“Awful and charged twice!! ”

Written on: 17/04/2013 by PennyWilkinson (1 review written)

I went onto the website and booked 2 tickets online on Friday 22 March. I waited for the email to come through and I waited for payment (£29.70) from my account. As neither happened I assumed that the booking did not go through. I checked again on Saturday morning - still nothing. I resigned myself to pay on the door - which I did (£37). I checked my account later to find that the booking has been put through! Still no email. So - paying twice - it must have been good right? Wrong! (read more)

“RIP OFF”

Had not been to the Ideal home show for about 4 years thought i'd go again to see how things had evolved. No free goodie bag, only get one if you pay a fiver for a brochure don't call that free. A lot of same stuff from my last visit in 2009, Bamix blender, vitamix blender, Over priced dated steam mops that you can buy anywhere for half the price. the list goes on. This year was a big disappointment most products on sale you could buy from Argos or high street stores. One of the show... (read more)

“Giant market selling absolute tat”

Written on: 08/04/2013

Seen better stuff on sale at the market down my road. Absolute bloody rubbish as far as the eye can see. If that kind of stuff is the stuff of an Ideal Home then I'll live in a tent. How they dare charge for entry too I have no idea. Avoid at all cost unless you want to eat a £5 hot dog while looking at demonstrations of potato peelers and electronic cigarettes. Never again! “Pedestrian rubbish and devoid of inspiration”

Written on: 04/04/2013 by Lacewing

Came down from Manchester for this and really sorry we did. About to undertake major remodelling of home and in need of some ideas and connections with relevant companies. Where were the high quality kitchen companies and cutting edge designers/builders etc? We spent around 4 hours and truly exhausted the place in our desperation to find something useful. Tried upstairs which appeared to be a physical version of QVC and we felt manipulated. Food and drink were lacking and expensive; we... (read more)

“dreadful”

Written on: 30/03/2013

I have been going to the Ideal home exhibition on and off since 1957. Goodness how the mighty have fallen. Thankfully I had free tickets, but If I had had to pay an entrance fee I would have been more than angry. It's never been the same since it was left by the Daily Mail. Show houses awful - the Princes house trust was like a rabbit hutch and I'm sure that Charles would never live in it! Food over priced bits of lettuce like a service station and nothing what so ever to be impressed by -... (read more)

Was so looking forward to first visit and day out at the exhibition . Luckily got two tickets for £12 but not really worth even that . The food and drink prices a rip off . The stalls were that of a market . Not worth going and would not recommend to anyone . Beware of stalls selling items you can get just as cheap on Amazon namely the portable barbecues (read more)

“wasted Afternoon”

Written on: 25/03/2013

A waste of an afternoon - went there to get some ideas for a house refurbishment i am about to undertake. It has really lost its sparkle and i left with a real feeling of diappointment and no inspiration. Although I managed to find a code to get a dsicount on my two tickets they were still expensive for this event. We had a snack upstairs £5.80 for a roll with a slither of beef in it. “Dreadful, waste of time and money”

Written on: 23/03/2013 by Honeybunn (1 review written)

First time at the exhibition with a like minded friend, very much looking forward to the day and planned to spend around 4 hours there. We walked into what looked like a flea market, repetitive stalls selling rubbish. Took a look over the balcony to see a crowded floor of salesmen, selling nothing of particular interest, (Anglian windows) did not queue up to look into show house as would have wasted 2 hours in the queue. On the plus side a couple of nice garden ideas. Thank The Lord we had... (read more)

So true, i have been going for years, usually just out of habit and it used to be much better. last few years it has declined. There are too many boring companies like windows etc. and not enough interesting unusual stuff. The sales people try to drag you in for make overs etc and then want to sell you some overpriced product you can get for half the price. i reluctantly went to a clairvoyant a year ago. She was useless. Never told me anything. More like a cup of tea and chat with friend, without the tea!!! The year before did tarot reading, which consisted of putting my hand on a machine, and i got a printout with my birth date on it. Just a lot of rubbish and cost me £10 for that but £30 for the clairvoyant. Spent too much money on rubbish there

