We booked this originally to travel in February on MS Stephanie - but were cancelled because of Egyption Revolution and rebooked for March and upgraded to MS Emilio. This was a special occassion for my wifes 60th Birthday. Our original disappointment was overcome with all of our expectations being surpassed. The boat was excellent - there were 80 crew and only 40 or so passengers - which was brilliant as you got to know most of them and what a good bunch they were. The food was excellent... (read more)

Our ship was the Emilio Domino Prestige and we were very happy with the standard of care and attention given by all the Staff. Two who stood out were Waleed, our guide who is one of the most kind and considerate men you could wish to meet and Mr Isaacs the rep from Orbital travel who was always there when we needed him right up to our final departure. Waleed loved his country and his subject and and his enthusiasm and laugh were infectious. We would certainly recommend this ship. (read more)

Very clean ship inside and out making others look shabby. Very friendly and helpful staff always wanting to please. Exceptionally quiet and smooth on the water. Very comfortable king size bed. All Inclusive deal proved excellent value for money resulting in no extra spending. Tour guide Alla extremely knowledgable on Egyptian history and good sense of humour added to a first rate experience. The staff are incredible. The boat is very nice and the pool is the best. Saw many other boats on the Nile and was shocked at the condition of many of the boats. MS Emilio is a lovely boat, decent food, entertainment. Best things were definitely ALL the staff and ALI BABA our amazing tour guide who also became an incredible friend. (read more)

I had a great time onboard with my sister. The boat was very nice and clean. The staff was ever so nice, always trying to keep you happy and do anything to make sure we had a good time. The food was excelent and constantly checked by the kitchen staff. All staff and guest where made to sanitize their hands before entering the dining room . The only thing i didn't like was the size of the pool and the deserts, but than I didn't had a single nice sweet in Egypt. (read more)

On arrival we were told we were not going to the boat originally given but being upgraded? to the Emilio. The boat initially looked dated but once on board it was a really nice boat. The staff were pleasent and helpful. The rooms were cleaned twice a day and cleaned well (towels turned into animal by the staff each day, lovely touch). We have just returned from the cruise, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The cruise was fabulous, cabin very clean, food good. We had an excellent guide Azza who made it all worthwhile, she was so passionate about her job, so knowledgeable and a great sense of humour. We were disappointed when she was not our guide to Abu Simbel, we realised what an excellent guide she was.

Overall a great holiday on MS Emilio. Very apprenhensive before going, but need not have worried. Food and staff were excellent. When restaurant staff told I was vegetarian, they came up with even more choices. Rooms were cleaned to a good standard. Price of drinks were expensive. Just wish something could be done about the hassle when getting off the boat. Surely the locals should realise we would buy more if allowed to look first. (read more)

We were transferred to MS Emilio owing to overbooking (which can happen at high season) and found it to be one of the most enjoyable experiences we have had. We had never been to Egypt before although this was not the first time to an Arabic country - we were very miffed at first at not being on the boat we had booked but the staff especially made us feel very welcome. A good tip here is do not go with the big operators-book independently on-line. We were met at the airport by the agent from... (read more)

After a late arrival at 23:00 we were made to feel welcome and a hot meal was provided.

On our cruise the passenger mix was predominantly Italian/British (50/50) with the average age being 35(ish).

We had a suite that was well worth paying for, it being twice the size of a normal cabin. It was generally clean and the towels changed at least twice a day. What a trip on board of the MS Emilio! Early mornings though, but well worth it. Abu Simbel worth the extra and the only regret that I had is that I didn't go on the balloon ride which apparently was fantastic. Libra have got it right with the early starts as you avoid the temperature at midday, when you were always back on board cruising the Nile and resting. I was unwell during the trip, although the standard of cleanliness was very high, and a doctor came onto the boat within 15 minutes of asking for one. I would just like to say thanks for your review. Myself and my partner are going on Domina in 4 weeks time. I feel happier now I've read your review. Do you mean to take English pound coins? Only I heard that the Egyptians wouldn't be able to exchange these!

Also, I am a bit confused as to if it's OK to wear shorts and strappy t-shirts whilst out and about!?

