptional screen quality, the colours are so clear and even when zooming in on a picture, it remains crystal. The variety of ringtunes on the phone as standard arent great but then again it doesnt take much to add your own songs via the included 64mb memory card. The phone is good as... (read more)

Once again Nokia have made themselves proud by releasing yet another masterpiece. I have had the Nokia 6680 mobile phone since August 2005, and have yet to get bored with it's functions. Such as the 1.3MP Camera + Flash, Full Symbian 60 software compatibility, Office package, Adobe Reader. But yet I am still let down by Nokia's use of Realplayer as the core function of the multimedia playback, with no real support for todays formats without installing third party applications. I was intending to switch from the business-friendly Nokia 6310i to the Nokia 6680 mobile phone, but very soon after receiving the 6680 I decided not to.
Why? This phone has a very uncomfortable, badly laid out keypad. It's heavy, and it has two useless cameras, a low-powered flash that doesn't do anything, it only accepts expensive and slow low voltage MMC's, and it has numerous software flaws.
Save your money. Buy a 35mm disposable camera and two empty yoghurt pots joined together with...

The Nokia 6680 large screen size means watching videos & viewing pictures is easier, the front & back camera are perfect for the 3G feature(unlike the 6630), I can finally take pictures in the dark with a flash & it's the first Nokia since my 3200 where I don't have to charge it every day.

Hi There, you can get bigger memory cards and then it will hold lots of photo's, real tones etc.

How much are you talking for a decent sized memory card? I had over 300 pics on my 6600, i know the camera wasnt as good but it's a hell of a lot more than 20 odd.

But if there was a reasonable priced memory card that was good enough to hold 150+ pics i would prob buy it.

Is it worth getting the RSMMC Reader? and what is it?is it just a memory stick for your pc etc,or is it specifically for the Mobile?
Written on: 16/09/2005
Hi, the best thing you can do is to call moby memory, the man there is very helpful and will answer all your questions, but that what you asked about is a memory card reader, you plug it into your computer and then you can see whats on it, if you update your memory card you need to change your camera settings to save the photos to memory card rather than to your phone memory. You should have had a 64mb memory card come with your phone? And if you change the camera settings to store to the memory card it should save about 300 photos?

Once again Nokia made a step back. I had a 6600 once, and I hated the fact that it didn't have automatic keypad lock. Once I took 100+ photos of my pocket.
I then got a Nokia 6230, which is a decent Nokia, but it doesn't have video calling.
I upgraded recently to a Nokia 6680, and I regretted it the next day.
Once again, the automatic keypad lock is missing. On top of that, even if you do lock your phone, and then put it in your pocket (as you do), if the camera cover opens up...

I submitted a review in May shortly after receiving my Nokia 6680 and that, really, was just an initial impression after pressing some buttons, as you do with any new phone. I concluded by saying that I might write a further review after a few weeks experience with the phone so, as thunder and lightning have knocked out my satellite signal tonight, this seems like a good opportunity.
Obviously, opinions of mobile phones tend to be very subjective as we all have different requirements from...

The first thing I noticed about this phone is the size - I'd gone from a VERY light Sharp GX25 to the Nokia 6680 but then of course I realised that a phone with this kind of technology isn't going to be very light *yet*. It's not as if the phone is huge or anything, it's probably a bit smaller than the 7650 model.
I originally wanted the Nokia 6630 but was put off at the fact it didn't have a forward facing camera - being on the 3 network I thought this was a major disadvantage but was...

This review is spot on and have found the same things myself.
The only thing I have found very annoying is when you use the flash it sometimes makes the picture look extremely yellow and unuseable as a photo. This might be able to be altered by going into the settings, but have never had to do it with any other make of phone so feel I shouldn't have to do it with Nokia either.
That aside, I would highly recommend this phone also.

I had the Nokia 7610 for 12 months before this one and always thought it was a great phone. The best thing the 6680 has over the 7610 is the ringtones, Much, much better and louder. I bought the Nokia 6680 from dialaphone on the three network. I really liked it at first until I made a call and found the ear piece volume to be far too low. I had adjusted the setting to maximum but still found it impossible to make a call when there was minimal background noise. Therefore I sent it back. I now have the Motorola V3 which doesn't do videocalling but it's a far better phone in my opinion and you can make a call with no problems!! (read more)

This phone has a great spec and everything you would expect from a Nokia (except a radio). It is quite a big phone (if like me you are used to 6230 size) and I didn't like the rear slidey panel that reveals the camera on the back at all. In time, I'm sure this will break or become slack. I ended up returning the phone as I would prefer to wait until 3G is more popular, phones are smaller and the tariff prices more reasonable. (read more)

This guide is really for anyone buying a mobile of this stature for the first time. What can the Nokia 6680 mobile actually do? Well let's begin with the specs. It holds an internal 10MB of memory that's plenty of space for any person who is not really into computers and downloading stuff. If you only like downloading the odd ring tone here or there then, then this amount of memory is plenty.
However for anyone who gets all the software from the web then 10MB is actually a small amount, but...

The Nokia 6680 is great. I had a little problem to begin with, with the MMC card I used, nothing a good hard reset couldn't fix. I was prepared for these little mishapps, as these phones are practically small PCs!!!

The Nokia 6680 is the best Nokia phone in the market. This phone combines a 1.3 megapixel camera with a screen that has 260K plus colors. You can also personalize it through themes and the active standby feature (like a toolbar). It wins in style, size, camera power, screen, battery life, and applications.

Apart from having some difficulty setting up the email facility, (not yet resolved,) I find the phone to be similar to the rest of the Nokia family in that it's fairly straightforward to use and operate.

As a Symbian smartphone, this will surely be one of the most powerful 3G handsets to date. It's due for launch any day now, so I'll be right back as soon as I get my hands on one! It's looking hopeful though... a 262k large colour screen will certainly be a bonus for a Nokia.

As far as games are concerned, I found a few very handy, easy to play easily available (for free!) games on various web sites. The phone actually handles games very nicely as well, again the only problem being the close proximity of the "2" key to the cursor pad.

Thanks for the info about the hardiness of the phone!

I'll also agree that the battey could last a bit longer, especially when using a number of the functions - but overall I wasn't really disappointed, as I expected it to take a pounding with a lot of info being moved back and forth.