i went to the xmas show in 2012. I was ripped off by CRYSTAL ADONIS who sold crystal based xmas decorations. I got a ball about the size of small football, made of same material as the xmas decs that you can buy. made of some type of metal based product but very delicate. They had a few crystals in them and snowman design. i paid £25 for it. It was packed in box and I took it home. When I opened it it was cracked in two places. Couldnt have happened with me cos it was in my bag in box. I complained to Ideal home show organisers and they got in touch with CRYSTAL ADONIS. They promised finally to get a decoration sent to me by xmas, I never got one. After countless emails to Ideal Home and CRYSTAL ADONIS I have not been reimbursed for the biggest load of C R A P i have ever bought and have not had any apologies. I will not be returning to ideal home show. Its a rip off place and the organisers couldnt give a *** for the customers who walk through their doors and buy products. I would say dont go there. You can email amy.ktori@media-ten.com but i cant guarantee you will get much help but at least she answers your emails.

“Rip-Off”

Most of this exhibition consisted of hard-sell sales people handing out brouchers.Very little to actually look at. How they can legally charge £16.50 for entrance is beyond my understanding. I visited the Ideal home exhibition this April 2012 after being given a ticket by my Mother who couldn’t make it. If you thought that was poor, you should see the Christmas version. I stopped going to the main show years ago when I found that none of the major appliance manufacturers exhibited. How can you have an ideal home without them.

Now the Christmas version is just the opportunity for retailers with claimed special show reduced prices which are still ludicrously overpriced.. You would do better to go to a good shopping centre

i went to the xmas show last year as I was a regular Ideal home Show visitor. Bought a delicate xmas bauble size of small football but it was cracked when i got it home. It cost £25 so quite expensive. I emailed the company CRYSTAL ADONIS and they ignored my email. So emailed amy.ktori@media-ten.com, she replied that she would contact them. They ignored again so after contacting media ten they finally agreed to send a replacement, but denying that their product would have broken with normal care. They promised to deliver the bauble by xmas but of course it never came and waas never likely to. I emailed Amy again and she said she more or less cannot force them to refund my money. So basically they allow contributors to rip off customers as long as they get their money. Everything there is a rip off as I got 3 separate years tickets free cos of previous complaints. But this one has annoyed me, its cost me £25 from a R I P off company (if you want to write such words put spaces in between otherwise the site dont allow the words). The goods were faulty and C R A P so basically werent worth buying. In the long run its saved me money cos now I wont go back twice a year so I have saved lots of money, much more than the £25 I have been ripped off by.CRYSTAL ADONIS are on a website but they dont allow reviews obviously, I now know why

“IDEAL HOME SHOW HAS LOST ITS WAY”

Written on: 06/04/2012

It was meant to be a show about homes, new ideas, innovations, design but there was little of that. It was a glorified market selling things that were little to do with the home. For example a teeth whitening stall? another selling trainers, sweets, scarfs, animal skins? clothes, tarot card reading? hair brushes, lots of hand cream and beauty products. We appreciate you taking the time to post your comments. Unfortunately as organisers of the exhibition we cannot control who visits the show. Independent research carried out with visitors at the show actually has the average age of visitors at 44. Research from the previous year was an average age of 41!

There literally was nothing innovative and I too am so pleased I downloaded free tickets off of Martins Money Tips. Had I have paid for a ticket I would have complained so strongly and insisted on getting my money back. We are in a recession, god knows what you charged the stall holders who are only paying for the venue's good name but please, Organisers, vet the stall... (read more)

Dear Debi
Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. I wonder if your comment about being in a recession is a reflection of the perceived lack of innovation this year, I hope not. We did have the whole house of the future at the show. There were also many innovations and new gadgets and these were spread through each of the sectors and not all in one place perhaps this is why they were not immediately obvious. We will make sure we highlight these for future shows. Thank you.

“The show is a joke and a scam; we used to do the show...”

Written on: 20/03/2011

The show is a joke and a scam; we used to do the show when the Daily Mail Group ran the show. Last year media 10 took over and ruined the show, and on top of it has made special deals with companies to make them sole suppliers to the show. It looks like 2 or 3 companies but in fact only one.
BUYERS BEWARE!!!

