My sister signed up to this site thinking she would get free ringtones. Her credit throughout the coming months evaporated within no time. We called up vodafone to find out how this was happening despite her hardly using the phone. They said they could not tell us how this happened but if we bought a 24 month contract we would pay no more than £15/month and the problem would be solved.
Our first bill amounted to £293 after many calls to Vodafone we discovered this bill was entirely due to...

BOLTBLUE hmmmmmmmmmm I wouldnt touch them with a badge pole. They have a very deceptive way of taking people's money without them knowing. REFUND is not in their VOCABULARY either.
they stiched me for a £15.00. chased them for months on end for refund with no joy.
people please be extra vigilant because there are similar web sites around.

I've spent the last 2 months e-mailing Boltblue to try and get a refund...I (stupidly) entered my mobile number into the opening page as I simply wanted to have a look at the web site. Subsequently received text message after text message - leading to £18 being taken from my mobile phone bill. I text STOP the following day and contacted Boltblue to explain the situation and ask if they'd be so kind as to give a refund given that I hadn't received any service or product and only 'subscribed'... I searched for 'free download' for a family member, and the website advertised free 1st download if mobile number entered. I did this, and within 30 seconds received message after message deducting money from the phone. £9 in total, and will continue to do so until you text STOP to that number. totally not happy. They haven't responded to my complaints or requests for a refund & just keep quoting their T&C's which were on the page. Bad company. Bad Service. (read more)

My daughter entered her number into the site which doesn't warn you that this amounts to signing up. Since then she has received numerous unsolicited texts, adding £15 to her bill in September and £30 in October. She is 14 and had no idea what she was signing up to - why would she? I am not happy with this, therefore do not recommend boltblue.com. (read more)

i like that you can send stuff to your mates and not just yourself, it's modern way of sending someone a birthday card (you don't even have to bother to write it). I'm definitely gonna use boltblue again and would recommend it. One of my mates uses them for emails for his business and says it's great. (read more)

It seemed to take lots of my credit away when I had just bought my new phone so now if I put £10 on it within 2 days without me using it I am left with 18p it seems... its stupid and I searched for free ringtones it never said anything about it being £4.50 a week as far as I am aware?! (read more)

Like others, I Googled for a free ringtone, and upon entering my number was charged £15 to my account as a PAYG balance to use. They did text me a number: 08700209312 which is their help line. The operator answered the call quickly, was very courteous, but I did not yet received a refund. (read more)

Just googled for ring tone and entered my mobile no. in Bluebolt - before I knew it they sent me about 8 texts telling me I had an account with them - I only wanted to look at some ringtones! I finally text to stop to them but on my next phone bill they had taken £15.00 from my account as far as I am concerned. Tried emailing them but have had no response so far. Therefore I do not recommend Bolt Blue. (read more)

Went to look for free ringtones on Google and there was Boltblue so I got to their site and ok, the ringtone was free but only if you pay £15 but the £15 you pay for gives you so much to use. You can send texts from your computer to other mobiles and it works out a lot cheaper. Got my first ringtone for free and received it within seconds. I was even able to use my balance of £15 to send stuff to friends.
Just think it's great that you can send texts to other mobiles and even abroad plus...

Promotional website (you are taken to when googling for free ringtones) is legal but not in the spirit of the law. It is awful and will cost you £15. Does not say on this page ringtones are not by original artist - by the time you find out it is too late! (read more)

I used Bolt Blue not too long ago and all I did was download what I thought was a free "Spider Pig" Ringtone. I recieved a text to download it onto my phone, did so, then recieved 8 texts saying Media Message you nee to top up to recieve, I has 2 pound on my mobile, however I eventually did top up with £10 and it immediatly all went of the phone. Therefore due to my experiences I do not recommend Bol Blue. (read more)

I had received a 'promotional' text message upon receipt of a new phone and thought it was part of the initial set up of the phone until I got my bill!! I tried to use all of their features to send cards and SMS overseas to USA & Ireland (their site says you can). I couldn't even send one to Australia! They take your money and then make you spend it .. without delivering. If you try to call the call centre you won't ever get to have a call returned or speak to a supervisor. They'll even try to tell you they don't know the name of the supervisor.
This company is bad. Email every teenager you know and make sure they never get sucked in by them.

Bolt Blue took $30 credit out of my daughters mobile phone account on the 26th June, for a subscription she has not subscribed to. I have cancelled the subscription, but they still send her SMS messages, which cost her. I want it to stop, as this was done without consent from her. She is 11 years old, and she has also not had parents permission at any stage. I will chase Bolt Blue until they deposit the credit straight back onto her mobile account, and I won't accept a cheque. I've had the same problem. I entered my number onto the website to receive one free download as advertised, and suddenly credit disappeared from my phone, without notification. When i tried to download from the site i was informed that my phone was incompatible. Basically, credit was deducted without any service being provided to me. I rang their premium number and got through to a recording which gave me an e-mail address. I still haven't received a response. I'll be contacting consumer affairs on this matter.
