I have owned this mouse for about 3-4 years, never have had a serious with it. It fits my hand perfectly and is easy to use. I have always disliked having a lot of buttons on my mouse, I get lost in figuring out the binds. This mouse has simple button structure, as well as enough buttons to do a fantastic job. I am a heavy gamer, I use it every single day. Only problem I have ever had with it is it takes a lot of attention to clean. Due to the surface you can really feel when it gets dirty, so it requires a good scrub down, sometimes with a toothpick every once in awhile. My brothers and sisters have dropped it, it has been spilled on, and power shut off randomly, still working as good as when it came out of the box. I love that I can speed/slow down the cursor with the two buttons on top, makes it easier for when I am switching games. Over all a good mouse, if I ever have to get a new mouse, I will get the same one.

I have owned a Logitech MX500 Optical for a few years now and have had no problems. Nothing has worn out (including the teflon pads) and functionality has remained a constant.
The shape is ideal for use as long as you use your right hand (I am left handed but still use my right for the mouse). Left handers need not apply but that's why is works so well, it is sculpted to the right hand.
The programmable buttons are a boon. The most useful for surfing are the backwards and forwards buttons which you control with your thumb. These are second nature now and I miss them when using someone elses PC. The other buttons are less useful but handy for infrequent but necessary tasks.
If you intend to use the programmable buttons in-game, beware. The setup can take a while as the Logitech software is comprehensive but sometimes a little obsure. I used to use the mouse for Counterstrike but when I upgraded to CS:Source the (additional) buttons stopped working. I didn't bother resolving the issue for a while but did get them working after a little effort. It was a little frustrating.
As I've already said, the mouse has been around a while and there are alternatives (the updated MX518 springs to mind) including wireless alternatives i.e. the MX700 which is great if heavier and the MX1000 which is super quick but requires (supplied) battery changes every couple of hours. However, for general use at work or home (I have one for each), this is a solid buy for less than £30.

The Logitech MX500 Optical is an excellent addition to your computer. It looks great, it's optical ( which means, NO MORE BALLS! ), it is very easy to use.
The installation was simple and it lets you access the mouse's extra features ( such as an alt+tab menu, Forward and Back buttons ).
The whole sides of the mouse is coated in rubber, making it feel nice and smooth and get a good grip.
This mouse also comes with a PS2 adapter which is what I use. It has the standard mouse plug on it too.
I love this mouse, it's a little pricy but it's worth it in the end.

Its not a real ergonomic right handed mouse....its only halfway there...it is also tiring to use....
