Good Points: Low light shooting Ease of use Reliability
Bad Points: Very poor sound Random white balance
General comments: I have to disagree with previous reviewer. I bought the JVC GR-D33EK digital camcorder as a back-up to a much more highly-rated (and expensive) Canon MV 650i. The Canon has suffered multiple problems (black screen, destroying tapes, poor picture quality), while the trusty (but cheap) JVC has taken over as the first choice (albeit with sound dubbed over). The picture quality is good in all light conditions, but the excessive motor noise drowns out any decent sound (and no external mic socket).
All-in-all, it is a great little camera for the price.
