Good Points: Friendly people, restaurants, bars and culture are good. Plenty to see and do. Loads of taxis. Happening city.
Bad Points: Much bigger than York/Stratford/Chester and tram system not yet in place, so car or taxis essential if staying a few days.
General comments: Being from Newcastle, we found Liverpool to be so much more than we expected given its poor media image of a decade ago. Genuinely nice people, no crime that we've seen, and so many places to visit.
The city is a bit of a forest of cranes, so make sure your hotel isn't next to a building site!
We'd recommend it (we bought a place there), and have taken many friends from this neck of the woods who love it. Some excellent restaurants of many styles - try the Russian one for a real experience.
