Forget smart phones. This phone is the absolute best phone I have ever owned. I got one new in-the-box which hadn't been opened since 2001. The phone has amazing features for its time. If you need a phone that is excellent for simple communications and organizational tasks, then this is a great one. It has t9 predictive text, a wonderful daylight readable monochrome LCD display. Siemens ME45 is such an amazing phone! I've been using my phone since 2001 and it didn't give me any problem or whatsoever.. It's fallen a number of times, and it just won't break! I live in Portugal and I surf a lot, it often falls in the sand, and it gets wet, and nothing! It's been working wonderfully well since the day I bought it. I love the calendar in it, I still love the design.. Siemens really impressed them with this phone.
I'm not even sure if I want the 65 series... I know it's...

I have used the Siemens ME45 for over 3 1/2 years. Honestly, it is my dream mobile phone. I'm totally proud of my ME45. It has outstanding performance and great durability toward shock, splashed water, and vibration. Even now I am still suprised at its battery performance. It stills survive until now, still lasts for 3 up to 4 days after being fully charged. I still use the original battery and have yet to replace it. The ME45 is my first mobile phone. I selected this mobile as I wanted to use it in extreme conditions. The mobile has survived for the past 27 months. I had only to take it once to be repaired. The mobile is still fully functional. Reception is fine. Obviously it has a number of scratches from excessive use, but has survived a number of falls. The main problem is the keyboard buttons. Excellent phone! Your right it's not the cheapest about! But i got a good deal and am so pleased with it! It gets a LOT of use from me, has been dropped from a rig at least two or three times, dropped in a sink one or two times, and many other bumps but has survived a year with me! Which no other phone has! It might be a bit *old* and it doesnt have a camera so what, great phone will be keeping it for a while but unfortuantly I lost the back cover for it! As promised, the Siemens ME45 Mobile phone is perhaps the best mobile I have used in past 6 years. It combines all the winning features in a mobile in this price range. Except for an inbuilt camera, it has everything a man can wish for.

The Siemens ME45 is the best choice for a business man, a worker or an active teenager.
It has a lot of memory (345kb for explorer, 500 addressbook entries, 200 phonebook entries).
I can synchronise the mobile via IrDA or the data cable supplied.
It's battery life is outstanding since it can go up to 180 hours of standby including talktime, playing games or uploading bitmaps via IrDA.
You can record a conversation while talking or a joke of a friend if you forget easily.

It's a pretty good phone, has very many options, I really liked that I got a data cable and software for it together with the mobile, good resistance against shock, but unfortunately there's a hole in the back cover which basically makes all the efforts on water protection pretty useless if it gets really wet. In my opinion, some of your 'beefs' are valid, and some of the features realy are awful. Everyone does have to survive with features they do or don't need (for the one Ok, the other crud), but............... Battery Life ???
surely, there is hardly another model on the market with around a week (360 hours ?) of standby.
Are you charging it correctly? Are you really reviewing the ME45?

IMHO, it is a good thing for a phone to have many functions. If you don't need them don't use them or buy a cheaper phone without them.
<br>And I don't think battery and reception are bad. My battery lasted about 4.5 days and reception was pretty good.
<br>And it's not so expensive, I think it's a good value for the money.

I don't think ME45 have a short battery life. If you do not need that much function....might as well try the Nokia 3310 or other siemens model. I'm proud that I owned this phone....and thumb up to Germans technology!

The overall rating I agree with. The feature which sold me on the phone was the hands free, but poor reception, drop outs, poor ring volume and a vibration alert have left me with a never touch a siemens again feeling. I see this phone has been discontinued. I'm not surprised.

I have a ME45 for about a year, and its battery lasts for about one week..... It has excellent reception and cool features. I completely disagree with the reviewer, and I have an advice for him: read the manual first! ;)

I think you read the model number incorrectly, since what you said, literally don't apply to this pretty well designed excellent mobile.