Did you go to Abu Simbel? And if so, what did you pay? Also, which light and sound show is best?
Thanks in anticipation.

Take UK pound coins, as they request these first (then Egyptian followed by Euro then USA $). Be aware, as you may get asked to change UK coins to Egyptian. These will usually be fake UK coins! All vendors, shops or locals, will take any of the above (even in the shops on MS Emilio).

No problems with shirts/shoulders (for either men or women) when out.

Didn't go to Abu Simbel, but those that did paid £70 by coach. All recommended it, even though it's a 03:30 start.

Philae light show was most popular, being smaller than Karnak.

Tipping for the MS Emilio boat crew is collected on the last day via a envelope and "post box". The recommended amount is £3.50 per person per day. Your guide will collect £7.50 per person on the first day, this then takes care of all tipping when out on excursions. It will also be "suggested" that you may like to tip your guide at the end of the holiday. The recommended amount being about £15 per person for the week. The £7.50 is required is UK notes, the others can be in any currency. Just a point, we only took £200 worth of Egyptian (approximately 2000 Egyptian pounds) and found this to be too much. I would recommend taking maybe £100 of Egyptian, in the smallest possible notes, and a few hundred in UK, plus those £1 coins!

Excellent value for money. I found it to be very clean, and I can't understand the comments about it being unclean. The drinks were priced the same as in a bar in the UK. What you would expect on a cruise ship. As for the staff, I found them very pleasant, and they always had a laugh and joke with us, and you got free crisps at the bar! On arriving at the MS Emilio cruise ship, I was impressed with the size of the bar area and general standard of cleanliness. However, the cabin was not so good. It was quite grubby with dirty walls and stained bedding, and it was also quite dusty. The cabin was not vacuumed the whole time we were there, and I had to ask for the vacuum cleaner myself on about the forth day, as I couldn't stop sneezing. I was not the only one to experience this. Looking at your review, I am quite shocked! I have booked a holiday with my two sons on MS Emilio and based on your account, I will be paying over £300 in tips! Surely this is wrong? The rest of the review also left me dismayed and wondering how I can get out of going on the trip. Are they really that awful to women? Please tell me my fears are groundless. This is the first holiday I have been able to afford with my boys, I really don't want it to be a disaster ( or come back in debt ).

Dear mskp,
I don't want to put you off your holiday. Everybody is different I am sure you will have a great time. The tips were at the time I went 7.50 per person (I don't know how many of you are going) plus other tips but it wont add up to £300 and I am sure you wouldn't have to pay them all (I didn't, but I did feel pressurised) as for their attitude to women I think it is a cultural thing but there are different group leaders so you will probably get someone else as they use several tour guides and have a totally different experience. So please don't worry enjoy your holiday.

I have to disagree with this review. We found everything to the contrary, clean rooms and cleaned twice a day, exceptional friendly staff, trips just right with plenty of free time at each temple etc. you have time to go into Aswan, Luxor and other stops if wanted. Everything we expected and more with this trip - would definitely go on it again and would definitely recommend.

You don't have to go on every trip if you don't want to - you can just stay on board and enjoy the peace and quiet. We upgraded to a suite on the Domina Prestige Nile Cruise, which was well worth it and made a huge difference to our holiday, as there was three of us in the cabin. Hi sue
You can use either egyptian pounds or english pounds on board the domina but we took just enough egyptian pounds to pay for souvenirs and we paid for drinks, excursions with english money. I do not think that they accept travellers cheques on board.
Bottles of Water costs around 5 egyptian pounds for a 500ml bottle but you can get it cheaper off the boat. You will have to sign for drinks each time you have one but you are able to ask for a nightly tally if you want to keep track.

To be perfectly honest, we did not use the facility but I am sure it will be OK being a 5* new boat.
When you get to the Locks there are lads on rowing boats around the boat, they throw items of clothing up for you to inspect, if dont want throw it back, we purchased our galibeyas from them for the egyptian night pay about £8/10 sterling for them, not bad quality, the money is put in a bag containing an item you dont want and thrown down! good fun.
Recomend Abu Simbal by bus and the balloon ride.
