This is a good camera for the novice. It is easy to use, feels great to hold and is sturdy and durable. However, it's not appropriate for someone who has used SLR's before, except as a backup. If you are upgrading from a manual SLR, it will pay to go for an intermediate camera, and maybe add extra lenses over time. I found the metering to be poor in anything but ideal conditions. I use this Nikon F60 35mm SLR camera as back-up to two F70 bodies. My kids also use it when on holiday. There is enough here to enable someone to produce good photographs even if they have minimal operational skills.