I've had an ME45 for a year and its the best phone i've ever had (Nokia various, Ericsson, Motorola various), beats Nokia into a cocked hat on toughness, battery life and reception. Overcomplicated? I don't think so if you read the handbook and although the operation of the phone menu is different to the ubiquitous Nokia, it is reasonably logical and the phone works for me as a heavy user

It is a very reliable phone which contains almost every feature someone could possibly want: WAP, dictaphone, voice commands and dial, calendar, curr. converter, calculator and...and....and.... Its internal antenna gives good signal, while the 840 Li-Ion battery allows you to recharge the phone one time per week! Also, the phone is quite small and gives a sence that it is solid. This is the best phone I've ever used. The Siemens ME45 is a very tough phone and its dimensions are excellent for me. Its battery has an excellent performance as it lasts for about one week with normal usage. The phone has a large display and many features. Also, it can store 500 names with 14 fields each. I think this Siemens ME45 mobile phone is outstanding. I've had it for a few months now and have never had a problem with it. The signal is always there, except in the normal places of no signal but thats not the phones fault, its a good size and its easy to use. The only problem is I can't find many ringtones for it and the disk I recieved with it doesn't work on my pc. (read more)

I think that the Siemens ME45 is one of the best mobile phones nowadays. I am completely satisfied with my Siemens ME45. The phone has many features like calendar, dictaphone, WAP, GPRS etc, and it gives me a well-built sense. Reception and sound quality are very good, while its menu is functionable and easy to use. The Li-Ion battery lasts for about 4-5 days with a maximum of 2 hours recharging. Overall, I think that it is one of the best phones available at market and a great value for money. (read more)

I've owned just about every mobile phone going!! This Siemens ME45 is close to the best yet. It could be a bit smaller but things start to go wrong then - ie: buttons get too close together etc. The menu system is typical Siemens & as good as Nokia - Both are way ahead of the other makers. Overall, the Siemens ME45 is a great mobile phone that I wouldn't swap for any Nokia. My only complaint is the vibration is a bit weak so it's quite easy to miss calls when it is on silent mode. (read more)

<br>Glad that my comments helped you to think twice. But, of course, my review is biased, I did after all purchase the phone and then only later find out exactly whats 'annoying'. I have, though, come to terms with the phone. Just returned from a trip abroad and had the chance to compare almost the complete range of new/old cells and chat with their owners. The best 'score' for the cell which suits my particular needs is a very, very long talk/standby, and the ME45 has it. So, it's not that bad, really!

Although earlier software versions on the Siemens ME45 mobile phone may have had bugs, it is refreshing that Siemens has come out quickly with software updates that not only fixed the bugs but added on some very helpful features. In version 21 I got an extra game, 25 more text message memory locations and txt messages up to 760 characters long. (read more)

I bought my Siemens ME45 mobile phone last December and I really believe this phone was developed for me. When I get mad at something I throw anything that I am holding to the floor, wall or out the car INCLUDING cellphones. I once threw my ME45 outside of my moving car and when I came back to get it the worst thing that happened was SIM error when the SIM card got jarred loose. This Siemens ME45 is the great MID-end phone that has facilities like HIGH-end phones. I thinks Siemens must use the same efficient methods like Nokia in reading Inbox so the key responds quickly.
Overall I very satisfied with this phones.
Altough not as revolusionary as T68, the ME45 us cheaper and creative, supported by most basic needs like strong signal, great battery life.

This is a great phone. It is the Ferrari of cellphones. Cool design unlike the "boxness" of the Nokias. Good firmware! Does not have a bug. Try importing bitmaps done with Microsoft Paint or Photoshop - it works great!. Try importing WORD files and convert them to SMS then send. It can do that. I'm not so happy with this telephone (after 3 month of use).

Im sorry, I found some bugs too after two months of use but they are not as worst as Nokia and Ericsson phones. I've had Nokia phones and Ericssons high end phones too but they are full of firmware bugs. I had thrown an irreparable 3310. Maybe you should get an Alcatel next time. The ME 45 provides more enjoyment than the bugs you mentioned. You must not overstate things to mislead buyers and scare them. The ME 45 has a few bugs not even noticeable to basic users and most of them are corrected in the Version o9.

try reading the user manual. T9 predicive text. Good robust phone that is virtually me proof. I have broken every other type of phone I have had, especially Nokias, the Siemens have been the most robust and user friendly.
