I bought this gun last year and have only put about 60 shots through it. The last time I replaced the co2 cartridges though the gun wasn't recharged and was only firing pellets intermittently, and even then only about 15 yards range. If anyone can suggest what I'm doing wrong I'd be really grateful. Otherwise, with a scope and silencer on it I don't think there is anything out there that can match this rifle for the money. There's a video on YouTube that shows you how to adjust what can be a... (read more)

Powerful & accurate with scope. Stiff bolt & trigger to start with & fiddly to load under scope. Silencer reduces gun noise to less than that coming from pellet trap. Trigger getting easier with use & may need "friendly" pellets to get the best out of it. Well made for the price. (read more)

Great gun. recieved for a birthday present. Once zero in with a scope give great accuracy. I was shooting lighters at 35 yeards plus no problem. I have purchased a mod kit to increase muzzle volocity which should increase distance capabilitys. Please get one if your thinking. Fantastic gun for all ages. Im 20 and i cant get enough of it! its pretty well priced for what it is and from 20 yards i killed a rabbit but its pretty inhumane because even with two co2's i struggled to better 30 to 35 full powered shots and thats only about 9 ft-lb's, you may run into the problem like i did by having to shoot a rabbit 4 or 5 times to kill it, best gun to go for if you want a co2 is a 850 air magnum or if you dont want to spend that much a crosman rabbit stopper. This gun is only good for plinking or small animals close up but for that... (read more)

bought this gun in standard as i wanted accuracy over power. as standard, it took around 100 pellets to bed in. power was good untill i started looking on tuning websites. Have just finished polishing and porting this gun and cant beleive what i difference it makes. anyone can do this, all you need is a seal kit of ebay £7, few grades of wet and dry, a drill, 3 & 3.5mm drill bit a file, and a peice of dowling wood. Power has greatly gone up and could easily take out game at 40 yards using... (read more)

What an excellent gun the SMK XS78C023 is, it actually beats other air rifles that are twice as much as this , there isnt a spring air rifle that can match it for accuracy , if you like me are into shooting a lot then gear up to bulk fill and you will find the cost of c02 going down by a considerable margin .
There are a multitude of tuning tips out for this rifle that will take it comfortably to 11.3 lbs which is a very nice number . Using rws superdomes i get lead on lead at... (read more)

Well finished good looking gun, low recoil. Co2 means that pressure is a bit variable and so accuracy suffers through inconsistency. Handles nicely, well balanced. In retrospect would have bought one with scope and silencer, maybe even big 88g canister version.
I have the SMK QB78 Deluxe .22 version, again in retrospect the .177 would have been more accurate and enough power for the job (vermin hunting) but .22 flat heads work well at close range.
The moving parts, trigger, safety, bolt... (read more)

Had this SMK XS78CO2 rifle for nearly a year, for target shooting. Like the weight, and it is accurate with a scope, as others have said. I have a major problem with the screw valve where the two CO2 cylinders go. The blurb says that it can be tightened by hand, but I have to use mole grips to get the cones to pierce both cylinders!! Have ruined the looks of this end cap! (read more)

Very low price for what you get. I prefer the .22 Deluxe version. No Recoil, Low price, easy to work on, can beat guns costing a lot more if you tune them. Trigger can be made good. The Deluxe has fibre optic sights that are good for Close range vermin. You can fit a Telescopic sight easy. Very light. Can be tuned to the legal limit in .22 and usually in .177. You have to do a bit of work to make them very good. They need Co2 bottles to run. Power is between 6 to 8 ft lbs. (read more)

My first proper air rifle. I don't know what it's like without a scope but with one it is very accurate upto about 25-30 yards and a lot of fun can be had with it. I joined an air gun club on the back of using this so it's very good. I would recommend it to anyone who's thinking of starting up. (read more)

As I said the iron sights are very basic, but stick a halfway decent scope on and you have a very good rifle, with no scope creep due to recoil that you sometimes get on a a springer. The rifle itself is very quiet, and with a suppressor attached the only sound is the pellet hitting the target. I haven't had the rifle long enough to know if there are any inherent problems, but the build quality seems very good. It does seem to prefer certain pellets, My rifle seems to function best with... Really just adding a little to the previous reviews. The quality of the stock has been improved greatly since some of the other reviews, the rifle now comes with a well finished and quite attractive looking stock however the trigger mechanism is still poor but after some smoothing of the actual trigger and polishing of the working surfaces it looks good and works well. Unbeatable budget rifle, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! (read more)

This is without a doubt one of the best rifles to buy.
It is small and lightweight with power suitable for close range pest control. Accuracy is good enough to take on rifles costing double the price.
They can easily be tuned for more power, but even stock standard they perform well. Mine used to do about 640 ft/s, but now gets about 800ft/s.
You get about 60-70 full power shots per fill and even more is you do a bulk fill.
Shooting 1 hole groupings at 20m is easy and with silencer on, they... (read more)

This is my first air rifle (The SMK QB78 Deluxe) and I have found it to be excellent value for money. Joined a local target shooting club and the regular members have all given favorable comments. I have also been told to try some Diablo pellets and these seem to be much more accurate (the first type seem to turn sideways... (read more)

This is my second xs78 , the first was an absolute disaster, from the minute i got it it constantly leaked co2 from the main part, but i returned the gun to Sportsmarketing and eventually they gave me a brand new one, which has been good, I use mine for ratting mainly and I find it pretty accurate over short to medium distances. Just to add to my previous review, i have since purchased the upgrade kit from tjrobb and wow , super power, loss of shots per cartridge but extra power is awesome, will go through bottom and out of top of beer can at 25yds, and buries half way into 15mm pine plank at same distance, getting a chrono to check it out but it must be on the 12ft lbs limit, a truly great gun. I brought the deluxe model about 3 months ago; I got it in .22 as that was the only calibre that the shop had. I paid £150 for the gun, a 4x28 scope, mounts, and a sound suppressor. It is actually surprising accurate at short and medium ranges although the pellet does start to drop a little at any thing over 30 yards but it is possible to compensate for this. with it I can get 5 shot .5 inch gropes at about 25 yards witch is quite good as it is only a cheep C02 rifle, I have been getting... I have had about 5 of these rifles and personally i love them there is so much info on the net into tuning these i have done a few of these, the biggest part is getting the c02 flow better and smoothing the rough internal finish to these rifles they shoot like a totally different gun when done i would not recomend a .177 though as the power will not improve that much but the .22 is a far better gun as when tuned you can get the power up to 11ftbs and still get 50 shoots to 2 co2 12gram... It is cheap and cheerful, light, comfortable to shoot and it makes a great plinking rifle. The CO2 capsules are cheap as well. I recently bought my SMK XS78 air rifle in .22 cal, and I really can't fault it for the money. I paid £39.99 from Sharkfox on www.gundeals.co.uk. If you're after one of these be quick, as they won't stay at this price for long. These rifles are basically fun guns for garden plinking. This is the same rifle reviewed elsewhere as the Shanghi Airgun QB78, but is sold, at least in the UK under the SMK banner.
Immediate impressions is that it is well made, perhaps a bit crude in places but everything works well and seems likely to last. The only plastic bit is the clamp securing the barrel to the 'receiver' that holds the CO2 capsules. Build quality seems better than the Crossman alternatives. The gun has a very solid bolt action which is a nice feature on such a budget... (read more)