I know this to be true for the hot tubs being sold (scammed) and I am sure it will be the same for some of the other big ticket items

If you bought under pressure at the show you have... (read more)

Sorry to hear you think the show is a joke and a scam. The show actually won an award last year for the Best Consumer Show. We also had over a quarter of a million visitors. If you could supply more detail as to how exactly it was ruined we will attempt to improve these areas for you in future.
We do have sponsorship deals with a number of companies if that is what you mean by special deals. The company selling hot tubs is definitely not a scam! We do try and get a cross section of companies exhibiting within the different sections of the show and not to overload the areas with lots of companies selling the same products. All of this is our approach to give the best visitor experience and offer the best potential for exhibitors to make sales.
We hope no visitors bought anything under pressure at the show, I have faith that the British public are smart enough to know what they are buying and if anyone has any evidence or experience of pressure selling at the show please contact us and we will make sure we deal with it in the strictest manner.
Thank you for posting your comments.

We're exhibiting at The Ideal Home Show 2011 and rather than boosting our business profile and profits we're facing the serious possibility of filing for bankruptcy at the end of the show.

We were promised an affluent ABC1 audience with an average age of 41 but the shopping floor is basically tat being sold to pensioners. The only companies making any profit are 'Del Boys' selling cleaning cloths and tacky jewellry.

We were sold a dream but the show is bringing many of us to our knees.... (read more)

We are genuinely sorry to hear this. The audience you were sold was based on the independent visitor research profile carried out at the show the previous year.
Perhaps you could contact Media 10 directly so we could discuss what went wrong for you. What products were you exhibiting? How were they displayed? Who did you have manning the stand? Would they have benefitted from exhibition sales training from us as organisers?
Please do contact me through review centre so we can see how we might help.

I found this review not helpful because..as a purveyor of "tacky jewellery" for 14 years at the ideal home maybe this person needs to reconsider there product range

We are also a exhibitor at the show with quality art and jewellery and have done this show for 7 years. We agree that it is now just a glorified market with no quality punters, only ones that come for the freebies.

I'd agree with everyone else on here. I went with my sister and mum and wanted to get decorating ideas. I came away with none. Unbearably overcrowded. Full of rubbish stalls that weren't relevant to an "ideal home", including ideal woman and the food area. Won't be going again and glad I didn't pay for my ticket. (read more)

Last time I went to this show (many years ago) there was not enough time to see everything in one day. This time I arrived about 11am and had seen it all by 2pm so had 4 hours to kill before the coach pickup.

Was looking for ideas/inspiration for decorating and equipping a new kitchen. What a waste of time!! Adjustable beds/chairs, hot tubs, expensive garden gazebos, sofas, chandeliers and a lot of tat and the usual boring gadgets that you can see any day on the TV shopping channels. ... (read more)

We went to the ideal home show for the first time after a four year break, we vowed after our last visit we would never go again, but having read that it had undergone a serious revamp, thought we would give it another go, but what a mistake i could have got more ideas from walking around my local shopping centre and had more fun, apart from the Nintendo stand, no one showed any interest in finding out if were interested in there products, the one highlight of the show was the talk by... Written on: 04/04/2010

As with most other people I wasn't particularly enamoured by the large numbers, particularly upstairs. The Show homes were very small and what's with the 1940's pre-fab exterior finishes ?

Loads of tat for sale, in fairness lots of people buying it so who am I to judge. 1 or 2 genuinely interesting specialist exhibitors from whom you could glean info or see interesting products. Spent an informative 20 minutes with a chap getting info on cctv cameras and recorders which we are thinking of... (read more)

Written on: 03/04/2010

We were glad we had complimentary tickets as would have felt thouroughly miserable if we'd paid to go into the Ideal Home Show. I expected something swish, spectacular and full of new innovative gadgets, luxury products and things I would possibly want to buy.
I was horrified at how much plastic was been binned; recycling!!
It was like being at our local market but with stall holders who were not as friendly. Couldn't hear the chefs so pointless sitting around to watch. Sorry but no Wow... (read more)
