£50 to cancel my policy!!! That is more than the insurance cost. Very sad to be treated this way aftermany years with them. Sorry Devitt - but you wont see me again!!! To all bikers out there - read the small print before you buy your insurance from Devitt. It is not as cheap as you think. Wait until you need to cancel your policy. (read more)

Recently received my renewal notice in the post. Had to contact them to check the price and found the lady I spoke to very helpful and knowledgeable. Been with them a number of years and would recommend them. Paying by direct debit you need to make sure you contact them before your renewal date. (read more)

Several years ago I used them for motorcycle insurance, they failed to collect payment (due to their poor administration), then charged me for cancelling the policy. I did not know they had failed to collect payment until they sent me the cancellation letter. This resulted in threats of CCJ unless I paid, which I did because I did not want the agro. Recently (Aug 2013) I used them again because, well, they are cheap. I changed my address half way through the policy, so they charged me... (read more)

I had a motorcycle policy with them for a year and because i didn't have to contact them they were ok at cheap price, however after a year they automatically renewed my policy without asking,(hate companies who do this) i didn't get the renewal letter and only found out when i saw money has come out of my account, i phoned up to cancel to be told i had gone 3 days over the 10 day cooling off period so i had to pay the charge of £65, very frustrating as there is not much i can do but pay... I took out a policy for a 125cc motorcycle (as a full licence holder) which I had for around 6 months, barely using the bike. I sold the bike and decided to phone them up to get a price on a cancellation fee and was told that they have to cancel my policy whether I decided I wanted to go through with it or not because I no longer owned the bike. I wanted to keep the insurance rolling a little longer until I had my next bike but according to Devitt this would be, in their words, illegal. So... (read more)

Devitt took my money then wouldn't accept my no claims bonus sent directly from my previous insurer in Australia, even though my license was listed as 'international' in their online application process. They sent me a poorly composed email telling me that this was the case and they suggested that I find another insurer or pay something like 500 quid extra. They provided no details on if/when the policy will be cancelled. I rang them to find out what the hell was going on and they told me... (read more)

Devitt Insurance are verging on practicing criminal behaviour. I have bailiffs trying to get money out of me for insurance on a motorbike I don't have. I cancelled my insurance at renewal as I had sold the bike months before, and cancelled the direct debit, but after phone calls and letters they said that they did not believe me and for all they knew I still had the bike.!!! We took out a policy through Churchill. Never again. The stress these bullies are causing us is ridiculous. It's... (read more)

I cancelled my insurance 5 days after the start of my policy as I had part exchanged my bike. I was told I would have to pay a £25 admin fee but that I would get a full refund minus this fee. That seemed fine. Since then I have been given one refund amount via email and another refund figure via letter. Both are well less than the premium minus the admin fee. It has been a catlogue of errors ever step of the way and I will be making an offical complaint. They will probably be useless... (read more)

Took out insurance on the interweb on the evening before a ride, received a call mid day saying they were terminating the policy and refunding the money. This was due to the garage postcode being different to my home one even though I submitted both online while buying ! Took my money in seconds but left me short funded for 4 days before I could reinsure. Would not use them again. Customer service just said thats the system. (read more)

Avoid at all costs ! This company will ask you to confirm anything, then deny receiving the information, and give you a 7 day window to do it, if you dont comply they cancel your policy , and refuse any refund. So i paid £175.00 for as 125 cc and in January got a letter cancelling my policy as they lost a copy of my CBT, even thoe i sent via email (scanned) more than 3 times. Im in the process of taking them to a small claims court. AVOID DEVITT INSURANCE THERE DAY LIGHT ROBBERS (read more)

I insured two bikes with them for a year, no problem till I went to tax one and noticed they had one of the registration digits wrong. No problem they issued new certificate then I taxed it. Oh my god then the problems started. They asked for copies of log books..emailed to them straight away...they kept denying they had received them..phone calls, emails still no joy!! Just came off the phone from Devitt Customer service. This is the last insurance company you may ever want to go. I had a policy for my Vespa for about 8 months and requested to cancel policy in time. They failed to cancel it and renewed my policy and charged me extra money for it. so i decided to call them to ask for refund. I was insured with Bennetts prior to my move to Devitt's. When I had a non-fault accident Bennetts refused to assist, initially hanging up, and later both denying I had ever called and then insisting I had jumped off my bike and rear ending a van. Neither was true. They then removed all my no-claims and "lost all recordings" of my calls.
I called Devitt's and they helped me recover my no-claims when I moved policy.

I changed from Carole Nash to Devitts for one year. The switching process was a nightmare, they repeated failed to send out my paperwork leaving me unable to tax my bike. I sent my proof of no claims to them, which they claimed they never received then sent me lots of threatening letters that they were going to cancel my insurance. Finally when my renewal time came, their renewal quote was £150 more than Carole Nash so I called to cancel the policy. Months later they started sending me... (read more)

2. Blamed me for address error (Duh!!)
3. Promised replacement docs next day.
4. No docs next day or even that week.
5. They make millions of pounds profit but refused to pay for a courier to make good bad service when replacement docs did not arrive.
5. Could/would not ride bike on road with no docs as proof of insurance.
6. Docs arrived two weeks later which include someone else's certificate also.

I had my CG125 insured with Devitt Motorcycle insurance as they were the best quote I could find when I started riding two years ago. I've just changed to a SV650's and they only wanted an additional £85 to cover it (fully comp) for the year. Most other companies wanted a premium of well over £300. A good company, that if you look carefully also runs the official BMW scheme, which probably says something about their service. (read more)

Devitt Motorcycle Insurance wouldn't accept my two bikes as they were not the same make! Is that crazy or what? I asked if I should have two identical bikes, one in each colour in case one got dirty, and they said that this was "a good idea". They suggested I sell my KTM and Yamaha road bike and buy two of the same make!!
How poor is that? The reason for people having two bikes is for VARIETY. (read more)

I rang Devitt Motorcycle Insurance on behalf of someone to update a policy, and I had the policy in front of me. I was told due to company policy they were unable to deal with the update, as the policy holder must ring. They would not answer a simple query because I was not the policy holder. This is totally unacceptable. The policyholder tried to ring at 7.15pm (note - they advertise that they are open until 8.00pm), and no one could deal with the update. What are you supposed to do? ... I was put in touch with Devitt through the BMW Motorcycle website. Firstly I was misquoted; being informed that the price I was offered was for fully comprehensive cover, but it turned out to be T,P,F & T. I only noticed this when I received the paperwork (having already paid). I called and spoke to an operator and was met with total indifference and some ignorance. No apologies nor offers to correct the mistake was made, indeed I was told that if I cancelled the insurance I would have to pay... (read more)

When I initially insured my bike with Devitt the cover notes were endless, always running out and needing to be chased just so that I could use the bike which I needed for getting to work and back. Correspondence with the company failed to achive anything positive.

Devitt DA were good until I tried to make a claim 8 months into my policy. At that point they told me that the insurers had suspended my insurance 2 months into the policy and that I should have had a refund. They then posted me the refund and notification letter they had 'forgotten' to send me. It was only after a lot of phone calls and I pointed out they had issued a new covernote for a change of address 1 month previously that they eventually agreed to cover me for the accident. I found Devitt via Churchill's website and have to say I found their quotation the cheapest by far. I only ride a 125 and I am 31-years old.
